Not for American cars
I ordered this hoping it would relate to my 1975 Chevrolet, but it is oriented completely toward English cars of the 50-60-70's. Good book for them; not for US restorations.

A must for HEV enthusiasts, but could've been better...
Dr. Wakefield's second book in a 2-part series on the history of the electric automobile is well-written, well-researched, and an absolute must for anybody who wants to know about hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs). Unfortunately, this book was a little frustrating because he frequently refers back to his first book, which is very tough to get now (out of print). Also, he dwells heavily on solar cars, and less on more practical HEVs. Nonetheless, Dr. Wakefield is THE authority in the area of EV history, and anyone who wants to know this subject must read this book.

Good Value
For the price you should add this book to your collection. There are quite a few nice color pictures in the book, but there are also a few errors in some of the stats and photos. There isn't much detail or statistics for the researcher. It is organized by decades and not all models are covered. Photos are worth it- put it on your coffee table!

Good for Beginners
I was a little disappointed with this book. While it covered a fair bite of ground, there was not enough detail. By covering so much territory so quickly, many of the finer technical points were left out. This book may be aimed at people who are new to the subject of automoibles. To give the boook credit, it does give some important history into the orgin of the car, and why cars are so important to millions of people. When I say important, and I am refering to an idea that a car is more than just a way to get from point A to B, instead a car is a passion.

Britain's Automotive History
This book is basically an encyclopedia of automobiles that were produced and sold in Great Britain during the 1920's. One chapter deals with American-made autos that were imported and sold in Britain. Each entry consists of a good quality photograph and a bare bones description of the car-- to include number of cylinders, horsepower, and engine displacement.

Not What It Seems
This book is a great book on classic cars....unless you are actually interested in American classic cars. The book review never mentions that 80% of the material is on the foreign exotic car market. On top of that, the book deceives you by showing 5 out of the six cars on the cover as American. There is only one section that covers all Ford cars from 1920-1936. For anyone who knows Fords, a lot went on during this time. However, in a span of about 10 years, there are 15 entries for Ferrari. On top of this, this book considers cars like the Ford Taurus and the Chevy Cavalier as classics!!!??? If you are looking at this book to show you a little bit about classic cars, I would say do not waste your time or money. There are many more books out there that will do a better job with more familiar cars.

Decent Overview
This book was a little disappointing. The editor takes liberities with his selections - they seem to reflect mostly what his idea of classics are. The descriptions are not very technical, and the photos are decent. A good book for a beginner enthusiast.

be careful
unless you own a MG or some other brittish junk don't buy this book, not only is it childish to the point of being a complete waste of money but the author doesn't even know what he is talking about when it comes to how to correctly wire a common alternator, or dynamo, as he calls it

More a review of the previous one.
Pardon me, but I find it even harder to take advice from some backwoods hick who can't even spell the word british. I causes me to wonder if perhaps he had trouble reading it.I would further caution him that a many british cars are wired very differently than swamp buggies by having the ground opposite of the American standard. Perhaps that is one of the roots of his misunderstanding.

I have found it very common for people who can't find another vent for thier limited imaginations to go to bash a book, album, movie, ect. Usually it more stems from a lack of understanding than anything else. For instance Haynes is a British Publisher, so one could reasonably expect a book from them to cover british cars. Perhaps he would be better served with Wiring Your Swamp Buggy published by Hooked on Phonics.

Thank you.

Disappointing
I visited Cuba last year and was amazed at all the wonderful American cars, so I really wanted to enjoy this book when I bought it. It has a few great photos, such as the cover photo, but mostly the photos are pretty dull and repetitive and don't really say anything about Cuba. The text, mostly by a Cuban writer, is boring waffle with very few facts and historical data. Where are the interesting anecdotes about Ernest Hemingway, or even Fidel Castro and other famous characters and their cars? The wonderful little pocket-size book on Cuban cars by Cristina Garcia is much more interesting. I'm still waiting for a really good photo book on the subject.

Helpful for a complete beginner
Bought the book hoping there would be detailed information for blueprinting a 4 cycle engine. Although it does give some suggestions & hints at what is needed, it does not go into depth on any subject. A complete beginner who knows nothing about 4 cycle engines might find this slightly helpful, most anyone with much experience with 4 cycle engines would probably find the information contained in the book "old news".
