Not the Typical Tale
The illustrations for the version of Jack and the Beanstalk are wonderful, however, the text is from a 1807 version and is difficult to read easily. This is compounded by the fact that it is in rhyme so some of the words/grammer are really strange to keep the rhyme pattern.

Great Work!
This is a wonderful approach to the fairy tale stories. I've read several of Mrs. Capps-Burgess books and all of them are excellent! They make extra special gifts for the young reader.

A great new tale not of the fairy kind, but Faith.
Mrs. Capps-Burgess, the daughter of famed Arkansan Bible Teacher and farmer Charles Capps, does an extrodinary job of transplacing the traditional Fairy tales into Faith tales. A former reviewer has sent back her copy and declared that she, the reader, is religious. Herein lies the reason she misunderstands Mrs. Burgess. Mrs. Burgess is not religious, but rather maintains a relationship with Jesus Christ. It would be a mystery as to why Mrs. Burgess has written this new "twist" were it not for a fact that millions have stepped aside from religion and moved ahead toward this relationship building class for their children with Jesus Christ. In my opinion, only those parents who have strong Bible-believing faith, would approve of the works of Beverly Capps Burgess. Those who claim to be religious should probably continue to hold to traditional fairy tales.

ignore the above review
Although Dorfman's views of the years of dictatorship are driven as much by emotion and opposition as they are by fact, his book about the Pinochet regime and the subsequent human rights trial serves as an interesting document to the chilean experience of dictatorship.
The true extent of the horrors that occured in Chile may never be fully known but Dorfman's book about his experience of the dictatorship and his emotions as a Chilean is an essential document to the Chilean healing process.

Some of the passages are extremely well written and the end of the book in particular raises some intersting questions.
There are without question finer books concerning the period, but this is the most emotional work available and Dorfman's lament for Chile is at times very powerful.

Exorcising Terror: The incredible unending trial of Augusto
This book is basic to understand from a personal perspective how the chilean people suffered under this animal regime. It shows how all bullies, those who get theirs kicks hurting other human beings become pathetic cowards when they are asked to pay for their acts.

A good synopsis of the trial of Pinochet
One should keep in mind that this is a personal and political view of the Pinochet case. The book is good in the fact that it is a personal account of a man who had friends who are among the disapeared of Chile. If you are interested in a personal account than by this book, however if you are interested in an acccount of Pinochet policies by a book exclusivly about his regime.

Este libro es complicadisimo de entender y si no esta dispuesto a dedicar mucho tiempo a leer y ha entender un libro de tanta complexidad y enredo no se lo recomiendo a nadie.

This book makes you think about American values and culture.
This is a very insightful book today as much as it was when it was first published in the late 19th century. It really is a work of art as much as a statement of our image to others. Everyone should have to read this book as they question the reality that sculpted their identity. The only thing that is missing is more information on Latin American values and shortcomings.

NOT FOR THE DEADICATED
Definitely not a book for the hardcore--or even casual--Deadhead. Poorly researched, seemingly slapped together, and terribly written, the book gets one star for the photographs which are pretty good (though they're available much larger from dozens of other sources). Full of dreadful misinformation--don't waste your four dollars!

A nice quick read to put on your desk,
When I got this book in the mail I opened the package and knew why it was not real expensive. It is about the size of a cassete tape box and is a well-made hardback with a dustcover. It is a nice quick colorful tribute that celebrates Jerry Garcia. Something that any Garcia fan would really like. It is actually quite a bargain now that I think about it.

This book provided useful information for me to learn about my sign. I have read other books that have given more information, but this one was still well written.

Cute as a Gems
Quite a surprise when this little Gem came to my door. The picture on the page really is just about life size for this cute little book. Yes it is hardcover, and is full of beautiful photographs of Gems. This little treasure is a perfect addition to baskets of goodies for friends and relatives at holidays, house warmings, wedding showers, et al.

A Book for An Irishman's Vestpocket
"The Irish" is a small book, both in the number and size of the pages. The pages usually alternate between illustrations or pictures and a short verbal content. Each writing provides a brief introduction to things Irish.

Some of the entries are factual, such as Important Dates, Geography, Symbols of Ireland, the American Connection and Famous Irish Artists. Other entries provide insights into aspects of Irish culture, lighted by Irish sayings, some witty, some profoundly moving.

While not really rising to the level of a book, this tome is an entertaining sampling of things Irish.

Good, but not quite enough
I did enjoy this book somewhat because I love Michael Jordan. But it didn't really connect the reader and Michael Jordan like I good book should. Not enough details I guess, or just too many little ones. But I think this is an enjoyable book for a younger person.

Waste of money
It can be read in less than 5 minutes. If you enjoy proverbs, don't expect much from this book

This IS a nifty little book...
Hey folks...keep it in perspective. This is a miniature book and is MEANT to be read in about 5 or 10 minutes. That's it's charm! It's like buying a greeting card for someone---only better. The book is well-bound, has beautiful ancient Chinese paintings, a thoughtful and relevant foreward by the author, and--yes--it does have a few thought-provoking proverbs to give you a little nudge in your thinking when you need it. Purse or glove-compartment; it's handy and makes a nifty tiny gift. Recommended.

I Happened To Love It!
I happened to find this little tiny book on a shelf in a store in San Diego. I looked at it and went, hmmmm... this looks interesting. I looked at it a little bit and was instantly fascinated. Thought I could have read the whole book in the store, I decided to buy it and read the rest later. So I did and it has not left me since. Though what is in the book may be just stupid little Chinese proverbs to some people, there is a depth to them that cannot be denied. They are basic principles for everyday life that we sometimes forget to listen to. It is an excellent little pocket book to carry around to consent to in times of need when you can just pull it out, and remember how simple life really is.

A Great Disappointment
This is not a scholarly work, and not truly a biography (although it does have an elementary review of personal details about Sharon). The presentation is a flat monotone with no attention to relative importance of events discussed. It's as if the authors had daily news bulletins spread out before them, and then give us a synopsis. There is no analysis of significance and import of the events, or background explanation of Israeli and Palestinian personalities, politics or issues. What commentary that is given is by way of quotations (or paraphrases) of recognized authorities in the field, and often this material is without source attribution. Unless the reader has some significant prior understanding of the Israeli/Palestinian situation, much of the book will be confusing and of low informative value.

a flawed book, but should be read
Ok so you bought the autobiography of Sharon and now you want the unbiased account. This book may be in order. The problem is that the book is 557 pages long(text). By page 184 you are at 1990. page 362 is already in 2001. This book makes the fatal mistake of focussing so heavily on the present, dedicating 100 pages to only a few years time when the first 100 pages covers more then 50 years. Is it possible that the current situation is worth so much text? I doubt it. Sharon has lived a life of action, serving in all of Isreals wars, the architect of victory in at least two of them. He is an amazing figure and this book focuses to much on the present, not realizing that daily events in ISreal today are just as important as they were in 1953 or 1976. If the book had dont justice to the other years it should be 5000 pages long. SOmething is fishy in denmark when it comes to this book and I would only recommend it as a history of the modern Sharon era, pick up the autobiography "warrior" to understand the rest of Sharons life.

Don't listen to the critics - their agendas are obvious
To truly understand the conflict that rages in the Middle East you have to first understand the players and no player is more complicated than Ariel Sharon. Known across the globe as a hawk and hard liner - Prime Minister Sharon began as a farmer in his often ostracized family and rose through the ranks in an undisciplined quasi-military before the formation of the Israeli Defense Forces ("IDF"). His tenure at the IDF was controversial and turbulent, but highly effective. Sharon entered politics after being forced out of the military and ultimately became the Prime Minister of Israel after the disappointing tenure of Ehud Barak. Sharon: Israel's Warrior-Politician captures the life of this most complicated man in a manner consistently balanced and fair. As a Zionist myself I am suspicious any time a group of academics gather to write about any member of Likud or other right leaning political group in Israel, but as I read this book, I was pleasantly surprised at just how balanced and fair the authors were. As debates rage over whether or not college students should read about Islam - one thing that should be added to every curriculum is a study of the man who has been instrumental at just about every twist and turn of Israeli history. From the first war in Israel to the current conflict - no figure captures the essence of Israel like Ariel Sharon and no book has ever captured the man behind the hawkish right leaning persona. A must read.
