It was pretty good actually!
I read this book and I thought it was gonna be stupid, like Stephanie goes to a dude ranch and she just learns to be like a cowgirl. She goes to New Mexico and meets a guy named Justin and she really likes him, then her dad says she can't see him anymore. So she has to sneak out to see him. And one night they kiss, and she like thinks she's in love...but then she has to go home, and all she can do is write to him (once in a while call him) This was a good book overall

This was a pretty good book!
Stephanie and her family take a trip to New Mexico and she meets a cute guy named Justin. She starts to like him--a lot. Then before she knows it, she is forbidden to see him and she has to sneak out to see him! Then she kisses him...and i will not tell the ending!

Old World Encounters: Cross-Cultural Contacts and Exchanges in Pre-Modern Times

NOT Clash of Civilizations but contact and mutual borrowing
At least until recent times major civilizations gradually shared, adapted, borrowed, and sometimes transfromed material elements of civilization and even ideas. A wonderful overview of history before European colonialism introduces eaxamples and processes for a valuable perspective that should be read by area specialists and others tending to see things from the view of a single nation, faith, or culture. The pace and shock of change increased with modern communications and powerful force producing perhaps a different story from the period after that so well reviewed in this book. One might start with Phillip Curtin and Wolf's "peoples without history' for this later period.

A cultural contact
Jerry Bentley argues against the popular Eurocentric belief that the world began with Christopher Columbus. In other words, before 1492 cross-cultural encounters did not exist. The book analyzes the dynamics of these pre-modern encounters, and seeks to understand cross-cultural conversion. Bentley argues that cultural and religious traditions faced much opposition in foreign territory, and that they rarely won converts unless there were political, social, and economic encouragement. More importantly, was the need for aid from the syncretic process which allowed traditions to gain support in other lands. Bentley offers illustrations to support his argument, however, he often uses sources of bias when they support his argument. Unfortunately, sometimes his arguments seem to contradict each other.

Good reference - but buy the hard cover, NOT paperback!
WARNING - YOU MAY NOT BE ABLE USE THE PAPERBACK EDITION AT THE PE EXAM!

For a number of years, this book has been used as one textbook for the PE License review course offerred in Minnesota. The auther formerly taught this course in MN.

The title of this book was NOT included on the list of prohibited books for use during the PE exam. Yet at a recent exam session in Minnesota the proctor confiscated my paperback copy, along with at least one other copy. Classmates who broght the hard cover edition to the exam did not have their books taken.

I believe the problem is that the front cover of the paperback edition proclaims boldly that the book includes over 100 solved problems for the PE exam!

So buy the hard cover edition - not the paperback - if you intend to take this book to the exam session with you!

Bentley's Book is great for understanding Power Theory
I am a control/electronics engineer. I took the PE exam and failed it the first time. My problem was that I did not understand electrical power (generation, distribution, power factor correction, etc.). The electrical PE exam is dominated by these types of problems. Digital Logic and electronics only represent a few of the problems on the exam, and understanding those types of problems alone will not allow you pass it. Bentley's book does an excellent job explaining power. I scored 67 the first time I took the exam. After working with this book for two days, I took the exam again and scored much higher (94 I think it was).

I have many technical books about VW Passat cars. I think, this is a better book! But with some troubles :) I buy this book from rb.com, and when get the book from USA, I saw - every second page in Engine section was empty :( I send this information to rb.com and waiting replacement 2 month :( Thank You.

Excellent technical manual, covers ALL systems in detail
Continues the traditon of Bentley Publishers. It's the most complete manual available for this vehicle, and is the factory approved service manual. Helps to have a fair level of techinical knowledge, book is intended for mechanics, but the procedures are thourogh, w/ plenty of pictures, and full information on year to year updates. Well worth premium price, worth far more than other manuals.

A charming story about Bearded Collie dogs, it especially speaks to all those dog-lovers of long-haired breeds. Full of personality and cute illustrations. Kids love it!

Great book for driving technique.
This book is geared towrd the racer who is just starting. It will help explain proper line and driving technique. I learned a great deal in requards to throttle and braking but it lacks in proper setup and maintenance. One thing that would have been nice to know is how to properly read tracks. An example would have been to show maps of a track and then show the proper race line in another map.

As a beginner it is a must read before bad driving turns into bad habits.

Somewhat of a "Sleeper" -- A Wonderful Surprise!
I purchased this book somewhat randomly when looking for something both informative and intrigueing to read. Not expecting too much, I was very surprised to find that the book was indeed difficult to put down!

Phyllis Bentley does an amazing job of telling the story of the Brontes' literary contributions in view of the time in history, the living conditions, and the settings in which the famed authors lived. All of these elements are eloquently combined and related to the literary and artistic contributions made by Charlotte, Emily, Anne and Patrick in early 19th-century England.

Bentley's writing style is straight-forward, and at times even a bit humorous. The photographs, drawings, and letters included on many pages of the book are fascinating and contribute greatly to a reader's enjoyment. For "light" reading in which you will truly learn something, I would highly recommend this book.

Brecht¿s Question: Not a ¿Red¿ Herring<P>
It's popular now-a-days to call communism "out of touch" and socialism "out of style." Brecht's question, then: Who should own anything? Should possession be nine-tenths of the law? Or should the laws of ownership remain an open-ended affair? -- could be called a foregone conclusion.

Woe to the foregone conclusion, then. Its trial date is ever on the way.

Laughably, the Helms-Burton bill, recently signed into law by Pres. Bill Clinton, is a giggle back to Brecht's discussion. And a silly one. One should think that were the United States to be in the business of giving back land "once stolen," that the Navajo, Sioux, Chippewa, et. al. would be first in line.

Not so!

Apparently, Cuba's land belongs not to its current owners, but to its capitalists of 40 years hence. Oh, silliness. Oh, amusement.

So ask Brecht's question, then, not as a socialist, a communist or a red. Ask it as a human being. To whom does anything belong? What is belonging? What is ownership? Who owns anything? When - and why - does ownership occasionally turn on its own head?
