A book that influenced my writing career
Classic SF from the pulp magazinesHe was the nicest, most helpful spaceman on the Venus cargo run . . . and just happened to be the biggest menace in all of space! A classic science fiction novel, originally published in science fiction pulp magazines in the 1950s. Still a lot of fun and better than much of what is being published today.

A Comprehensive guide for beginnersThe book gives a good overview of all the relevant topics without dwelving deep into the mathematical hypothesis on Sharpe's concepts and Black and Scholes model. This is the best book to start with for Security analysis and portfolio management, both for analysts and students
Good reading which will make the student money.Using my own risk/reward model as applied to the projected benefits of purchasing this investement vehicle in education, and specifically forcasting a student's return (as salary) "n" yrs from the date of his/her investment, I can determine:
Given: n= yrs studying the text (assume 2); q= the IQ of the student (assume 120); c= inate charm factor, 1-5 (assume 3); w= probable inheritance (assume $15M); f= the propensity towrards fraud (85%);
Then, doing the math:
Salary = {[sqrt of f/(1+c/q x w)]n!}-3 = $85,436.52/year (until time of capture by police in 7.3 years for fraud)
If fraud factor is assumed to be less, but inheritance factor kicks in sooner, no need to buy this book.

Bold and beautiful, written in an ancient style of thinking! This totally unique writing style is an experience that brings the meaning of human existence into a clear and meaningful perspective. Mr. Bond channels his ideas on Tai Chi with poetic grace and delivers a 'tour de force' rendition of Chinese thought as it applies to our Western outlook on social interelations and the human experience. It is hard to imagine that just by reading this book a "high" could be experienced. But guess what? Bond's stylish book is a natural evolution from his magical television series seen on PBS and throughout Europe on the UPC network.
Profoundly moving, changed my life. This book takes you on a journey. Through its poetic, inspiring words, the reader will find himself transported to another level... a realm beyond the ordinary. Combining photographs and philosophy, Bond compels his listeners to realize just how precarious our contemporary world, beleaguered with technological paraphernalia, is on the verge of destroying our capacity for intimacy.

Very Enyoyable! This book was full of imagination and really made me think about life in general. I really enjoyed reading it and couldn't put the book down until I was finished. I can't wait for Amy to write her next book!
Great BookI throughly enjoyed this book. The female character is at first hard to like, but then you come to understand her a bit more. She is very real. This book deals with real issues that everyone faces. The male character is very nice, he is your good guy that tries to help the female character and ends up realizing that he can't change her only God can. This book is worth your time. Enjoy!

SBS Coloring BookThis Spongebob Squarepants coloring book is really coolios! It's got about 3 stories, including the usual maze and connect-the dots. If you're a SBS fan, it's neat to color them really cool and hang them up in your room, I've got a ton in mine! It's also neat just to look at the pictures and read the stories! It's loads of fun for kids and adults alike!
Better than a Krabby Patty!I'm 20 years old, and I bought this coloring book immediately when I saw it in the store. As an official SpongeBob addict, I had to buy it! The selling point for me, since I probably won't be breaking out the crayons anytime soon, were the stickers. There's over 20 great stickers of all of the characters (excluding Plankton)! The actual coloring book includes three stories, including "Bubble Trouble" and "Ripped Pants." Highly recommended for SpongeBob fans old and young!

A wonderful collection of southern recipes and charm. This book brings you not only a wealth of incredible recipes, but a humorous daily account of life in a southern restaurant. A must for anyone that loves the kitchen!
A Birmingham TreasureCobb Lane is one of those restaurants that you love to share and wish you could keep it a secret. Everything on the menu is excellent and the location gives you a feel of being in a small bistro in one of a hundred different places. This cookbook definitely brings the spirit of Cobb Lane into print. The quirky nature of the lane is reflected in the book selections. Everything from bloody mary mix to the Cobb classics to crab cakes. I've probably got around 50 cookbooks, but for special meals, this is the one I always go to first.

A "must have" for bedtime reading. This book is wonderful entertainment for kids. A great book for Sunday night family reading time. Parents and children will be laughing out loud!

Five good reasons to readFive good reasons to read this small treasure (which is listed for children but will appeal more to adults with a love of southern literature and folklore): 1)The language of the rural south; 2) What happens when Mr. Fat gets paid with a can of blue paint instead of money; 2) The story about the suicidal mule and the streamliner train (carrying the Lt. Governor and a Newspaper Man); 3) A bona-fide "hambone" (Hamboning was the ancestor of rap) performed by the storyteller, Ma Minnie; (4) When Miss Marie's Mama comes to take her home from the tent show; (5) Mr. Fat's opinion of the King of England. You could buy it for a child's Christmas gift, but if you read it, you'll probably want to keep it yourself. A few 'dams' and one "ass-over-whangdoodle." Not always politically correct, but as authentic as the red clay along the banks of the Flint River.

Relevant for many missionary kidsThis personal story of a wounded missionary kid is a story so familiar for many missionary kids. Mr. Peters did well in balancing the "taboo" of revealing MK (missionary kid) struggles and respecting his father's faith and committment to missions. If you're a missionary kid I encourage you to read this powerful book, and even more importantly, if you are a parent of a child raised on the mission field.
Through Isaac's Eyes; Crossing of Cultures,Coming of Age, anI was fortunate enough to have Dr. Peters for a class in college. I, too, had been to Siagon in the years he was there. I, however, was older and had gone because of service to our country. I found this a very compelling read as well as some what tragic. Even though Dr. Peters wrote fondly of his father, I found it tragic that this man would put his wife and child in such harms way. I asked Dr. Peters if his father ever understood how profoundly that experience effected him. He quietly answered, never. I also discovered that he had passed away before Dr. Peters could tell him how it changed his life. At fourteen he was to experience the same shock that many in the military did, only with no one noticing. This is an excellent read and may explain better than any other book I have read how many of us returned from that war emotionally shattered.

Adrienne Bond's Poetry Will LiveThe late Adrienne Bond was a champion of poetry, particularly Southern poetry. Her own poems show why the poetry from her native region continues to be a vital part of our national literary heritage. Bond brings to her own sense of place all the love, passion, and verbal music that she can muster, giving us lyrical passage into the inescapable subjects of memory, time, and mortality. There is no heaviness in these poems, though, no brooding nostalgia; Adrienne Bond has a sense of humor: whether writing about a huge holiday meal (complete with item after delectable item on the table) or a poetry workshop infiltrated by one rebellious Agnes who keeps insisting on bringing roses into the author's poem, she charms us with her eye for the humorous, yet compassionate. detail. Her poems live in my mind, in my ear, on my tongue. What more could one ask of a book of poems?
A collection worth getting"Time was, she declares" and "hard Times" are two of the best poems to come out of the south in years. The poems in this collection are quite diverse in style and content but all capture "the original of it, the real immediate thing." As Judson Mitcham writes in the preface: "her voices are authentic, her characters convincing, her landscapes vividly realized..."
But I loved the book. I don't write this particular style, true, but I enjoy reading it. And I enjoyed it more as a kid.
As a budding writer, this book taught me the value of vivid characters who behave in a consistent manner.
I learned one of Robert A. Heinlein's rules from this book -- that what a writer is selling is entertainment. That your work competes for the book-buyers beer money. Later, when I saw R.A.H. articulate that rule, I understood what he was talking about.
For myself, I slowly hatched the ambition to grow up to give other people the kind of sheer, soul-satisfying, good READ that Nelson S. Bond gave to me. Of course, there were many other authors that contributed to that ambition, but you know what? I bought this book at a convention at a premium price in the 1970's - and I still have it on my treasure shelf.
As a professional reviewer and teacher of writing, I recommend this book for readers in the 10-16 age group -- and those mature enough to be able to enjoy a book aimed at younger readers without being embarrassed.
If you like Farscape, Stargate SG-1, and/or Star Trek's new ENTERPRISE -- you really should read this book. This is their source-material.
Parents should read this book with an idea to judging at what age their own children would be able to appreciate it. But they'll be asking you what you're laughing at, you'll be having such a howling good time reading.
This kind of writing is timeless and can appeal to readers of all ages, if they're mature enough to enjoy for the sake of enjoying. And this is the kind of book no home sf/f library should be without.
