A Bit DatedThe detailing information is fine but the recommnedations for detailing products is dated. This book should be revised to include improved products now on the market and exclude products you can no longer find.
Amateurs handbook.Good for amateurs and too bad the pictures aren't in color.
This compact book is the auto detailing bible. This is a "must-have" for every professional auto detailer and every shade-tree detailer too. It's packed with tips you won't find anywhere else. And the tips are grounded in experience so you can rely on them.

Really bad book.I bought this manual for my Grand Cherokee. I am extremely dissatisfied with it. What do you think you can expect from a book that covers 10 years worth of 3 different model vehicles? I have an earlier book for my regular Cherokee, and it has over 50 pages of electrical information! I can find out any wire, any connection, anywhere!! This book here - NO WAY! It gives me 2 small 5"x5" diagrams for the ENTIRE vehicle!!! Unless you are driving a vehicle that is one third Cherokee, one third Wagoneer, one third Grand, you are basically wasting your time...Stay away from this one...
Great Repairs! My husband found this to be very useful in trouble shooting for our 1988 Jeep. Save $$$$$ and do it yourself with confidence.
jeep stallsMy 94 jeep cherokee stalls whenever it wants I changed fuel filter, spark plug wires, discribter cap, coil what else?? Thank you Raymond Wooden

Don't knock Haynes bookHave a 1992 SL2 with an A/C problem Chilton had no information (as usual) Haynes had complete diagnosis and repair!
A must have if you work on your Saturn. This book is a must if you plan on working on your Saturn. The book gives you step by step instructions, with illustrations, on how to do any repair to your Saturn.
This is a lot better than the Haynes GuideIf you own a later-model Saturn (1995 or newer), this is the manual you want to buy. The Haynes guide is only good through 1994, and it's not as detailed as the Chilton's manual. No offense to the good folks at Haynes, but as far as Saturn manuals goes, these guys have you beat. With all the things that go wrong with Saturns (yes, I'm one of the few Saturn owners who thinks the car is a typical GM piece of junk), a shop manual like this is a must have.

Thermo SwitchWhere does the Thermo Switch connect to
It's a good manual, but it needs a little maintenance. This manual is supposed to be for the "do it your self" crowd. There should be a list of tools and materials for each job. There should be a photo or detailed diagram of locations for each job. They could learn a lot from the military about making a manual. Last words: I remain mystified by the back up light switch being in the drive train portion of the manual and not in the chassis electrical section.
i'm just needing to knowdoes anyone /could anyone see there way to send me an emmission control diagram for an 87 toyota tercel dx 5 door 3se engine carburated model needing to fix so we can take our child to school thank you johnny rimmer

Careless PublishingI have found at least two publishing errors in this manual. In section 2-10 figure 28, the sequence for the ignition coils is wrong. The index says windshield wiper section begins in section 6-23,it begins on 6-24. This is a distraction for the average do it yourselfer. In section 1-20 they start to explain about the engine drive belts, but they don't show you what's really involved in changing the serpentine belt. They say you need to support the engine and remove things that are not necessary. All you need are a few basic hand tools that I'm sure any Snap-on tool truck carries.
This is well worth the moneyTickled pink with this particular manual. This one's paid for itself many times over.Very descriptive and helpful, and I have not found many things lacking.Being an ex-mechanic who hates to pay 55$/hr at the shop unless needed, this is a good one for even the novice.
Everything You Wanted to Know About......This is for those die hard do-it-yourselfers who have a desire to save money and feel like becoming one with their automobile. There is nothing quite like waking up knowing you have to change the timing chain. Fresh breeze, the smell of coffee and grease. What more could you ask for. This book will guide you step by step even though you have to provide your own creative language after you smash your knuckles once or twice while removing the cover bolts. But hey look at it this way your wife is happy her car is running perfect and you are headed to the golf course for an afternoon of relaxation. I would say this book is the way to go.

OK as a secondary referenceAs we're not talking about an expensive book, it's OK to buy it as long as you include the Haynes Repair Manual (Jeep Grand Cherokee 1993-2000) in your cart as your primary Choice.
Chilton's tries to cover way to many models of different cars and fails miserably in some aspects. Haynes, in the other hand, deals with Grand Cherokees only, making it much more accurate for ZJs (all the info applicable) and WJs (some info applicable) owners. In case you don't know ZJ stands for Grand Cherokees manufactured between 93 and 98 and WJ stands for Grands made in 99 and after.

RE-build it yourself!Typical Chilton book, tells you everything about the car you could possibly want to know except the thing you're looking for. I recently bought an old (1988) Jeep Comanche; wanted to replace the speedometer cable...using this book I could replace the transmission, overhaul the engine, re-build the differential, but no where could I find any info on the speedometer. Line drawings are crude and difficult to interpret, photos are worse. The text is good and gives adequate instructions. When I go to grind the valves, I'll know how!
Chilton's Jeep 1984/98 Repair ManualIt beats the Haynes Repair hands down! I'll never buy a Haynes Book again afte checking this repair manual out. I received this also in the mail in just a couple of days! First Class Service from Amazon - First Class Book from Chilton's.

Changing spark plugsI have a '98 Cirrus with 2.5 engine. I bought the manual for guidance in changing spark plugs. The removal & installation section on page 1-39 and 1-40 only addresses the front 3 plugs. It is obvious by looking at the engine that something (the intake manifold plenum) must be removed in order to get to the back 3 plugs. By going to pages 3-23 & 3-24, the engine repair section, removal of the plenum is discribed. Is all of this necessary if the ultimate goal is just changing the plugs? Can the fuel line and the throttle body stay connected while the plenum is moved to one side? Maybe trial and error with provide the answer.
A Must HaveThese manuals are a "must have" for me. I've always had one for all of my cars, and they've helped me with belts, radiators, electrical diagrams, alternators, suspensions, etc. The book pays for itself by letting you do it yourself instead of paying someone else.
Better than Chilton Manuals of Yester YearI bought the book for help in changing the serpantine and power steering belts on my Sebring JXi. The instructions were very clear and the diagrams excellent. This is one of the better Chilton's manuals

Can we say "useless"?Upon first opening the book I expected it to cover everything about transmissions. Well it did, theoretically speaking. It showed pictures and examples, and it had some shots of the Ford AOD transmission. However, when it began to give diagrams showing the bolt hole patterns - it left out the AOD! When it showed the in-depth diagrams of all the transmission parts, it also left out the AOD. To top it off, the book barely covers any model-specific instructions but rather showed vague and "universal" instructions. I'm going to try the ATSG AOD manual and see how that goes. But this book is a waste of money, try to find a model-specific guide.
great but ...this book is good for beginners or people who are just learning the ropes about automatic transmission. lacks the depth and technical concepts that a repair manual should have. still ... very helpful on a whole
Excellent choice for beginnersIf you want to start repairing automatic transmissions this is your first book!. It will help you introduce and understand the basics and theory of operation of most auto transmissions out there. Once you get thru this book, is just a matter of getting the service manual of the specific transmission you want to repair and the repair kit to be able to succeed, like me, on your first overhaul.

Not impressedI was under the impression that Chilton was a reputable publisher of good quality manuals. I was disappointed to find pictures of the pre-SN95 engine. There are many differences between the fox-body and the SN95 Mustangs. Additionally, a couple of pages had pieces torn out of the middle of the pages, making the diagrams and information on those pages unusable. The tears must have been from the printers since I received the manual in shrink-wrap. If I ever have to buy another shop manual, it will definitely not be from Chilton. I'll give Haynes a try.
Good book, but using photos of 93 style 5.0 was wrongOverall, this book has lots of good information but their coverage of the 5.0 engine was questionable. As anyone who works on the 1994-1995 cars knows, their are small but significant differences in the last 5.0's when compared to the 1993 prior models and when the author chose to use the old style engine photos I also question whether the specs published are correct for the 94-95 engine.
Gotta get this one!!I truly believe any owner of a 94-98 Mustang must get this book. It is filled with illustrations and step-by-step instructions that make the procedure go smoothly.
I needed to remove my door panel, for example, and I know that I would really struggled with it had it not been for the book. It showed what to do, and what NOT to do.
You won't be sorry that you got this one!!
