Greatest writer of all time
Forget Shakespeare, Emerson, Plato and all. Bob Greene is the greatest writer of all time. It wouldn't make a difference if he published a grocery list, it would be perfect prose. This review could be interchangeable with any book he writes. Greene has the talent to find a story and then write it so the rest of us know why it is important to him. I've been a journalist for 20 years and hope and pray I'll get to be a 10th of Green's level. Quit reading this and go buy all his books.

THE BEST OF THE BEST
Bob Greene gifts his reader with a compilation of articles that evoke a myriad of emotions. Each story has a point to be made, and that point could uplift you, enrage you, provoke you, encourage you, surprise you, or just make you exault life. Diverse in topic, they are poignant; they are inditing; they are sentimental; they are little gems of this most gifted writer's archives. I read one story nightly, before bed, and I looked forward to that ritual with great enthusiasm....our media is interested only in the sensationalist aspects of news, and at times it becomes exhausting. Bob Greene says there is another side and "the proof is in the pudding" of this fine book. It is good to know their is a reporter who cares about the "small story" that packs a big wallop.

Excellent style of clear, precise writing. Bob Greene bequeaths us back our pride in America, our belief in inherent good, and our desire to exhault everyday heros. If you are media weary, restore yourself with this infusion of hope, courtesy of one of the best newpaper columnist of our times.

Excellent
When the subject of conversation is a Bob Greene book you hear many cliche's. Finger on the pulse of America aside, he's just a damn fine writer. Bob Greene is quite simply, a man you trust to get it right and give it to you straight.

Great for Everything!
We have had this book ever since we restored a 1970 ElCamino. We are currently in the middle of a 1971 Monte Carlo, and although some of the information is different, much of it is accurate for the MC as well. Our friends borrow this book so often we have to sign it out to them. Currently it is invaluable in researching a 1975 Nova. As with the MC, most of the information is the same (paint codes, etc.). I highly recommend this book to anyone researching their car!

The BEST way to properly identify the validity of a car.
This book gives just the right amount of detail to provide the car owner or a buyer with what the numbers really mean. It will also tell you in a hurry whether the equipment on your car is truly "original" I have accurately identified my 71 Elky as well as many others.

It is also a great reference when buying an "original" car. As some options for some cars were not identified by the factory apart from the original build sheet, the book only tells you about the numbers that you can find on various components. As an example, a 1970 SS was not identified by any of the numbers as an SS except on the build sheet. However, as any knowledgable enthusiast knows, the build number of the car (6 digits) is also stamped on the front of the block.

All in all a great book. Excellent for the Classic Chevy enthusiast Library.

Classic American Cars
This is like a wish book; I wish my car looked as nice as these restored beauties. All of the displayed cars are show quality and perfect serving as a good model for your own personal ambitions or visions for your vintage car. This book serves as a very useful resource if you have one of these classic American cars because it features many details about your particular model. Most people assume that if you have one these classic cars that it would be a Bel Air but the models vary and only the person in the know can distinguish the features that make one model different from another. Considering that there are not that many pages in this book it packs a wallop with information. When these 3,000 lb. steel road beasts roamed the hiways you could buy one NEW for under $2,000 fully loaded! Included are production details, the history behind the models, including pictures of never mass produced protypes, the color schemes, engine availability, information on options, complete specifications, you name it, this book pretty much covers it all. I found this book to be very helpful for determining facts about my particular 56 Chevy which is a 210 Sport Sedan(I get nice Bel Air all the time) that incidently had a limited production of only 16, 000 cars. it als ohelped to see what things my model was missing. This book is very useful for the hobbist, car enthusiast or anyone who loves the classic Chevy years 1956-1957. If you can find this particular book it is worth it , besides, it has the credibility of the editors from Consumer Reports.

My favorite car chevrolet made!
a beautiful, highly detailed account of the chevrold bel air and nomad. all color photos

A must have entry in your vintage Chevy reference library!
This book has turned out to be a great reference guide for me, most importantly with the extensive part number/cast number information covering all major powertrain components. It's the perfect mate to a vintage parts book and factory assembly manual.

There are some inaccuracies here and there, nothing that a double check against other references and more reviewers would cure in a 2nd ed.

Many of the chapters include some "filler" material not directly applicable to parts of the fifties, mostly sixties material probably from the authors other earlier books, but it is accurate and informational none the less.

If there's ever a 2nd edition, I'd like to see more "meat" in the crankshaft and piston chapters, rewrite of the wheels chapter, addition of fuel injection intake adapters to the intake manifold chapter for completeness, more Turboglide information, deletion of some non-applicable filler info, and more photos of actual parts throughout. You can never have too many photos.

It is great to see my book on your current list! Thanks!
There are four books out now with more to come. Hang on! The Author: Alan L. Colvi

Chevrolet History: 1929-1939
Great book! Unfortunately does not discuss Chevy's fine line of pickup trucks or panel trucks. Does - however - primarily through archival black & white photographs - show model by year - sometimes comparing with Chevy's competition for that year. I would highly recommend for Chevy enthusiasts. (Note: No color photographs.)

Chevy Book
This was a great book, lots of really great car photos. It was packed with facts. I shared it with my Dad, a long-time Chevy man, and he loved it too!

Chevrolet History: 1955-1957 (Pictorial History Series, No 3
Any automobile, Chevrolet or General Motors fan's library should include this book and its two companion volumes. I read and/or look at the photos in all three quite frequently.

Fantastic!
What a treat. I keep looking at this wonderful book again and again. A treasure for anyone into 55-57 Chevys.

A Page Turner for the Starry Eyed Hot Rodder Wannabe
In plain language, Mr. Santucci delivers insight into his love of this modest truck engine. He demonstrates how much real advantage knowin' has over book learnin'.

The book is not only very informative, but highly entertaining as well.

Thanks Leo!

great book
I have read this book to learn more about the in line chevrolet engine and what can be done with this engine. This book answered all my questions and more. It does not cover any 12 port heads though, hybrid heads are covered in one chapter. Leo Santucci was nice enough to list most modifactions by purpose (street, street/strip, all out drag) and tells you what to do to get the performance you desire without building an unuseable engine. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking the build a six with more than stock perforamnce.

Great Reference Material
This is a very informative book with loads of information. Many people who are restoring cars, classic car shows, building factory-stock models of those powerful muscle cars, etc., this guide contains much of the information needed to bring that classic muscle car (or even daily driver) to 100-point show condition. Hey, even a classic game show fan might enjoy this book (e.g., trying to guess how much that 1972 Chevrolet Malibu hardtop coupe costs with certain options, and playing along with that episode of "Let's Make a Deal"). Yes, there are some minor omissions that, while not detracting from the usefulness of this book, they do need addressing. For example, the content of many option packages -- whether trim, convenience, or more importantly performance-oriented -- aren't listed. And, it would have also been nice to list special-order options, Custom Accessories and at least a listing of dealer install-only options. Still, a very useful book and one that will be used and appreciated by all.

Great Book!
This is a fantastic guide that compares well with Michael Antonick's "Camaro White Book" and "Corvette Black Book." Very informative.

One of the BEST restoration books for your 1970-75 Chevrolet
Being the only restoration guide based on materials from the Chevrolet archives, it is one of the most essential parts identification references available. Information and original part numbers on nearly everything from the wheels to the water pump are explained via well-written text, schematic diagrams, and photographs in 17 chapters (over 300 pages). Vehicle identification and firewall tags are also covered. Engine codes for six engine sizes are thoroughly covered, including the rare 262ci. There are only three complaints concerning the book: the photographs are all black and white, some of the diagrams are rather difficult to read, and paint codes are not covered when the ID codes are explained. However, this restoration guide is a must-have for the serious classic Chevrolet collector.

Super guide for GM gearheads!!!
I work in a full line GM dealership and we have a copy of this and it's worn out from using as help to find parts and to see who's got what for sale when all they can tell you is a casting or part number. This guy did tons of homework on this book BEFORE he printed one.

The best Chevy part number book ever
This book contained the most complete collection of part numbers I have ever seen. Well organized and easy to understand. It will help you identify part numbers, date codes, VIN information, and much more. Well worth the price.
