Typical Chilton's manual
Great value! But since I can actually read and easily comprehend the title, and we own an old (old, old, old) daily driver, workhorse, 524td that was in fact made between those years, this work suits us just fine.
It certainly costs thousands of dollars less to buy, and read, this book and learn to do this most of this stuff yourself, than to cart the poor old girl down to the local BMW dealerships where they charge labor and parts fees like they believe that every Beemer owner has direct access to the vaults at Fort Knox. (Even if I did, it wouldn't be smart to give most of it away on the maintenance of an old car!).
As long as you don't really expect UPS to bring a mechanic along with the book so that your hands don't have to get dirty, and you know that the book won't magically transform your computer potato, cubicle inhabiting, soft handed self into an expert engine rebuilder overnight, you'll do just fine and you might even learn a thing or twelve. Hard work is it's own reward. Wax on. Wax off. etc...
A must have for any BMW owner

It's a Chilton manual so... well, you know what it's for.the Chilton's guide and get some of your auto repairs done
yourself. It isn't an FSM - no Chilton's manual compares
to an FSM - but it's better on avergae than Haynes' guides and
it won't get you into deep water without ample warnings.

Not a good value but a good book! There is a lot of useful information though in one easy reference. However, I don't feel it's worth the price. I just feel cheated by the cost of this book for some reason.
So if you have some extra money or you are too lazy to look on the internet or your local library I would definitely recommend this book.
Basically, since I have the book, I can definitely make good use out of it. Would I buy it again though given a second chance? Definitely not.

Typical Chilton detail
This book, like all the other Chilton books I've purchased in the past, are informative and well illustrated. It contains many photographs, but often they are fuzzy or dark, and the parts shown are often not clearly depicted and not placed in context very well. It would help if you were already a mechanic, and knew the machine in question. Not an adequate book for the amateur trying to perform an appendectomy on the first try.
This one is no exception. It is a generic motorcycle book, and not specific to any particular motorcycle, but it is helpful and a lot cheaper than the Clymer books that do cover specific bikes and model years.
I think it is a book that everyone who has a bike should have in their library, for reference. ...
A strange combination; better books are availableFor learning how a motorcycle works, I would recommend "Motorcycle Basics Manual" published by Haynes; for repair step-by-steps, get the manual for your make of bike; for souping up your bike, "Sportbike Performance Handbook" is more informed and explains the why and how behind the conclusions; for riding wear and technique, I'd recommend Hough's "Proficient Motorcycling." After reading these, if you just have to read something else, this book is not bad.

TOO generalOh, but there is a really good section on how to change the wiper blades! And here's one I'm sure everyone will use: wheel alignment; as if the home mechanic is ever going to do that.

toy things
toyota manualscall the toyota material distribution center at 1-800-622-2033 or you can buy them at any toyota dealership.
on another note, i would like to state that the 1987 corolla hatchback in manual transmition is one of the best cars ever made. mine (befour i owned it) has been driven hard, rusted out, abused, and left in the woods for 2 years it still runs great.
This book appeals to individuals with a desire to believe uncritically. It sounds good, and I expect he has been on Oprah many times. If you like a description of our potential for mental spoon-bending mixed with bad neuroanatomy, spiced with some small common sense regarding some actual problems in our society, this book is for you. If you want well-reasoned guidance, look elsewhere.
