A heart-warming book that makes a wonderful gift...
I was given this book by my best friend; we both feel a strong attachment to our gandmothers. Even just flipping through it, I knew right away that I'd like it. The quality of the paper, the photographs, layout, binding are all excellent. Once I started reading it, I was glued. It's not a cookbook to use as a resource; it's a book of essays, each accompanied by a recipe. Each essay is a like a snapshot into a family of long ago, and each woman is writing about my favorite topic - the strong "grandmother-pull" she feels. Many of the women write of grandmothers they barely knew but with whom they feel some connection, while others write of grandmothers who raised them or who were active in their families. In all cases, the love, respect, awe, and gratitude the writers feel toward their grandmothers is evident in each piece. The recipes are a fun supplement to each essay. They tell another story of the grandmother in the way they were handed down or written down, and I swore I could smell the smells of each grandmother's cooking as I read. I read this book cover to cover and hated to see it end. It transported me to times long gone, times of grace, times with my grandmother, Grace.

Would grace any home or community library collection
At Grandmother's Table offers a fascinating collection of writings about food, life, and the enduring bond between grandmothers and their granddaughters. Enhanced with the occasional recipes such as Grandma Riello's Spaghetti Sauce, Mildred's Wild Blackberry Tarts, and Grandma Rendler's Apple Strudel, At Grandmother's Table offers the intimate and candid thoughts of eight women, richly illustrated with vintage photographs and original drawings. At Grandmother's Table would grace any home or community library collection and is very highly recommended reading for those who appreciate nostalgia, family traditions, and generational legacies of the kitchen.

A feast for the soul...and tummy
This book is more than memories and recipes, it presents a cross section of cultures, personalities, and tastes. Each grandmother's story touches the heart--some are humorous, others poignant, but all reminded me in some way of my grandmothers. As a grandmother, it made me reflect on my role in my grandchildren's lives. The recipes are an added bonus. Delicious! And, most important, doable!

My Bible
This excellent book has changed my life, helping me to become a happier person and putting me on the road to my first good relationship. As I was reading it, I would come to new chapters and say, "well this certainly doesn't apply to me" (e.g. "Idealization of the Family"), but I quickly learned that those chapters did indeed apply. I now refer to it as my Bible because I so often talk about it to my friends and encourage them to read it. The section on Theoretcial Issues is probably too academic for most readers, and I am skeptical about how much schizophrenics can really be helped by these techniques. But I think the general population would be greatly helped by the ideas in the book.

piercing!!!
many books of this nature havebeen revelations for me. however, this is THE one! if i hadto choose for you one book thatsays it all it is this one. thisis the one that through aprocess of reading, digesting andapplication will transform you.this is truly life changing stuff!first time through my mouth wasagape most of the time. virtuallyevery line was a light bulb experience.thank you dr. firestone!!!

A masterpiece
One of the best, most powerful books ever writen. Reading this book will be painful, but worth it. It's worth at least 10 years of therapy.

For Anyone That Has A Passion For Travel This Is A Must Read
This is a great book to read when you are not able to take the trip that you would like to be on currently.

It is very well written with people telling about their stories of their trips all over the world, with very specific details that makes it feel like you are there experiencing their trip.

I found that I could not put down the book, as I truly love to travel but I am not able to just drop everything right now to take such a trip, so I could be there in my mind.

Bond's Newest May Be Her Best Yet
As a syndicated travel columnist as well as a travel addict, I find Marybeth Bond's latest collection of stories and experiences of women on the road even more exciting than in her past books--and just as readable. Any woman of any age hesitant to travel needs to read this book. It's bound to pique your wanderlust and provide the inspiration and confidence to go.

Great Book!
I am reading A Woman's Passion For Travel and I must say----WOW! These stories touch me so deeply that I feel I have shared experiences firsthand with the women. They speak to my inner desire to not just travel, but to immerse myself in other cultures to the point I feel I am native, to the point my heart belongs to the country. Please keep producing such delightful, riviting books. I am hooked on Travelers' Tales as much as I am hooked on experiencing life through travel.

a favorite in our house
This book reminds me so much of when I was a little girl and went with my mother to run errands. Back then the stores really did hand out keyrings and pocket calendars and my Grandma worked at a dry cleaner so I got to see the "magic machine" a lot when people picked up their clothes. My girls both love this book, even though the oldest is now 13. We have completely worn out the binding of the hardback copy we have!

Fantastic!~
This is truly a wonderful book!
This story is told by the little girl who is going to town with her mother for the morning.
She has a big green pocketbook, just like Mama's, but hers is empty and she can't find anything to put inside it.
Mama says "hurry", because the bus is coming, so the little girl brings her empty pocketbook along anyway.
During the course of the morning, she gathers many treasures and by the time the bus comes to return the girl and her mother home, her pocketbook is full.

The little girl's view of the world is refreshing and enchanting~
She observes that the cool marble walls in the bank smell like pennies~ And she is amazed that, at the drycleaners, the machine knows exactly where to stop for mama's suit.
This is a delightful book that moms and daughters will enjoy, but both boys and girls will like hearing it, and seeing the usual best from Candice Ransom and Felicia Bond's awesome pictures.

Big Green Pocketbook's a hit
My 22 month old daughter loves to read this book with me! i think she likes that the main character is a big girl and she's spending the day with her mom- something my little one can really relate to!

Colors

In touch with the soul of the heartland.
David Bond writes in a voice that speaks of the heartland. His content varies from gritty coal mining to sensuous romance without losing the trust of the reader. After reading this collection of poems, you can't help but look at the everyday men and women around you and wonder about the poetry in their everyday lives. David Bond has a gift of making the ordinary extraordinary.

Colors
In Colors, Bond brings the reader into his private world of exploration, wonder, loss, death, love, and tragedy. Along the way, the reader learns a little about Southern Illinois and rural life, and a lot about what makes the author tick. Bond takes a fresh look at old ideas and his ability to make the text come alive should not be missed. This is a very nice read for those wishing to explore a new and upcoming author that we will surely be hearing more from.

Midwestern "Colors"
"Colors" is a more than appropriate title for this vivid collection of poetry. With each poem, Bond brings scenes from his life alive to the reader. We are able to observe this otherwise ordinary world through the eyes of a man who appreciates all the colorful and wonderful aspects of life. Whereas other writers might choose to not write about difficult, upsetting issues, Bond uses subtle humor at points to help us understand that each of us has the ability to control our own lives, not the other way around. The complexity of his words cannot be adequately expressed by this review. Everyone should read "Colors" to experience Bond's uncommon perspective.

The Cop Who Wouldn't Quit
Published in Paperback by Bantam Books (April, 1989)
Authors: Rick Nelson and Johnny Bonds
Amazon base price: $4.95
Used price: $2.99

The Story Is Almost Over
The logical conclusions of this excellent book are about to play completely out. As murder mastermind Markham Duff Smith was strapped to a gurney and rehabilitated several years ago, triggerman Allen Wayne Janecka will now be strapped to a gurney and rehabilitated this coming July 24, 2003. That pretty much takes care of all the players -- except for Walter Waldhauser, who will probably spend the rest of his life in prison for some sort of embezzlement schemes he operated in Dallas, years after the events depicted in this book. Did anyone really think he would ever turn his life around?

Living In The Middle
As someone who was not mentioned in the book but still close to this case,I assure you that Johnny Bonds was unrelenting in his pursuit of Allan and all who were involved in this heinous crime.Allan was my roommate for a few months, after the murders occured, and although I had no idea about his involvment in the crimes,I knew he had a deeply hidden agenda. This is a book well worth reading. You will see a crime that leaves you baffled because of how the Houston police played it out to the press. You will see one man,Mr. Bonds, who just wouldn't stop in his search for an answer. And finally, you will see justice, justice for one beautiful litte baby boy.

One of the best books I've ever read...
This book reads like a Stephen King novel. Rick Nelson is a phenomenal writer. He throws you head first into the story - and this is one amazingly frightening story.

Best Introduction to the Stock Market
This was my first book on investing, three years ago. It starts with the assumption that you know nothing, but it treats you like an educated, intelligent person. The pace goes quickly, and by the end of the book you know everything you need to know to be an intelligent investor.
I have recommended this book to several friends who wanted a good investing primer.

An Edifying Read
Groz's book is just the kind of investment book that has been needed to fill the gap between market kitch and high-brow professional narrative. It leaves the reader feeling well informed but piques her curiousity -- and prepares her for -- an even deeper understanding of the markets and investing. It is clear that this was Groz's intention. A great book for journeyman investors seeking to negotiate markets and market-speak on a daily basis.

The Best Book on Investing
After reading many books on investing, this is the first I've found that offers keen insights to beginners and advanced investors. I would have no problem recommending this book to any of my Wall Street friends--or to my parents.

James Bond's London
Published in Paperback by Daleon Enterprises Inc (10 November, 2001)
Authors: Gary Giblin, Christopher Lee, and Peter Hunt
Amazon base price: $19.95
Average review score:

Top-Notch Reference Book For Bond Fans!
An excellent compendium of places and locations that have played a part in both Bond Books and Bond Films. The detail and descriptions are impecable and Gary's research has definately paid-off.

Particular note goes out to the two introductory writers, Peter Hunt and Christopher Lee, who both offer excellent background and depth.

One downside is that a map would have been quite effective to achieve the sense of geography and distance to these locations. As only a one-time visitor (so far!) to London, I don't quite know the relationships to the districts and locales, etc. In this case a map would have been quite helpful.

A Glimpse At James Bond's London
James Bond and London, the capital of Britain, go hand in hand. A James Bond adventure, whether it is cinematic or literary, would hardly be complete without some form of patriotism towards Mother England and off hand I can only think of a few adventures (mainly short stories) where no scenes talk place in Britain. This simple fact, coupled with the fact that every man wishes to be like James Bond, gives good reason for a book such as James Bond's London to be written.
Gary Giblin took up the challenge of writing such a book in January 1998. I shall not go into full details here as they're covered in Jordan Charter's interview located here. However, what started as a book entitled James Bond's Britain eventually had to be subdivided into two books. As a result of a lot or hard work James Bond's London was published in December 2001.

To begin with, James Bond's London isn't your average book, nor is it what I originally envisaged it would be; but that's not a bad thing, quite the opposite actually. What Giblin has presented is a travel guide to the world of James Bond in London. Quite simply, the book is the most useful source for anyone who wants to travel in the footsteps of James Bond, something, which could easily seem a mammoth undertaking.

Giblin has been very particular in the material that he has covered. By his own admission in an interview with CommanderBond.Net he has omitted literary material not written by Ian Fleming; of course indicating he is a purist to the work. Giblin has also omitted non-EON Productions cinematic material; again a sign of purity as there is only one true James Bond film series.

That said, the amount of material Giblin has included is still amazing. There a literally hundreds of locations that can be found in the novels and in the films. What is most amazing about the film locations is how many of them were used for non-British locations in the films. For instance the car park from Tomorrow Never Dies is actually in London and not Hamburg. Also, aside from locations that we read of and watch are locations where significant events of the Bond world took place. For instance, the birthplace of Ian Fleming or the former offices of EON Productions. If it's Bond related and it's in London you'll find it in "James Bond's London".

Thankfully, for those of us not well versed in travelling around London Giblin has an explanation of how to get to each location. Not only does he include the standard address, suburb and postcode but also details for getting there via the London Underground. As a part of this he's mentioned the platforms and the stations one should use and once leaving the station which streets one should follow.

The locations in the book are also well categorised. Rather than organising the locations by film, novel or perhaps relation Giblin has taken the initiative of organising them by location. So one could simply spend a day in a certain part of London and visit several Bond related locations. The guide makes it that simple.

As for the detail on each location Giblin has included quite a lot. To describe each location Giblin has used icons to begin with; for instance a clapperboard icon represents a film related location. As a part of the textual description for each location Giblin has not only included Bond related information but information on the locations non-Bond history. Readers will not only learn a great deal about Bond but a great deal about London too.

In passing good comments about the work that Giblin has done one must also highlight downfalls to "James Bond's London" - something that is not an easy task let me assure you. While I can find no fault in the material that Giblin has presented I must say that I was disappointed to find that the book was not offered in a hardback edition. However, in saying that one can definitely appreciate the fact that Giblin and the Daleon, whom published the book, made all attempts to keep the prices low. My only other complain is about one of the icons in the book; the skull and cross bone. The icon is disproportionate and according to Giblin this is a problem that occurred at the printers.

All in all James Bond's London is a must have for any Bond fan of any calibre. Gary Giblin has researched extensively into all aspects of the locations and the films and help from Bond legends such as Peter Lamont have made this a completely unique and factual reference guide.

James Bond's London
Giblin leaps to the forefront of Fleming/Bond reads, and joins the short list of the best,Pearson, Benson and Lycett.

Yet another masterpiece for the doctor
After reading the Doctors masterpiece three times, i had enough of his theta gamma explanations. I am an avid reader who greatly enjoyed the Doctor's complicated explanations. I totally agree with Elvis. Great work again doctor

Top class reference
I've been working in Futures & Options research for 3 years now, and this has proven to be the best refernce guide available. Terrence elucidates the concepts and mechanisms underlying the treasury bond basis with eloquence and intellect. His other work, Eurodollar Futures and Options, is also a great reference for the shorter end of the curve.

THE textbook for basis trading
This is simply the only truly readable and authoritative book on its subject. Terry Belton is acknowledged as being the foremost authority on futures research, and this book bears it out. If you're thinking about basis trading, or work in the derivatives market, this book is well worth a look.

(I should also mention that Terry is my boss..doesn't stop it being a good book, though. Hope I get that raise!)

Real Stories About Real Twins
As a twin, I really hate some of the questions that singletons ask, but Susan Kohl seemed to really understand some of the issues that twins face, like being separated for the first time in school and then as an adult trying to separate to find your own identity. She didn't tell the story, the twins told it.

You Don¿t Need to be a Twin to Appreciate ¿Twin Stories¿
For those of you that think that "Twin Stories" will only be of interest to those folks that happen to be a twin, I can honestly say that nothing can be further from the truth. As a non-twin I found Susan Kohl's stories about the unique bond between twins very touching, fun and enlightening. Like many other people, I have also been inquisitive about what its like to be a twin. "Twin Stories" provides a nice little "peek" into the lives of all kinds of twins, without shedding too much of the mystery...

Captures all aspects of Twinship---even loss of twin
This is a much needed book for anyone who is a twin or a twinless twin. It captures all aspects of the bond and even the bond that exists for those whom lost their other shortly after birth. It is absolutely wonderful reading! I have purchased many to give to my family members, for I am a twinless twin.
It will help them understand the bond that is there, no matter of a loss or not. It truly is an exceptional book, written with so much knowledge and compassion. I give it my highest recommendation.
