Easy read, lots of inside info on the "Classic" companies
Peter Henshaw writes about the history of classic bike manufacturers with a style that doesn't give a clue as to how hard it must have been to gather all this history. He has articles and photos covering: Ariel, AJS, BMW, Brough Superior, BSA, Douglas, Ducati, Excelsior U.K., Excelsior U.S.A., Harley Davidson, Henderson, Hesketh, Indian, James, Jawa, Laverda, Matchless, Morini, Moto Guzzi, MV, new Hudson, New Imperial, Norton, NUT, Panther, Royal Enfield, Rudge, Scott, Sunbeam, Triumph, Velocette, and Zenith.

80 pages. 100 full color photographs including some Harleys like the W-series 750cc, a 1923 J model, a 1915 F model and the 500 cc single that I don't remember seeing in the big official Harley book. There are 15 color photos of classic Harleys. The Vincent photos and company history alone justify buying this book.

If I had any complaints it would be that I wanted to see the whole bike in some of the photos instead of the few where they only show the engine section and alittle to each side.

I hope Peter Henshaw does some more detailed writing on specific models, or I should say, specific brands of classic bikes. But, here is a pretty good overview of the major players, excepting the Japanese makers of which at one time there were almost 200 in number.

Custom Lettering and Pinstriping Techniques for Vans-Rods-Bikes
Published in Paperback by Eastwood Co (April, 1995)
Author: S.T. Golson
Amazon base price: $8.95

A fine book for novice pinheads (pinstripers).
If you want to be a pinhead this book is an excellent place to start. Not only are the steps necessary to properly load your brush here, there are great practice ideas to help yours lines become consistent. Also covered are different lettering and how to get the brush strokes right for sign painting. This book even covers damicending foil for that machine turned look. This book helped me very much and answered my novice questions well. I would have liked to have seen examples of actual pinstriping from famous stripers like Von Dutch and Ed Roth. Despite that I highly recommend getting this book.

A Good look at America - at 10 mph
This book is a delightful metaphor for our journey through life. We set out with goals in mind and find that life surprises us with twists and turns not unlike the roads the author followed on his cross-country trek. This is a journal of the daily frustrations with weather, health, and the logistics of riding a bicycle from Friday Harbor, Washington, to Key West, Florida. It is told partly through the author's email along the way to his wife and friends in Seattle (the introduction to each of the chapters), but mostly by his personal journal of the trip formed during and after. His intimate writing style lets one get to know him and the landscape along the way, but more important is his capture of the peoplescape - literally a cross-section of each state he visited through the people he encountered, and a refreshing look at our American society as we live it. I enjoyed it very much. More pictures would have got it 5 stars!

Review
A good pamphlet if your planning the trip. It provides a good deal of useful information on routes and places to stay. It would be great if the pamphlet was updated as I'm sure there have been changes since 1999.

Fairly complete assessment of riding possibilities in AK
This book offers fairly complete ride and trail assessments of some popular and not-so-popular trail rides, mainly in SouthCentral Alaska. Topo maps coincide with trail and ride descriptions, although they could show a bit more detail. There are not many books on the market on Alaska riding possibibilities, although there are some new Alaska web sites appearing, so having this book as a resource would be a good idea.

Outstanding Detail
Mountain Bike VA is an excellent book for the mountain bike enthusiast or just someone who enjoys biking at a more leisurely pace. Divided by VA Counties; each ride has detailed instructions on how to reach the trailhead, associated costs, distances, type of trail, difficulty, a trail diagram which includes a trail terrain profile, a couple of pictures and a witty, descriptive narrative. Well worth the minor cost and then some. I highly recommend it.

It's about time!
Finally someone has done a through guide book of ohio. The information in this book could be a little more up to date, but that is a little hard to due with trail expansions and closures. I'm extremely happy to see the book because I met the author while riding at mickeys mountain, in norteast ohio, with two friends. Although the author put some of the pictures with different trails . I'm on page 137, in the front. Needless to say I was stoked to see my photo in print.
