Extensive descriptions of trails
This book has very detailed descriptions and good maps of Florida's paved bike trails. It's great for anyone who is looking for places to ride, whether you're trying to stay away from traffic or planning a trip.

Made our vacation
Thanks to this book we had a vacation of a lifetime. The author's knowledge of bike routes is unsurpassed. He took us to the Everglades where we counted 137 aligators as we rode by them. Also, he knew all the great parts of the bike lane from Key Largo to Key West. We traveled on all of them using his recommendations. When we got to the end of the good parts we did a reversal and it was just as enjoyable. His information was 100% accurate.

Everyone Struggles Trying to Learn Something New
We really enjoyed this Franklin book. It shows kids that 1)never give up and 2)everybody struggles trying to learn something new. Franklin thinks his friends will make fun of him since he still has his training wheels on his bike. Franklin then remembers that his friends all had trouble learning new things as well. Franklin then devises an interesting way to learn to ride his bike. Its precious.

Excellent
My 5 year old son got this book for Christmas and we have read it every night since! It depicts the struggle for a young Turtle, Franklin, as he wants to learn to ride a two wheeler like his friends, the peer pressure involved and his overcoming his fears to finally accomplish his goal. Excellent story!

A wonderful guide!!
My wife and I lived in Germany for 2 1/2 years and used that time as an opportunity to get into bicycling. One of the first books we bought was "Germany by Bike"...a smart move on our part. Of the 20 tours listed in the book we took 3 of them and can say we were most pleased with those. The directions are simple and easy to follow and the trails are wonderful. If you're looking for a great guide to explore Germany by bike then look no further.

Won't find a better guide!
Definitely the best cycling guide book there is about Germany. I grew up in this country and thought I knew it well - yet Nadine Slavinski's book reveals a treasure of little known secrets. Her tours provide a brilliant mixture of Germany's best in terms of bicycle touring and you can tell that she has spent quite some time working and researching in the 'Old World'

Like a fish on a bike
Sonny,a little fish is the main character. When a small dirt bike is ditched, in the little lake he calls home, the saga begins. His daily routine interrupted, he goes to investigate. The bike has landed upright on an embankment. The handlebar streamers beckon him to come closer. His detailed observations of the "TWO-LEGGERS" leads him to conclude, he may be able to ride the bike. His preparations, doubts and discovery are sure to to make readers smile. His good freind,Catfish and The Nosy Perch are memorable characters. Vibrant, humourous watercolors add to the fun. The"Fishnotes"are wonderfull! Valuable lessons on life, language, ecology and self acceptance swim through the story. Pinellas Park, FL.

Charming! The story of Sonny the fish is a new classic!
This is the kind of story that really tickles inside! A child will want to read it again and again! And parents will be pleased by the learning packed into these pages. Like a Fish on a Bike is the story of Sonny the fish, whose life is suddenly changed when a bicycle is thrown into the lake where he lives. Written in a poetic style, the underwater adventures of Sonny and his friends will amuse children with its playful, inventive language. And, the story's unique point-of-view will guide children with a subtle, underlying intelligence into thinking about their own above-water world in fresh and original ways.

Far Beyond the Traditional
"Abandoned Autos" examines some of the subtleties of American automobile culture. The photos contained in this work range from vehicles rediscovered in farmers' fields, to several with trees growing through the engine compartment. Such photos are then contrasted wth corporate promotional literature from when the vehicles were new. Excellent stuff for readers who are lured by the path less travelled and can appreciate the beauty and even sadness embodied in these cultural icons depicted well past their prime.

ABANDONED AUTOS
AN EXCELLENT GIFT FOR LOVERS OF (UNRESTORED) OLD CARS.I GAVE ONE AS A BIRTHDAY GIFT AND THE FEMALE RECIPIENT WAS DELIGHTED. INTERESTING TEXT AND LOVELY PHOTOS MAKE THIS A LIGHT-HEARTED ADDITION FOR THE COFFEE TABLE

An essential guide for any mountain biker in Hoosier land.
This is a book that any mountain biker in Indiana, Eastern Illinois, or Northern Kentucky should have. Dozens of trails, helpful directions, and contour maps. There are a number of terrific, yet out of the way single-track trails included. The only negative is that it is a bit dated.

Cameron's ATB book is an Indiana Cycling Bible
Layne Cameron has truly given Indiana cyclists something to be proud of. He has displayed, with inciteful commentary and fun humor, the best mountain biking Indiana has to offer and the interesting monuments these trails have near their locale. This book is an all-terrain cycling Bible with wonderful maps and excellent directions. Thanks Layne!

Great NW Washington State Guide Book
I wish all guide books were as well researched as this one. Each hand drawn map has GPS waypoints on it plus all the major features and a reference to the USGS/Green Trails Map. Locations of nearby campgrounds and supplies. Plus a very nice rating system so you don't get in over your head. There are 2 maybe 3 overlapping trails with the "Kissing the Trail" book but that's ok. Wish I had thought of having a career of riding my bike and writing a book about it. Way to go John.

The Bible
These two books are the bomb(S). The directions and the descriptions of the rides are spot on and most importantly the selection of the rides (if you like truly remote, tough, and stunningly beautiful adventures) is tremendous. My copies of these books are dog eared with love and mud. Trust me you cannot go wrong with these books - and I've biked all over the country - or biking in the Pacific Northwest July - Sept - Amazing! Too good! Be prepared for some long drives from Seattle (2hrs each way) but the memories will last much longer. Enjoy! I hope Zilly goes on to write books for the rest of the country...

Need for the Bike

Authors: Paul Fournel and Allan Stoekl
Amazon base price: $45.00

Biking to Oulipo
This book is a little gem. Good writing about bikes, cycling, the Tour de France, racing, growing up in Loire, riding in Paris, etc. I can't recommend it highly enough. It is published by University of Nebraska Press (Bison Books) - they along with publishing western lit and history also publish a number of French lit books. Paul Fournel is a member of Oulipo (Ouvroir de Littérature Potentielle) along with other writers such as Raymond Queneau, Harry Mathews, George Perec, and Italo Calvino.

A good writer and a good publisher. The translation flows along nicely and although I can not attest to the accuracy (not being able to read French), I thought it quite good.

A Prose Poem About Cycling
If you have an ear for poetry and a love for the bicycle, then this 150-page gem will earn your respect. Fournel is a writer's writer with a taste for going fast on a classic road bike (handmade steel frame and Campagnolo components). He "needs" his bike in order to overcome a mild tendency towards depression. (Sound familiar?)
Out of this endorphin rush comes a subtle taste for everything from the variety of hills that we need to climb to the texture of the roads that we ride to our childhood memories. Winds, companionship, competition, beauty, class, smells, sounds, food & drink and dope are all touched upon. If you're a cyclist it will deepen your ability to experience and express what you already love about the sport. If you're not a cyclist, then you can transfer his "need for the bike" to your own obsession. A true Pleasure.
