A marvelous and beautiful pop-up historical work of of art
This book is sure to sit on may coffee tables of both those who own and ride Harley's, as well as those who appreciate the beauty of the machine, it's legacy and the creativity in which the book was put together. The Harley logo on the front of the book, when pressed, gives the sound of a Harley engine being started and then fades in the distance. I recommend this book for teenage through senior. By the way, I don't drive a Harley or am connected to the company!

Fantastic!
This book is a must have for educators of grades 1-3. It contains 70 experiments to do with children and my classes have been excited and interested in learning about each one that we've done together. Each experiment follows the scientific method and usually can be conducted with items that are readily available. You'll find that each experiment has teacher instructions, explanations, student method sheets, and student predictors to use to graph their hypothesis. This book is lacking in background information, but I've been able to use other materials to supplement the lessons. I also recommend this book for science fair projects.

The Icky Sticky Chameleon
This is both my favorite children's book, and my 3 year old twins favorite! We have worn the poor chameleon's tongue out from "thwooping" on to each page, and now need to buy a second! They fight over who gets to hold the book, and they know the story by heart! I have to buy the Icky Sticky Toad and Anteater too...they will be so excited. Great illustrations, great happy story.

Short Lessons in the Epic Theatre
Whatever the controversy in Brecht's personal life or even his authorship of the work which we credit him, the works contained in this collection are windows to understanding the form championed by many as the only alternative to Stanislavsky's method.

'The Elephant Calf' and 'The Measures Taken' are lessons in action and politics. 'The Jewish Wife' apart from being one of the most important monologues of all time, is a lesson in humanity. A great collection for any actor or serious theatre enthusiast.

Kent County, Michigan Marriage and Death Newspaper Notices
These marriage and death records were abstracted from five Grand Rapids newspapers for the years 1847-1866 by the late Marguerite N. Lambert of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Michigan initiated vital record registration in 1867 making these earlier marriage and death records valuable to researchers. This is her third book of newspaper marriage and death records which have been published posthumously. Her two earlier publications were Marshall, Michigan Marriage and Death Newspaper Notices and Wayne County Newspaper Marriage and Death Notices. Arrangement is first by marriages, followed by the more numerous death notices, many from out of town. This book is an excellent resource for anyone researching not only in Kent County, but in the entire State of Michigan. A full name index is included.

Learning Beyond the Classroom: Education for a Changing World

Illich revived with accelerated learning
Tom Bentley has combined his experience in education advice with think tank type creativity. This book was very easily read yet surprising in several ways. If you want to be challenged read this today. Tom seems to have become impatient with the inertia of our education system. He neatly sidesteps that problem by siding with Ivan Illich's de-schooled society. The result is holistic learning from all parts of society. Can we accept that self esteem is necessary for optimal learning? If so, that would make us all responsible for each other's self esteem as learners and everything else. No sledging not even in the middle! What paradise!

A well-informed and challenging framework from which to holistically apply accelerated learning in the 21st century. The author has settled for a well chosen, marketable though small set of innovative learning ideas. Our capacity for multiple intelligences (Howard Gardner), neural, experiential and reflective intelligence (David Perkins) and emotional intelligence (Daniel Goleman) are seen as seeds of experiential learning in Bentley's call for revival of Illich's de-schooled society. I liked the metaphors of schools as prisons and factories. The allusions have truth while being largely untrue. What would Rousseau say of experiential learning through solving real world problems?

This would have been worth six stars if learning giants Comenius, Lozanov, Kitaigorodskaya, Saferis and Asher had rated a mention. Still these pioneers came up with ways to make classrooms and schools great places to learn and develop. The schoolie tag should not stop inclusion here though. It has not stopped accelerated learning greats Tony Stockwell, Glenn Capelli, Tom Pike, Alan Sieler, Alan Silcock, Bobbi DePorter Charlotte LeHecka and Tony Buzan. They convince business world learners of their unlimited potential with great success. Worth every penny!

A wonderfully translated collection of Spanish classics!
This high-caliber collection was singled out for praise in Harold Bloom's "The Western Canon" as a Great Book. Roy Campbell is a miraculous translator. Included here are Calderon's "Life is a Dream," Lope de Vega's "Fuente Ovejuna," and Tirso de Molina's "Don Juan"--masterpieces one and all. Don't deny yourself this book, and if you like this, look for David Johnston's translations of Lope de Vega's "Madness in Valencia" and "The Gentleman from Olmedo," Edwin Honig's superb translation "Calderon: Six Plays," Paul Whitworth's translation of Tirso de Molina's "Revenge of Tamar," and Laurence Boswell's translation of Molina's "Don Gil of the Green Breeches" and "Damned for Despair." Fair warning: once you start reading these, you won't be able to stop!

Our child's favorite book (he's 10 months old)
The illustrations and story are both very good plus there is a felt duck that is attached to the top of the book. The story involves a different animal on each page in varied settings. This makes it easy to add to the story line as his interest in story time increases.

Fascinating Man who deserves more Recognition
One of my New Testament profs at Sem raved about Niemoller. He was at that time unknown to me. So, I bought several books, one of them this by Bentley. It is the best I know of.

This dedicated man to the gospel, would not surrender to Nazi pressure, but continued to wield the sword of God's Word against him. His congregation was continually surrounded by Hitler's men, who eventually arrested him, tried him and kept him as his own personal prisoner. On his way to execution, freed by American squad. Went on to ecumenical fame.

Great read, well done!

The "Mary, Queen Of Scots" Play Used In "Anne Of Avonlea"
This is the play that was used in the 1987 (?) movie, "Anne of Avonlea." It's really neat!
