A very good book about a great car

Alfa Romeo - The Legend Revived
This is not a review since, as the author, it would hardly be proper for me to review my own title. However, it is an advice that the book is not, repeat not, out of print and is a Dalton Watson Fine Books title (Dalton Watson is located at P.O.Box 2, Belton, Loughborough, Leicestershire LE12 9UW, England) and the Sterling cover price is £39.95 (thirty nine pounds and ninety nine pence). Hope you find this useful, Amazon. Pat Braden of the Alfa Romeo Owners Club (US) reviewed this book in 1989 and rated it as one of the only two Alfa Romeo books he would ever need - it and the Peter Hull/Roy Slater book. He considered it a five-star book, while the Australian Alfa Romeo Club rated it around four star and also recommended it highly.

Other titles available by this same author, published by Dalton Watson and not listed by Amazon include:- As Old As The Industry - Riley (1982 - 504pp - winner 1983 SAH Cugnot Award - price £39.95) Sporting Rileys - The Forgotten Champions - (1988 - 288pp - winner SAH Award of Distinction - price £24.95)

The history of the legend!
This book describes the history of Alfa Romeo and all the cars and model from the begining of the century 'till the early 90's models as the 164 and 155. Very good for the one who wants to know the history of the legend!

GREAT PICTURES, SLANTED NARRATIVE
Excellent pictures and decent read but Hodges clearly dislikes the duetto spider.

Alfazioso
I red this book, very nice!I am author of Alfazioso, I am very happy that my book has been very appreciated in europe! I hope that the U.S Alfa's enthusiasts will be happy to read it. Arrivederci

Great pictures, good narrative, what else do you want?
Contains 120 foto', 60 in color. 80 pages, production numbers, technical details, etc. Because of the wide range of models it cannot be the ultimate bible in 80 pages, but considdering the price, it is very well spent money. Your partner will hate you for buying it!

Owners Bible For Spica
A nice read with lots of history and tidbits, however, not very useful if you are looking to make repairs or get information on post 1980 Alfa Romeos. If you have a Spica injection system this book is probably a must. I did appreciate the history and commentary. I don't think it quite rates the title "Alfa Romeo Owners Bible" as there are a few psalms missing.

Highly recommended work by an authority on the topic.
An excellent work by a well-known authority Pat Braden whose previous efforts include books on Abarth, Ferrari (Daytonas), and Weber. He is currently a regular columnist for the Alfa Owner, publication of the Alfa Romeo Owners Club, and the Sports Car Market Magazine.

No single work could possibly cover all the mechanical aspects of post war four cylinder Alfa Romeos (contrary to the previous posting's allusion) and neither does this. For that one can purchase one of the many shop manual reprints available from several independent Alfa parts suppliers. On the otherhand, Pat's work is an excellent (and interesting) overview of the subject written in the friendly conversational tone he is known. So buy a copy, sit in your favorite chair or under your favorite car, and be entertained.....

Good Introduction
For those who have a decent understanding of how cars mechanicals are laid out, but who know nothing about Alfa in particular, this book is an EXCELLENT resource. Pat covers all the unique features of the Alfa engines in an interesting and engaging style of writing. The focus is slanted much more toward the 4 cylinder cars, but if you own a V6 you will find information here which is also very useful. Pat says right in the beginning of the book that you should also have a shop manual handy and that he will not repeat that information here. If you didn't read the introduction, as some people here appear not to have done, you would not know this. This is why you should read the introduction: it tells you what to expect from the book. If you are new to Alfa and you want to get your hands dirty, this is an excellent reference. Pat even gives good strategies for the hobbyist to work on things without the special Alfa tools required in some places. The hobbyist is also warned about which parts are dangerous, difficult to work on properly, or should be taken to a skilled shop for repair. He will not steer you wrong. All-in-all this is a fine work on the subject!

Great overview of truly classic car
This was the perfect summary of one of Alfa's great products. A little technical for the novice, but perfect for the afficionato. It was so well written, I have ordered it for the other mechanics in my women's support group.

Very good coverage of the pre-war racing efforts, not so good when it comes to road cars and the post-war era. Only monochrome photographs, and not many of them.

OK book, but it's a UK publication w/ little detailed info
I bought this book hoping for a detailed, year by year comparison of each and every year Spider. What it is, in effect, is a vague story of the Spiders. It has its good points but lacks very much the precise detail Alfa owners need. Not enough pictures in color. The title is misleading, should be called "A Vague History of the Spider". Not a good purchase...

Better for English/European readers
Good information, well written, great pictures, but the book is from the U.K. market. Nearly half of the book is dedicated to the newest Spider, which is not available in the U.S.

If you're looking for information leading to purchasing a spider, this may not be the best book. If you just want good reading on Alfas, then it's a good buy.

Essentially an under-sized coffee table book.
Essentially an under-sized coffee table book whose content, contrary to the title, spends an equal amount of time on coupes. The majority of text is taken up by an obligatory history in the beginning and is largely made up of picture bylines. Disappointing.

Nothing Special
Hybrid hardbound coffee table book combining the lesser aspects of Joe Benson's "Buyer's Guide" and the late Osprey/Octopus Great Marques Alfa picture book edition of the series. Why bother....
