saving children
Divorce poison is a beacon of hope on the sea of psychbabble and legalese dealing with parental alienation. Unlike other books, it does explain this phenomenon, the damage it does to children, and what to do about it! PAS is a form of child abuse. In my work as a consultant with with a Family Court in Michigan, my colleagues and I have dealt with hundreds of cases of alienation over the past 20 years. Few books have impacted me as this one. It is not only soundly researched, but most of all it demonstrates that wisdom can be written in plain English. Bravo Dr. Warshak!

My own PAS story
My name is Christine. I have been dealing with being a custodial parent for 6 years and now for the last 6 years a non-custodial. I've been dealing with PAS (Parential Alienation Syndrome) for years. ...

This book is a GREAT BOOK. Informative and very insightful as to the complexities of PAS. Dr. Warshak also keeps informed as to current legislation ...

Nice directions for dealing with custody problems
I'm a child psychologist who deals with custody cases (among other things), and I found this book to be surprisingly good. Lots of helpful hints, solid advice, and down-to-earth directions. It also is helpful to lawyers, judges, and psychologists dealing with custody in the courts. While I would quibble with some aspects of the book, I found it on the whole to be very helpful, and have recommended it to some of my patients and colleagues.

Textbook
This book is written well enough to be used in a college course on the stock market. I cant say its helped me make money in the market with all the problems that have come about recently. This book will teach you enough about the technical side of stock trading, but not about managing a portfolio of stocks and mutual funds.

An excellent book for the beginner investor.
This well written book gives the beginner investor the information needed to understand investing in stocks.

The book goes through setting your goals, assesing your risks and rewards. It teaches you about common and preferred stocks and the basics of buying and selling stocks.

There is a chapter on different investment strategies and then the book takes you into fundamental and technical analysis of a stock.

Finally the book touches on mutual funds, rights, warrants, and options.

All in all this is an excellent book and is one that any beginner investor will learn a lot from.

Very good beginning investment book
This book was an easy read to learn the basic terminology. And it's a nice reference book with a good "stock" glossary at the back of the book. After this, you'll be ready to read something a little for philosophical like Peter Lynch's masterpiece "One Up On Wall Street".

A peek into a child's world
Although these books were first written about 40 years ago they are still fresh and new for each child to discover. The author allows the reader a peek into the world of our children; sweet and endearing. These books now available in board book format for the youngest listeners are the perfect bedtime books to soothe a youngster off to sleep. "Runaway Bunny" assures each child of the parent's unconditional love. "Goodnight Moon" not only offers a sweet way to say goodnight to familiar objects, but may even help establish a bedtime ritual that will help your child get ready for sleep, and "Big Red Barn" offers a perfect introduction to animals; their sounds and families. All in all this collection makes a great addition to a well established children's library, or a great foundation.

I wish I could give these books to every child in the world
These are the books your children will take to bed with them every night. Goodnight Moon has been my daughter's favorite bedtime book for 2 years, the one she HAS to have read to her before she can fall asleep. It must be the lyrical prose, and the illustrations that FEEL like a bedtime snuggle...this is the book I buy as a gift for every new parent.

Runaway Bunny is just beautiful, the watercolor paintings of a mother and child are fanciful and loving, and seem to come straight from a child's imagination. The theme is especially helpful for clingy children, reassuring them there will always be enough love to sustain them.

The Big Red Barn is simply the most enchanting book of farm animals I have ever seen, with lively colors and a story that intrigues my daughter so much, this is the first book she was content to sit down with and "read" all alone.

They don't call them classics for nothing
These three are terrific! I wanted to buy lots of classics for my baby and I was given this one. I could not have made a better choice myself. This is a great edition to my child's library.

Finally a clear and accessible book on bonds
As a novice to the world of bonds, I really enjoyed reading the Bond Bible. Unlike many other investment books, the Bond Bible is actually fun and easy to read. In plain English, the book details the structure of many different types of bonds from simple Treasuries to more complex instruments like Ginnie Maes. More importantly, the author gives the beginning investor practical advice in locating bond bargains and devolving a portfolio strategy. Best of all, the book is packed with personal anecdotes of the author's own experiences in the bond world.

As both a seasoned bond veteran and Forbes/CNBC columnist, Marilyn Cohen is able to effectively communicate her intricate knowledge of the bond market to the everyday public.

Finally, a bond book that makes some sense!
So often books about bonds (just like bonds themselves) go right over investor's heads...not this book. The Bond Bible is the perfect how-to manual - helped me figure out how much, what kind, and where to include them in my portfolio. I only wish I had discovered it earlier.

Stocks are not enough...
My name is Bond. Bond Bible. All jokes aside, bonds have been sorely underestimated. So many people forget that bond holders are creditors. So that when a company folds, shareholders lose out, but most often times bond holders get paid out. Ms. Cohen pulls no punches and is solid in her review of the bond world. I even like her inclusion of "Bowie" Bonds, the rock and roll bonds that were founded several years ago.

In all her talk I found her discussion light on leveraged bonds. Bond futures are also a viable means to enter this fixed income investment. I should know I've been doing it for 11 years.

That aside this is a one of kind book that no modern investor can do without.

A delightful, funny book
This is one of the most delightful children's books ever. I listened to my mom (Ann)read the Paddington books to my younger brother and was hooked. When I was younger, I remember my mom telling me about the bear on tv who liked marmalade but was never interested in him until I heard the stories. The stories often ended in tears- we would laugh so much. Well, I guess this is less of a review than it is a recommendation. With all of the worthless children's literature out there, this one stands out.

Great book! I can't believe I lost it as a kid...
I haven't read "A Bear called Paddington" since I was a kid. I love this book! Paddington reminds me of childhood and what it's supposed to be about. Paddington definitely gets into a LOT of trouble, but he's so adorable and innocent, that his trouble is more like an adventure. I like the fact that the Browns love him for who he is, trouble and all. He's just too loveable to kick out of the house!

This book is great!
I really liked this book because of adventurous little Paddington. I liked when they picked him up at Paddington station.

Azure Bonds (Forgotten Realms Novel)

An enjoyable start to a great trilogy
While I enjoyed the Finder's Stone Trilogy very much, Azure Bonds did not immeadiately grab my enthusiasm. But after a couple of chapters I was hooked. Novak and Grubb are a great team.

If you like fantasy stories, check this one out. At the very least you won't be disappointed you read the book.

Well written, entertaining
This series is probably my favorite of all the TSR books. In fact, having been disappointed with most of the books based on the D&D game, I have to say that The Finder's Stone Trilogy (Azure Bonds, The Wyvern's Spur, & Song of the Saurials) really stand on its own as a great fantasy novel. Although I read it many years ago, I have found memories.

Good read despite the TSR emphesis
The curse of the Azure Bonds is a good book because, and despite, its AD&D origins. It reads well, the AD&D foundations don't trip it up, and it is above all a story with people the authors make you care about, unlike other pasteboard D&D novels. It draws on AD&D foundations in a way that makes it both a good fantasy, and in a way that uses its AD&D beginnings to more fully create this "Forgotten Realms" world.

intelligent, truthful book
I wore out my highlighter while reading Emotion Value. Every chapter was filled with profound wisdom. As a teacher and speaker in the field of customer service I was grateful to Janelle and Diana for presenting such a truthful, intelligent book backed up with research and statistics. While my classes have always focused on the front line, I longed for a way to reach the management. Emotional Value is written with the CEO in mind. I hope they sit up and take notice, after 20 years of service training, service has gotten worse. This book explains why!

perfect
Perfect, this book is a perfect tool for all the managers in a mid positions, it helps to understand emotion and their value in a business. Should be read not only by the customer service people, but also by the all rests

Highly Recommended!
Janelle Barlow and Dianna Maul go a step beyond most consultants (those who write business books to drum up customers). Instead, they offer a wealth of scholarly research and sources in their in-depth, colorfully written book, which successfully tackles the enormous role that emotions play in business and customer behavior. They explain and document it, and provide practical applications. We at getAbstract recommend this important book to all business people, whether they offer a product or a service, from CEOs through every level of staff.

Response to Gloria Allibaruho' Review
This is to the response from Gloria Alibaruho dated 25 December 1999.

I just read your review of the book, Sacred Bond: Black Men and Their Mothers. You said in your review. "All of the mothers are acquainted with life as a journey rather than a destination." I think that is a very profound statement - your focus on "journey" implies a continuous activity as opposed to "destination" which is a fixed point in time. Too often, whether we set the stage or someone else does, we focus on a fixed point in our lives, the time when the journey is completed. We forget to celebrate the activities that brought us to our goal. This celebration serves to strengthen us and provides inspiration for the next day. That is why some goals are never reached - the preparations for the journey are not made and then we loose sight of our destination. Metaphorically, it is like taking a hike in a dense forest and forgetting to bring a map or compass.

I have a notebook of quotations that give me inspiration and I have just included your quotation in the book. Thanks for your words of wisdom.

Sincerely,

Susan Lightfeather lightfeather@exotrope.net

Sacred Bond is the most encouraging book I have ever read.
From the beginning to the ending of this book, I cried and laughed. It is the most uplifting book I have ever read in my life. It helped me to reminisce on my upbringing and how I am blessed to have had my mother and both grandmothers set examples for me as strong matriarchs. Sacred bond is very precious to me, especially now that I have my own son. I haved learned some of the things I should focus on and encourage him with from this book. It has helped me to see that I too need to be involved with my son not just while he is a baby but always. It helped me to see that I should make sure he is educated and stand up for what he believes. This was a resounding theme I got from all the mothers in Sacred Bond. I also learned from Sacred Bond that once my son achieves adulthood I should be active in his life, but learn to let him live his own life. James Love's story about his mother Henrietta Love was my favorite. Through his tragedy of being shot while under cover as a narcartics agent, he was helped to see his mother's strength and learned how it affected his life as a narcartics agent and in general. He thought his mother would go off her rocker when she found out he had been shot. Instead, she was cool and kept her head. She was strong through it all and helped her baby heal and get back on his feet. My favorite picture in the book is the one with Eric H. Holder, Jr., United States Deputy Attorney General and his mother Miriam Holder. This photo captures the love and pride a mother has when she sees all the work and devotion she has given to her child or children come to fruition. I could tell from the photo that both were proud to be apart of the other.

I loved this book and throughout the rest of my life will always refer back to it from time to time as I grow with my own son. I hope that one day my son will be able to look back and say that I too was a strong, devoted and determined mother. Most of all I hope he can say he is proud to be my son. I don't think any of the sons in sacred bond would trade their mother in, regardless of the situations they grew up in. I hope my son will fill the same about me.

warm and motivating
I love the way Keith Brown captures the essence of mother-son relationships in the African American family. It portrays the values that are developed between mothers and sons to produce strong black males. Each story is an example of encouraging motivation and hope for future generations of mother-son relationships.

The Bond Book: Everything Investors Need to Know About Treasuries, Municipals, GNMAs, Corporates, Zeros, Bond Funds, Money Market Funds, and More

Almost Everything
This book is an amazing compilation of explanations of all of the major bonds in the market. It lags the market in one major area. Credit derivatives which have internal financing and trade credit risk similar to bonds are not included. The credit risk of a bond is transferred in these derivatives. These off-balance sheet products round out bond portfolios and transfer the risk of bonds into collateralized debt obligations that mutual funds buy. No bond book is complete without discussing these products.

To be fair, the credit derivatives market exploded in just the last 3 years, and synthetics (credit derivatives and total return swaps) now make up 70% of securitizations bought by bond funds. Tavakoli has written an excellent and entertaining book on these products: "Credit Derivatives" (Second Edition).

Concise and well-written introduction to bonds
Although the subject of the book has very little "sexappeal," it is very informative for those who have alwayswondered why the media pays close attention to the bond market andU.S. Treasuries, and well as its significance. Included in the book is a very well-written section on asset-backed securities, another burgeoning market. Overall, great book for its intended target audience, but don't waste your time with this if you're an aspiring quant-jock / trader. From my recollection, I can only recall about 2 passages which allude to some sort of calculation. Try another book if you wish to have a more rigorous treatment of bond analysis and valuation.

A must read for fixed-income
I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in bonds, or for those who wish to enter the financial services industry. I had a difficult time putting this book down; the content was amazing.

Bonds are an important asset class to own, regardles of the current interest rates or stock market performance. You will gain a lot of knowledge either for your own informational needs or professional use.

James Bond saves the world from nuclear disaster
Secret Agent 007 first encounters SPECTRE in this exciting tropical adventure. This spy novel reads like a mystery as Bond gradually puts together the pieces of SPECTRE's plot to hold the world hostage. As always, the tale takes place in exotic locations and is filled with beautiful women and thrilling action. Fleming includes another tension-filled casino showdown, too. In addition, the titles in the James Bond Classic Library are inexpensive but very nice-looking hardcover volumes

Bond battles SPECTRE in the thrilling "Thunderball."
"Thunderball" introduces us to SPECTRE and its leader, Ernst Stavros Blofeld. Blofeld would become Bond's archenemy for a while, and he is certainly one of the five greatest villains James Bond has faced in his 35-year literary career. When SPECTRE steals two nuclear warheads, Her Majesty's Secret Service assigns every agent to tracking them down. Based on a personal hunch, M sends his best man (Bond, of course) to Nassau. Bond, fresh from a disastrous stay at the Shrublands health clinic, flies to Nassau to sort things out. Along with his American buddy Felix Leiter, making a most welcome return, Bond traces the danger to its source: Emilio Largo, second only to Blofeld himself in the organization SPECTRE. Bond girl Domino plays an integral role in the dissolution of SPECTRE's scheme. "Thunderball" is one of Fleming's finest novels, and it kicks off the Blofeld Trilogy, which continues in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" and "You Only Live Twice." Top-notch work.

An Interesting Novel
THUNDERBALL is a very interesting Ian Fleming James Bond novel. I found the first two thirds of the novel very well written. The final third of the novel seems to lose all its steam and sinks into literary mediocrity and that's what really interests me. The first third of this novel contains some of the best prose that Fleming ever put on paper. It is rich in detail and thoroughly engrossing. It is a true delight to read and savor. As the novel enters the second the third it still remains engrossing but seems to lack some of Fleming's usual drive and coherency. The final third falls below what could even be considered commonplaceness for Fleming. Fleming seems to have just given up on this project at some point and just finished it out to get it into publication. Yet THUNDERBALL remains one of my favorite Fleming novels. The first third truly is brilliant and I enjoy reading it and examining at what point Fleming became disinterested.
