The Ashdale Cowboy in life & legend!!
I love this book on The American Cowboy in Life & Legend by author Bart McDowell & Photography by William Albert Allard.

It has color photos in this book & I love those color photos.

But manager Lewis Watton's notes, "My family doesn't cotton much to that."

I like the photos of a cowboy roping a calf & I think they are beautiful photos & drawings of an american cowboy in his life & legend.

This is a great book & it has rodeo in it.

It had a picture of a world champion team steer roper Joe Glenn waiting for his turn to rope a steer & he had his arms folded & smoked a cigar & threw it away after he smoked & he would rope the steer's horns & carry his second rope but when a cowboy catches a steer's horns, he let's the rope slip out of his hands & the steer runs away & this is called team steer roping but in steer roping he must rope the steer's horns, tie his rope to the horn, trip the steer over with his rope, leap from his horse & tie the feat.

When in team-steer roping, you don't use a piggin' string you carry a second rope incase you miss.

This is funny of saying The Ashdale Cowboy in life & legend!! This is silly.

In calf roping at a rodeo, the cowboy must chase the calf on horseback, rope the calf, leap from his horse & tie the calve's three legs with a piggin' string he keeps in his mouth.
The calf must stay tied for 5 seconds.

I loved this book & this is a great book & I loved it!!!!!!!!!

Interservice Rivalry and DoD Decisionmaking
Ken Allard provides an insightful analysis of the warfighting philosophies underlying each of the military services and the different priorities which result. A former U.S. Army Colonel and a professor at Georgetown University, Allard provides a superlative look at the influence of Mahan, Clausewitz and Mitchell and their impact on the priorites, strategies and budgets of the navy, army and air force. Oftentimes, these diferences are the root of interservice rivalries and divergent decsionmaking. Allard's framework provides great explanatory power in understanding military missteps and decisionmaking in many instances such as the Iran hostage rescue attempt, the invasion of Grenada and the first attempt to build a joint services fighter. He argues that one effective way to mitigate the ill effects of interservice differences is mandatory joint duty for officers and giving operational and weapons procurement decisionmaking to joint commands instead of individual services. A must read for those in the defense community.

The moral of "people labels"
As a child, I remember reading Harry Allard and James Marshall's "It's So Nice to Have a Wolf Around the House," and feeling a deep sympathy for the main character, Cuthbert Q. Divine. All children can learn from this lovely children's tale that teaches the danger of quick assumptions. Although Cuthbert is a fugitive from the law, it is obvious that this is not the life he wants. Despite all of the stereotypes about wolves, Cuthbert truly loves the Old Man and his pets with no ulterior motive involved--"all he wanted to do was make the old man and his three pets happy." In fact, the Old man and his pets seem happier than ever when Cuthbert is around, as he takes care of all the chores while, at the same time, making the house a funloving place to live in. Cuthbert makes fancy desserts and organizes costume parties. When the Old Man discovers that Cuthbert is actually a wolf disguised as a the German Shepard he hired as his "charming companion", he feels betrayed and frightened. However, upon this confrontation, it is Cuthbert who is "pale and shaking." In fact, when faced with his sordid past, Cuthbert faints. In a sorrow-evoking mini-monologue, Cuthbert reveals that he's always wanted to be good but no one expected him to be, as he was a wolf. This is representative of many children today who feel as if they have a "label." In many schools, there is a "bully" who it seems never does anything kind or good. In so many fairy tales, wolves are depicted as a wholly evil and manipulative species. So, by Cuthbert breaking free of the stereotype his race of creatures elicits, a moral shines through for our children: Always be who you want to be, not who people think you are.

Mr. Allard continues to add insight to the sales process
In his second book Mr. Allard adds clarity to his sales principles through the hands on selling experiences he and his associates have had.

The elimination of sales myths like, "The customer is always right," "I don't have any money," or "the customers won't buy that product in this area" are a samplings of the insightfull anedotes in store for you as you study this book. Most sales books get read once but Mr.Allard's are filled with time tested principles that need to be studied and practiced in order to overcome the sales errors taught by so many.

Mr.Allard appears to be ahead of his time as a leader in the paradigm shift in motivational material from attitude adjustment to principle based living and selling.

Shawshank's Redemption: Another level...
Rita Haywood And The Shawshank's Redemption is a very stereotyped book. But that is good, because when you read it you think you can guess the ending. It is true in some way. The ending is as many experienced readers may guess. But it displays it in such an amazing twist, that you are overwhelmed. It surprises you. But let's focus in the history: Andy Dufresne Is a banker who is thrown to jail for murdering his wife and her lover. But he didn't do it. Or at least that's what he says. There, he witnesses corruption and violence, not only in teh con's, but also in the Warden and guards. But in his heart, he raises hope, as the best thing of good things. I personally felt identified with the main character, imprisioned in a world i don't belogn to. It is a great book, everyone shoulde take a glance at it.

Honest photos that inspire photographers to go an extra mile
The great thing about this photo book is that Allard provides you with a continous dialogue along with the photos about how he got the shots, what was going on, etc. As an amateur photographer, I was extremely inspired by "The Photographic Essay" to continue my photographic exploits with renewed vigor.

The pages of "The Photographic Essay" come alive with photos from Mississippi, the Basques, Out West, Oaxaca, Mexico, Peru, and Australia. Allard focuses on human emotion and tends to go for photos that other photographers wouldn't attempt--ones where lighting conditions are poor and in situations that others wouldn't get into like Allard does. The result is a rich, vibrant, honest mood.

I would recommend this book to anybody interested in photography, National Geographic magazine, or cultural studies.
