This book is for any Me262 fan
This is the second volume of a four volume set. All four volumes will set you back over $150.00. If you are a fan of this plane as I am, It is worth every penny. The first volume covers the genesis of the plane. The second volume examines armament and it's entry into the German war effort. Filled with excellent photos, color plates, and technical drawings, this book is a delight to read. But If you are not a nut on the subject, you may find it is too much information.
This four volume set is really for the person who wants the nitty gritty about the plane. If you want an overview of the plane there are plenty of excellent books (Me262: Arrow to the future, to name one) that are out there.

Erasmus Revealed through His Writings
David Bentley-Taylor has written a most interesting account of the Dutch biblical scholar Erasmus, by telling the story of his life and writings by introducing us to him through his writings. Erasmus lived just after the invention of printing and used this new technology to publish the Greek New Testament and to retranslate it into Latin, correcting errors that had persisted for over a thousand years.

He tells us of Erasmus' strengths and weaknesses. We see him as the instigator of the Reformation, yet a critic of Luther and others who would take what he had begun to the next logical step.

He would sometimes stand up for what he believed in, but at other times would deny what he had previously written, to keep in favour with the leaders of the Church.

We see Erasmus' perseverance in the face of opposition and many illnesses, but we are also informed of the many contradictions in what he wrote.

This is a great book. It is even better than his very good volume on Augustine.

Highly recommended.

Age-appropriate "dining out" take along book for toddlers
We take this "book" along with us when we dine out with our now 2 year old daughter. She has enjoyed this book since she was 17 months and it is well tattered now. The removable purse items make this an excellent quiet "entertainer" when you're trying to eat dinner.

As Beautiful As the Orchids
This turns out to be an outstanding book and I'm very happy to have it. The text is pleasant to read, written in a friendly and personal way. The pictures are crisp and beautiful, and laid out nicely alongside the text for easy access while reading the description. One outstanding feature is the detailed habitat information based on the author's years of field experience in observing the habitats of each of these orchids. Another stand-out is that the author has done the photography himself, resulting in pictures that support and complement the text very well. I checked several books on orchids and wildflowers while trying to identify an orchid in my forest (which turns out to be a lily-leaved twayblade), and I found this book to be the best. In summary, I'm impressed with this book. I hope it will set a new standard for other books on regional wildflowers.

Hilarious summaries and opinionating on the Bard's works
If you are at all familiar with Shakespeare's plays, you MUST get this book. Even if you don't particularly care for his work. If you are a teenager being forced to read his work in school, you also should read this--it will not only help you understand the stuff, it will make you laugh your head off.

This is one of the most hilarious books I have ever read--and I'm used to reading the likes of everyone from Tom Robbins and Douglas Adams to Al Franken and Dennis Miller. As a kid, I found a copy of it in my hometown library and over the years would check it out over and over again...while employed at a bookstore I learned that the book was out of print and realized with horror that if anything happened to the one copy at my local branch, I could forget ever reading it again. So the book was copied (not by me, but I have access to it), because I couldn't stand the thought of it being lost. This is not to advocate piracy; this is to advocate the preservation of great works (humour or otherwise).

This book is essentially a summary of most of Shakespeare's most well-known plays (Romeo & Juliet, Hamlet, Taming of the Shrew, Macbeth), as well as some of the not-so-well known ones (All's Well That Ends Well, As You Like It, Measure For Measure). Sadly, not all are summarized, but I so wish that was the case. The writer was an English scholar who explained the plays in a dry, sarcastic, and thoroughly modern manner. If you want a good laugh, I strongly recommend you find this book by any means necessary.

September 11th- Senryu
I see the destruction on tv.
I see the chaos, and the smoke overtake New York.
I see flames int he pentagon.
I hear the acts of war, and terrorism
it's a lot for a person of my age to understand.
It saddens me, and it frightens me to think:
has the U.S. been made vulnerable, easily striked upon by enemies?

NO!

You can never break freedom of spirit.
All the losses will be mourned
but Americais still whole
we've overcome it before, and will overcome it again.
As a whole, as a partriotic nation.

Superb Translation
Eric Bentley's translation is fantastic. The first play, "Right You Are" is worth the price of the entire book. Pirandello's intellect and dramatic skill are awesome, as is Bentley's devotion to their rendering in English.

Playing to Lose
Published in Hardcover by Oberon Press (April, 1995)
Author: Stewart Bentley

Powerful and moving
Like a first-hand account of life in a war-zone, we are shown a picture from the inside where the fear is palpable and the horror visceral. However, we're not looking through the eyes of a trained soldier but from the perspective of a little boy. And he recounts not only what he sees going on around him, but also what happens to his own small body and how he tries to cope with his experiences. Playing to Lose also shows us the second part of the tragedy of family violence: how the legacy can be carried to the next generation. The little boy we watch fight to survive his childhood grows up to have a family of his own. This is where his struggle really begins, as he battles to stop himself from giving in to his rage and replicating the only patterns of behaviour he has ever known. From a literary perspective, Playing to Lose offers the reader an intimate portrait of an individual living with constant emotional anguish. The narrative effectively engages the reader in the swirling conflicts that comprise his daily existence. Simply trying to live a normal life while keeping his demons at bay is revealed as a struggle of Herculean proportions. From this situation Stewart realizes he must "play to lose" -drive away those he loves to protect them from himself and learn how to heal from his past as a matter of personal responsibility.

Playing to Lose is a book everyone should read. For those fortunate enough to lead lives that have not been seriously touched by violence, it will provide insight into the nightmare lived by the survivors of incest and abuse. Others may find comfort in the knowledge that they are not alone. They may be inspired to persevere in their struggle to break the pattern of violence. For social workers, therapists and others whose work is affected by family violence, Playing to Lose can help to strengthen their understanding of the roots of violent behaviour, provide insight into the experiences of both the abused and the abuser, and may even help in the development of appropriate therapeutic strategies. Most importantly, this is a book that can help those touched by violence and abuse to heal. Stewart is not a victim. He is a champion and role model for everyone seeking to gain control of their own life-regardless of their past.

Bentley manual - THE BEST!
Great manual, nearly as good as the set of factory manuals. Many times better than the Haynes manual - you can do anything to your 911 using this book. Just great.
