Engaging and enlightened; vibrant illustrations
This a neat tale of a kid, his friends and their pets. It has a positive message of affection, and the graphics and colors will hold your kids' interest after many readings. The text has a nice flow to it as well.

My children found the story and pictures very interesting.
Although the story of children losing their beloved pets may sound disheartening, Austin From Boston is a joy. Watching the children play with their pets brings back great childhood memories. Not only are you reminded of growing up with pets, but more importantly, growing up with friends. My children and I found ourselves drawn to the characters Sean and Katie. If you are looking for a good "bedtime" book, Austin From Boston comes highly recommended.

GREAT ACTION ADVENTURE!
If you want heroes galore - this one is for you. There is a movie written all over this book and the rest of the series. The author also writes other action books under the name Jack Buchannan, the series - M.I.A. Hunter! Another great action/adventure series.

Guns, War, violence and bloodshed
This book was entertaining. The plot left nothing to be desired. It was fast paced and action-packed. Loved every minute, and never wanted it to end.

EVERYBODY LISP NOW!
This is great for the car. However, by the second tape you will notice that everyone is lisping and then it gets funnier and funnier. How could they put a book on tape with a lisping lewinsky? It's a dream come true. Buy two copies and send one to a friend as a gift.

My favorite part was when Monica asked everyone to stop referring to her as Ms. lewinsky cause "I'm just 25." When she's told that for the rest of her life she was always be Ms. Lewinsky, she volunteers, "Not if I get married!"

In reality it's all sad, this brave woman has endured more than any of us will have to in a lifetime. She deserves everything that she can get. She's a true survivor. Viva Lewinsky!

WONDERFUL NARRATION OF THE TESTIMONY OF THE FAMOUS INTERN
These sassettes offer a very exciting and interesting intepretation of Ms. Lewinsky's testimony . The narration of Monica and the grand jurors had me listening to these tapes for 6 consecutive hours. I coukld not stop listening? I found myself playing these in the car continously. It eas the quickesyt 6 hours that ever went by! The in depth look into the biggest White House scandal is brought to life in this 4 cassette series. I listen to them over and over. A must for any history lover.

Want to keep in shape during pregnancy?
For those mothers-to-be who wish to keep in shape during pregnancy, Denise Austin will motivate you. This informative book presented with Denise's friendly enthusiasm is an excellent companion to her Pregnancy Plus Workout videotape. In Denise Austin's Ultimate Pregnancy Book, Denise presents exercises suited to each trimester of pregnancy, sample menu plans, recipes interspersed with pregnancy Q & A. She also includes a Shape Up After Baby chapter. I've sampled some of her recipes and am currently following her exercises. Whether or not you are a Denise Austin fan, you will find this book helpful and perhaps you too will find her enthusiam contagious.

Great read!!
This book got me through my first pregnancy and now that I'm in the beginning stages of my second pregnancy, I've already reread it. I was never a "fan" of Denise Austin and never used her workout tapes or watched her on TV, but I became a fan after reading this book. I am planning on buying her pregnancy workout video to compliment the book this time since I enjoyed her book during my first pregnancy. I by no mean am a fitness guru and haven't ever been in fantastic shape, but the excersizes in this book were easy to read and to follow. I enjoyed the recipes and also loved all the other information she throws in about pregnancy. I highly recommend!

FallenCity
This adventure SF details the strivings of two disparate bands of rebels on a previously decimated Earth's surface. A technolgy based group breaks out of an underground shelter, a sanctuary where the remnants of humankind survived the Decline. The breakout is bought about by the other group, part of a tribe that had survived the ecological catastrophe above ground. This band ventures down into the centuries old city, Sanctum, but is repelled by automen designed to keep sub levels clear of intrusion.
Greg Austin has kept this 200 page book at a good pace, it is well plotted and has some surprising twists and spontaneous humor throughout it. The conclusion leads to a sequel that sounds like it would be just as promising. Thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Novel Explores Homelessness, and Good & Evil
I found the novel's exploration of homelessness unusually interesting, especially the idea that the homeless in this country are our 'untouchables,' and that a kind of tough love is needed, along with enlightened social policies, to adequately address the huge problem. The novel is about the struggle between good and evil on two levels, personal and societal. On the personal level, a doctor's fall into homelessness, alcoholism and criminal behavior is chronicled, as well as his partial redemption through his efforts to help other addicts and homeless persons; then, his ultimate downfall. Those who loved him find solace in knowledge of the positive contribution he made to his community, and in their faith that despite the wrong choices he made in his life and the horrific crimes he committed, he will be forgiven by God. The story is interwoven with writings by and about Gandhi, showing his belief that only unconditional love and nonviolence could cure the societal cancer caused by the caste system and conflicts between India's religious groups. The author is a neurosurgeon who happens to be my brother, and I am proud of the way he has brought his medical, historical and philosophical knowledge together to write this novel. It is a very creative effort!

Gandhi Revisited:The Plight of the Untouchables
This book graphically portrays the sad lives of the
American homeless and how a respectable man escapes into
that lifestyle when caught up in the clutches of alcoholism
and how he attempts to conquer it for his fellow untouchables
but is eventually defeated by his alcoholic affliction. The exerpts from Gandhi's Autobiography are graphic in telling his
philosophy of passive resistence & what it can accomplish for
society similar to the preaching of Martin Luther King in this
Country. The plot is novel & written in excellent fashion!

Grand Canyon: Monument to Catastrophe

Creationist Geologist With Credentials Examines the G.C.
Anyone who has ever gazed down into the immensity of the Grand Canyon has surely asked himself, "HOW in the world did this ever happen!"

If the standard "millions and millions of years" explanation leaves you with questions, read this book.

If you want a thorough, intellectually satisfying survey of the Grand Canyon, and the theories of it's origin, this book is for you. If you liked Whitcomb and Morris's "The Genesis Flood", you will like this book.

A man who believes the Bible, knows geology, and has carefully studied the Grand Canyon presents his findings in a very readable, interesting, and well illustrated book aimed at the general reader.

A Whole New Way of Looking at the Earth and Its Past
Standard geology textbooks teach us that, while individual events may be rapid, geologic change (such as erosion) is very slow overall. Austin deftly dispenses with the straitjacket of uniformitarianism, and shows how the Grand Canyon could have been eroded rapidly. Instead of a little river acting over a lot of time, we had a large body of water (Floodwater and its remnants) acting over a short period of time.

A Splendid Country

Author: T. Austin Cumings

Collectible price: $21.18

A Tribute to the People of a Republic
Texas is indeed "A Splendid Country", and Cumings has provided any Texan, native, adopted, or wantabe, an excellent portrayal of the early development of Anglo Texas while resisting the urge to overly romanticize an oft-told story. He has faithfully interwoven historical events with the fictionalized account of one of the state's pioneer families and the adventures they encountered while helping settle the wilderness and gain hard won independence from Mexico. While the battle at the Alamo is generally recognized outside of Texas as the great battle for liberty, he has taken great care to document the Texas Revolution from its humble beginnings to its culmination at San Jacinto and General Santa Anna's surrender. As an historical account, A Splendid Country, holds up. As a well crafted adventure, it catches the reader's attention and maintains it throughout. Both devoted Texana buffs and those readers looking for an interesting saga of pioneer America will find what they are looking for in Cumings' first novel.

A Splendid Country - Texana at its finest
I began reading A Splendid Country because a friend wrote it. I finished reading it because I was taken in by the characters and the writing style. Tim's book thrusts you into early America and the character of the people who were brave enough to step into the unknown of the frontier. These were ordinary people living extraordinary adventures. As you read of their adventures, you think to yourself, "Yeah, it could have happened just like that." Tim sprinkles the story with people you have heard of ( Aaron Burr, Col. Travis and other heros of early Texas) and mythical characters like Prince Madoc. There are episodes of high adventure and the durdgery of day to day living at the edge of civilization. The style is fast paced and not over dramatized. If you like historical fiction, this is a must read.

A Work as Grand as the State of Texas
One never knows exactly what they are going to get when they embark upon the first work of an unknown author. Far more often than not, it is the first and last work of a well-meaning "wannabe." However, in Cumings' first effort, he has woven a spell-binding tale of the trials and tribulations of a courageous clan and those who touch and concern the family over the decades following their removal from the North to Texas. Not only is his historic background work factual and informative, but his beautifully written tales of adventure stir the imagination to the point where you feel like you are traveling the plains, rivers and woods with them. The characters are rich and precise and one is easily led to try to identify members of the Cumings family with those of his own clan. Unlike many writers of historic novels involving Texas, Cumings does not embellish facts or hide the truth in seeking a factual portrail of the era and allows the reader the opportunity to judge the grandeur of Texas on his own. We can only hope that Cumings has another work in the offing.

A book with many stories
This is the story of Abby's summer in Israel at an archealogical dig. This is also the story of Leah, one of the early Christians; the story of Hannah, an archealogist; and the story of Ari & Rachel, Hannah's daughter. These are women with brave love stories and historical elements that withstand the test of time.

Abby has just been rocked by the betrayal of her husband's infidelity. She tries to escape from it all by going to Israel. There she meets Hannah and Ari. But as in everything, not all is as it seems.

Ms. Austin weaves the historical stories throughout the narrative very well. The reader is pulled into every story. I found myself tearing up at various points because the stories were so moving.

This is a novel about forgiveness and the lesson that you can't run from your pain--you have to face it. And the characters in the story face their own pain and learn to live again.

A History lesson on forgiveness
Lynn Austin does a great job of blending the lives of Abby, Hannah, and Leah into a story of the power of hate and the even stronger power of forgiveness. She accomplishes this by putting you right into the lives of each of these women through a series of "flashbacks" throughout the story. At first this bothered me (I'm not a "dream sequence fan!") but as the book progressed I realized that it was the best way to tell each story. When you experience the hurt with them, you can also experience the joy and peace that forgiveness brings.

For people interested in history of the Holy Lands, this covers the Roman invasions to present day conflicts. The descriptions of the wars and the prejudice are accurate give insight that we don't get from the news. I learned a lot, after I stopped skimming those parts! They are important to help you know the characters - and how forgivess was hard for them and those they love.

An excellent choice for you who love historial fiction, as well as you romance-only readers. This books shows that everyone needs to be forgiven - and sometimes forgiving ourselves is hardest of all. A second wonderful book by Lynn Austin.

Life enriching
The story pulls you into the holy land and what it would actually be like to go on a dig. It has todays' people with todays' problems, and compares it to ancient times, and we see how similar each generation is. It explains how Jesus became the ulitmate sacrifice for all the world. I ended up falling in love with each of the characters. It has a wonderful ending.

Good but not great.
There's a lot of good information in this book but I would not recommend it as a reference.

First of all, it isn't totable: it's format makes it a clunker. It's 8 1/2 by 11" and its page format is such that the book could have been printed with half the paper. The added appendices are pretty useless considering the main A to Z section entries pretty much tell you exactly the same thing.

Second of all, the formatting is inconsistent; adding question to your inquiry. Did they make this entry as complete as they did that one?

I very much prefer Meletis/Jacobs' and Brinker's books to this one. For intuitiveness and extensive cross-referencing, Meletis/Jacobs' wins hands down.

A Book for Today's Health Consumer
The authors of this book have made a significant contribution to the resources available for today's health consumer. By providing this current, well-organized and useful "guide" they are helping those of us trying to protect or improve our own health, and those of us facilitating others in doing that, tremendously! Their research is thorough and and unbiased - I highly recommend it.

A "Must Have" Reference for Patients and Doctors.
The editors and authors of this HealthNotes publication have presented the most up-to-date information in an easy to read format without compromising scientific judgement. In the information world of alternative medicine, it is all to easy for conventional medical texts to react out of fear by recommending "extreme caution" for just about any prescription or possible nutrient/herbal interaction. "The A-Z Guide..." does a tremendous job of integrating insights of physicians form several different disciplines (the book is written by an MD, ND, and DC, et. al.), which provides the reader with a diverse and thorough scientific review of known and suspected interactions. I have personally found this book extremely helpful in the waiting room and on my desk as a quick refernce.
