Wow. Simply Wow
I first heard of this book in a review in Sports Car International magazine. As a dedicated Alfisti, I had to check it out. I was debating between the ($) printed version, or the ($) CD version. Needless to say, the CD version won. I was a little apprehensive about a "book on computer", but the authors did an amazing job. Basically, the navigation is through Powerpoint, so it's really easy to learn, once you figure out where exactly to click. Besides that, the sound and video clips make the CD worth it 10 times over. I couldn't believe some of the video, the blueprints, and such that were on the multimedia presentation. I would highly recommend this to anyone with an interest in pre-war GP racing, or pre-war Italian autos.

The Authoritative Work on the Subject
Buy this and Simon Moore's new book and you will have the best works written on Alfa Romeo since Griffith Borgesson's "Alfa Romeo Tradition" many years ago. Authoritatively written and including many photos previously never published,it is a highly entertaining read.

Very informative, but lacking some rather notable models
This book offers a fairly detailed history of several notable models in the history of Alfa Romeo. However, I was kind of disappointed on the choice of vehicles reviewed, and felt that certain models, such at the 8C2900 Spider by Touring, Guilia GTV, Alfasud, and the late model 164 should have been given consideration, considering their inpact on the marque as a whole. Overall, though, an entertaining and enjoyable read.

The ultimate coffee-table Alfa book!
Greggio and Bacchi have assembled, photographed and praised 33 timelessly beautiful and important Alfas. Why 33? Alfisti will know why, and it's that sort of a book. On each car expect a chapter on it's origins, significance in the history of Alfa, basic information on its mechanicals and above all a discussion on its styling. The book is full of fascinating information - who made the bodywork for the T33 Stradale (there's that number again), how did the styling for the Montreal change from the Expo concept into the production model?

Time and time again I go back to this book not for any 'hard' information but just to dream a little over exotic Alfas that I'll probably never own, or to kick myself as to why I ever sold some of the others. Highly recommended.

The Spirit of Racing?
This is a beautiful and carefully prepared book. That said, I was disappointed by the preoccupation with racing. The title and subtitle don't adequately warn you that the author knows the name of every race car driver ever associated with Alfa. Individual races are given longer descriptions than entire models of passenger cars. If you want to learn the racing history of Alfa, this is the book for you.

Pretty comprehensive - nicely presented
While it's tough to find one title that says it all - this one does pretty well. If you're just curious about the history of Alfa Romeo, or a fanatic of the marque, as I am, I think you'll find this thoroughly interesting and fulfilling as a historical account. I could go on and on about how fabulous these cars are to drive, but alas, this is a review for a book - and a great one at that: great photos, well-researced text, and an informed spin.

Great Book
Goes into great detail about the history of Alfa Romeo and has lots of pictures.Mentions probably all models and has pictures of most. I only wish some of the pictures were in color.

How to Power Tune Alfa Romeo Twin-Cam Engines for Road & Track (Speedpro Series)
Published in Paperback by Motorbooks International (April, 1995)
Author: Jim Kartalamakis
Amazon base price: $24.95
Average review score:

Good detail, but weak theory
There is a lot of useful information in this book, mainly in details of engine buildup. I built an Alfa engine, and found useful tips and reminders about Alfa pecularities. But the author's comments regarding four-valve vs. two-valve engines are wrong, his theory is flawed, and there are some omissions that would have been helpful. There are no pipe diameters given, and some missing lengths on exhaust systems, for example. But the information in the book is worth the reasonable purchase cost. The binding is a bit shaky - some pages are loose in mine after little use.

Good book for power tuning, useless for the less ambitious.
The book explains quite a lot, but there are some areas in which the book seriously lacks. For instance it fails to identify the differences in the cylinderhead that comes from a cable or piston driven gas pedal, and it actually suggests buying a whole new engine so it is exactly like the one in the book, so you can tune it. Might be good for the cash-loaded reader, but not for the price-aware tuner.

An excellent technical with practical, precise instruction
I found the book an excellent source of practical information. Step-by-step instructions follow every move to rebuilding a powerful and reliable Alfa Romeo engine. There are also many hints on other topics such as handling, turbocharging and brakes.

A Must Have For GT Owners!
This is not your generic ALFA coffee-table book. I would highly recommend it to all GT owners and those considering buying one. It includes pertinent information about each of the Bertone 105 coupes, extensive coverage of their racing history and track record as well as practical advise for today's owner. Such as buying and selling, restoration, cutaways and detail drawings, tons of photos, specialist listings, roadtests and much more. I found the book well worth the value. I wouldn't say that it is a stand alone, but like the majority of ALFA books, cross-referencing is the key.

Illustrated Alfa Romeo Buyer's Guide (Motorbooks International Illustrated Buyer's Guide Series)
Published in Paperback by Motorbooks International (November, 1992)
Author: Joe Benson
Amazon base price: $17.95
Used price: $11.88
Average review score:

Fairly informative, but unstructured.
Although written for the prospective buyer of an Alfa, this book is difficult to follow. It does not adhere to chronology or any other logical structure, and it does little to decipher the convoluted model-variations schema that Alfa Romeo uses to identify its products. One major flaw: in most instances, it does not identify photographs by model year. A disappointment.

General info on all different models
This book has definitely shed light all the different models that Alfa Romeo has put out, especially the Guilias and GTVs, which I am most interested in. Its not perfect, I couldn't find every answer I was looking for. For example it gives you identification numbers, but not where to find them. More info on how what to look for when buying a car would be great too. It is definitely worth buying though, especially someone new to the marque.

I Should Have Started Here
This should be *the* starting point for anyone looking to trace the postwar lineage of the marque. I finally understand the difference between 750 and 101 Giuliettas, why they're moderately interchangable, what changed, etc. 'Guilia' and '105' are partially synomymous? I had no idea. Also, I now know which ancestor to blame for the annoying chasis shimmy in my '91 Spider (one of the early Duettos).

I can't emphasize enough how helpful this book is in making sense of the various production and specialty Alfa models produced over the last 50 years. I'm definitely in no position to attest to it's accuracy and, as another reviewer noted, it's organization is somewhat confusing, but this is greatly offset by my newfound knowledge of the line as a whole.

I'd recommend reading this book before any other, including the Braden Bible, when diving into Alfa history.
