Did the best with what they got
Basically youll get very little information about owning a franchise. Some decent figures are in there (but I am sure could be found elsewhere on the internet).

What you will get is some type of financial statements for franchises that provide them. There is nothing special in this book! Most franchises do not provide financial information, so most of the franchises in here are no name franchises you probably haven't heard of (some are recognizable though).

Also they do not all follow the same format. Looks like the author took the information the franchiser sent and just reprinted it. You will not necessarly find cash flow in all of them. Some may just show expenses, etc.

Overall I was disappointed. All the information in this book could be obtained directly from the franchiser. For example if your interested in buying a dairy queen and dairy queen wont give you any financial information, dont expect this book to have it.

I found the "How to buy a good business at a great price" book (...) much more valuable. (...)

Too Superficial to be beneficial
This book can either be good or very bad depending upon what you want out of it.

If you are looking for a book to help you strategically help you decide upon which franchise that would be most suitable and profitable for you, then skip this one.

This book will best serve those people who are at the very beginning of thinking about openning up a franchise. In fact, those people may even be disappointed as well.

This book gives a very quick synopsis on the different franchises available. There is very little differentiation between the different franchising, with the exception of product type. For example, you can examine the different pizza franchises, but don't get enough information about which franchises are best.

So, if you are looking for just a few thumbnail sketches at the highest level, then you will probably enjoy this book. If you are looking for something more, then keep looking.

Nice Christmas (1998) Gift
The major part of this book is made up of two page wide, single line entries for each fund. Entries consist of the usual stats available for free on-line. It would be worth the price to have this information neatly bound in a book - if the data was current, but it isn't. November 1998 mutual fund data is not much use in November 2001 (will this bull market ever end?). No fault of the authors - but not a good buy now.

Too many textual errors.
It is evident that the book must have been translated into English because of the frequent misuse of grammer. This English version of the book also contains too many textual errors. The bond graph novice will not find this book of any value because the large amount of errors beg the question as to whether what was written is an accurate representation of the bond graph methodology. The book is better suited for the person who understands bond graphs and can sift through any errors that might exist.

Pre-Inferno Plays: The Father, Lady Julie, Creditors, the Stronger, the Bond.
Published in Textbook Binding by University of Washington Press (June, 1971)
Author: August Strinberg
Amazon base price: $20.00
Used price: $17.20
Collectible price: $17.25

Alas
Strinberg's plays unfortunately represent the worst tendencies of theater; they are long, ponderous, trying-to-be-profound, depressing messes. I say so not to insult his native Scandinavia, which produced many wonderful artists (Grieg, Munch, Tove Jansson, Ibsen on his good days) who are more deservedly remembered than Strinberg.

transactional talk piece - students only
This is not a treatise nor a source of knowledge per se. It consists of 2 transactions - a vc deal and a junk bond deal and a bunch of appendices with statutes. It is designed for class room use - this is the student text and there is, apparently, a teacher's text available. The first 150 pages has some nice, simple corp.fin. information. Not much use if you're a practitioner and want to know how a junk bond deal is put together. It's pretty easy to find 85% of the material in this book for free and just print it out. The other 15% is not worth the $90 this thing costs.

Mediocre
This book was not a classic, as I had heard. I have a few warnings for those of you who would like to read this book.

1. It is not as action packed as one is meant to believe.

2. The characteration is not the greatest.

3. The ending is immediate and not exciting or dramatic, let alone believable.

I was highly dissapointed as I believe many others will be. It is just another spy book. A mediocre attempt on creating a milestone in the series. Trust me, read it, but if you don't, know that you won't love it.

Garbage
Do not confuse this with the "James Bond Dossier," a great work for any Bond fan. This is really just junk and not worth the price.

The World of Ian Flemings James Bond
As a Fan of james bond for many years I have come across countless books dealing with james bond. Having read some of the reviews for the aformentioned book(The 007 Dossier) I have one good book to recommend to readers although it is hard to find.
It is titled, 007 JAMES BOND A REPORT by O.F.Snelling. The back cover of the paperback book reads"Here is the full fantastic lowdown on James Bond."
The contents are as follows; His Predecessors
His Image
His Women
His Adversaries
His Future

self-published junk
Proust and Mark Twain self-published some masterpieces. But often self-published books are junk, as is this one. Pass.

Standard Catalog of Stocks & Bonds
This is a nice try but the prices are way off the mark. They are for the most part way too low and not in touch with reality. The book provides a good basic overview of the Scripophily hobby, but the reader should totally disregard the prices. A search of Scripophily websites on the Internet will give someone a much more realistic view of pricing and availability. I have heard a lot of complaints about this book from dealers and collectors alike.

OK for beginners and online shoppers. Others should avoid.
This book provides a decent overview of inexpensive stocks and bonds from around the world. About 60%-70% of the items listed are from the United States. A large number of photos are provided and the type is very large. The authors clearly focused on the low end of the hobby. That's not bad, just not very helpful for mid level or high-end collectors. The quality of the photos is mediocre at best. They are black and white except for the covers and an eight-page insert. Even in this section, common material dominates, with only 9 of the 61 color photos shown being valued at more than ten dollars. Of those, only two are valued more than one hundred dollars. Many of the photos are fuzzy, taken at angles, or trimmed, giving the appearance that they've been lifted from online auctions. The values given seemed way off in my opinion. The authors note that the values were generally derived by reviewing online auctions and not by reviewing dealer price lists. I have to wonder if this approach makes sense since it doesn't consider shipping charges and the discount the buyers apply for the additional risk of buying an item in an online auction. Comparing my collection with the listed items left me with a feeling of incompleteness. Less than 10% of my collection was listed. In general, the book may provide a good overview of material available to the novice collector but advanced collectors should avoid it.

This book belongs in the dustbin
This book falls into the category of the worst purchases I have ever made. Most of the information is 'cut and paste' accompanied by obsolete photos. Jon Lake's credibility has taken a hit as far as I am concerned with this publication.

The Great Book of Bombers:
I have been buying books published by Salamander/MotorBooks for the last twenty five years and most have been brilliant.

However this book is a real lemon and I will like asking for a refund - the reasons :
1. The book is more of a hurriedly patched up work with a mot;ey array of huge black and white photos of new bombers - I am sure a lot of colour photos were available.

2.The description of the book is real misinformation : there are hardly any cutaway drawings around 4 or 5 and certainly not 25 as described.

3.There are very few colour artworks throughout the book.

4.The technical content is very limited and descriptions very brief.

5.There is only 1 intro chapter on bombing and not as misinformed "chapters"

6.There is no elaborate description of theoretical and practical aspects as indicated.

7.The entire book could well have been done in around 200 pages , looking at the technical content.

8.There are no diagrams or technical drawings on any of aspects of bombing.

All my previous purchases from amazon.com have been great and as per the book description - my recommendation (avoid this book at all costs !) . You are better off buying another book on amazon.com- World's greatest bombers by Roger Ford or Jet Bombers By Bill Gunston .
