If you're looking for an automotive repair manual in the spirit of a Chilton's or a Haynes manual, this is not the book for you. This is strictly a shop service manual, which means that it lists work flows, parts numbers, and tool numbers that are useful to experienced mechanics who have ALL the tools. Unfortunately, this appears to be the only repair manual that exists for the Quattro version of 84-87 Audi 4000 S and CS models. If you own one of the models covered in other manuals (non-quattro versions) you may want to buy that in addition to, or instead of this manual. Otherwise, as a shop repair manual, this book gets the job done and is complete.

I was hoping for a book that covered every model, including major model year changes with specifications for them. While the book does have some very good information I wanted more specifications for EVERY model & model year cars.

This manual is okay, but the pictures and diagrams leave something to be desired, and some details are wrong; being designated as for the North American models, but not matching up. I Have an Audi 4000s, and use this manual combined with the manual for the Audi 5000 to cover everything on my car.

I wasn't terribly impressed with this book. I have a 4000 quattro and it doesn't even cover the quattro version. It didn't have enough pictures/diagrams and left me guessing on many procedures. It is better than having no book and you won't find anything better for the price, but it just doesn't provide you with enough detail. More useful information can be found on the quattro list at coimbra.ans.net I guess I will have to spend the big bucks on the more complete and detailed Bently manual.

This was a great book that gave detailed instructions on my audi 4000 quattro, yes, i know that the quattro info is not listed in this book, but i didn't want to spend big bucks on a bently manual. But it still gives great info on how to service and work on the car. Great Book

I was forced to read this for a college course. It is harder to read than it needs to be, and the book could actually be half as long as it is. There have GOT to be better books than this one on the same subject.

This book is appropriate for an upper level philosophy seminar in the major, and will also be of interest to graduate students in political science and law. The debate between Audi and Wolterstorff is not really about the entire multifaceted topic of the "separation of church and state" in the United States (a lot of which concerns the scope of freedom of religious practice and strict limitations on public funding of religious causes). The debate is actually about a much more focused topic central to democratic theory: in a nation governed by a legitimate democratic process of law and policy formation through open debate and voting, what sort of considerations is it morally legitimate for citizens invoke in deciding what laws and policies to support, and appealing to others to share their views? (Thus the question is about moral norms of citizenship, not legal norms governing actual democratic processes). In Rawlsian lingo, this is a question about the content of "public reason." Audi believes citizens in a democracy ought not invoke religious beliefs, whereas Wolterstorff thinks such beliefs are on the same epistemic footing as all other considerations on which citizens must draw in making rational judgments about the common good of their society. Other authors who have contributed to this debate include Michael Perry, John Rawls, Phillip Quinn, and the authors featured in Paul Weithman's collection. The biggest drawback of all this literature, including this book, is that the interlocutors on both sides are unfamiliar with the growing body of work on the deliberative theory of democracy coming out of the republican tradition in jurisprudence and out of discourse ethics in continental philosophy. So they to not address the implications of deliberative models of democracy for the issue of appeal to religious convictions in political action.

This is the most miserable and overpriced manual ever seen. You do you serve service if not working on quarto to get Haynes one for 17.98 if you find one as was published only in U.K. or try as I did to get German one from factory on CD if you are German. It seems like Bentley people like to do drawings, but have no clue what magician procedure takes to replace steering rack on 80/90 without removing of engine, or try to fix numerous sensor problems with theirs master piece - you get more help on web for free. To summarize it look for help elsewhere- I guess this book is reason why Real Audi mechanic is so hard to come buy. I had once regular experienced mechanic working for me with that book and couldn't never figure out simple fuel mixture issue for two weeks - I took about 5 min. I had by the way picked up this " Piece" on my trip in California thrift store for 4.95 I guess somebody already had it with this one also . I writing this anonymous to protect freedom of speach - my credentials are only Dipl. Ing. and experince form Audi in Regensburg - but Bentley folks are I guess are the five stars in this region.

If you own an 80/90 this book is great to have in the trunk if anything "minor" goes wrong.i used mine to repair/replace a lock cylinder, broken window motor, temperature sensor,fog lights etc etc. Unlike these other reviewers, i find this book very helpful. The index is very detailed and straight forward.Alot of information is repeated within the text of the manual throughout different sections.One thing that it DOESN'T tell you ( that upset me)is how to replace the air filter...it just suggests taking it to your local dealer because it is "too complicated". I agree- it is too complicated but i just figured it out on my own. The diagrams are not tremendously helpful either, a little confusing, and not all the parts are identified within them. But all in all, this book is a great reference for general to minor repairs as well as identifying parts to re-order at your local foreign autopart. its especially useful for people who are not familiar with audi/vw engineering- as i wasn't before i bought the book.

I think many people are missing the point here. The words "Factory Repair Manual" on the cover should give you a hint. Bentley produced these manuals for trained technicians to use. This book is not going to hold your hand and talk you through a repair step by step. The book assumes the you have a basic understanding of the automobile. I have found this book to be a great resource many times.
