Wonderful Book! Finally
My parents divorced 2 years ago after being married for 30 years. After 2 whole years, my mom was still stagnant, as hurt and as mad as the day she filed for divorce. I've sent her numerous books, groups and web sites and she never got trough any of them. She's really not a reader so I thought she would not read it at all. The day I sent this book to her, she began reading it right there, cover to cover. She said it is the most relavant book she has read that she can actually relate to. That it help put a lot of what she was going through into focus. glad something my mom finally finds useful to help in healing and growing after life with my dad.

A Must Read for Divorcees
I interviewed the author recently, and was very impressed with her insight and understanding. If marriage can be a swamp, divorce is always a minefield, and Sandra Kahn ably maps out the danger points.

This is by far the most freeing book I've ever read!
I thought I had a life sentence with my X. He was and still is an attorney. He could manipulate me to death before during and after my marriage was over. A friend gave me "Leaving Him Behind." At last, someone knew how to finally end my marriage--years after my divorce!

A Scarlet Cord
Action and adventure, mystery and romance all rolled up into one! That is what A Scarlet Cord offers you the reader. Deb Raney is a gifted author. She uses her talent to touch the reader's heart and to show her deep faith in God. I just absolutely love all her books.

A Story worth staying up all night to finish!
I haven't read a suspenseful romance this emotionally charged in a long time. You want to believe in these characters. . . your heart will ache for them. There's nothing contrived here--just real, heart-wrenching conflict in a page-turning read. Highly recommended!!

Heartwarming, Magnificent Tale
Author Deborah Raney is an expert at asking the tough questions and then weaving a magnificent tale to come to a satisfying answer. A SCARLET CORD, the author's latest novel, asks, "Is it ever right to hide the truth? Can deception be redeemed?" When Melanie LaSalle meets Joel Ellington, she finds a man she begins to care about ~ a man who awakens feelings in her she thought she'd buried with her husband four years before. But as the relationship deepens, so do the mounting suspicions and accusations against him. Has she believed a lie? Is Joel the man she thinks he is? You'll have to read to book to find out ~ and the ending may surprise you. Like her previous books, BENEATH A SOUTHERN SKY and AFTER THE RAINS, this latest work ~ A SCARLET CORD ~ will keep you turning pages, and give you a heart-warming read.

The Caner's Handbook: A Descriptive Guide With Step-By-Step Photographs for Restoring Cane, Rush, Splint, Danish Cord, Rawhide and Wicker Furniture

The "Bible" of the seat weaving industry!
Of all the myriad of reference books I have acquired in the 25 years working in the seat weaving business, The Caner's Handbook is by far the best and #1 on my entire list.

I was fortunate to purchase my first book (in hardcover), right after it was published in 1984. I had already done every type of seat weaving covered in this book, but through the clear, close-up pictures and accompanying text, was able to fine tune my craft even more.

At each one of my seat weaving classes, and whenever someone asks me what the best all around book on seat weaving is, I tell them to buy The Caner's Handbook. Through the information in this book, anyone can learn to weave with cane, rush, splint, rawhide, Danish Modern, Oriental seagrass, and all types of splints in a variety of designs and patterns.

Jim Widess, who besides co-authoring this book, is the owner of The Caning Shop, where he and his employees not only sell materials used in cane and basketry, but have first-hand knowledge of weaving. They have been doing this for a living for many years, so know all the problems and questions the novice as well as the consumate weaver might encounter.

I urge anyone that is contemplating beginning seatweaving as a hobby or profession to buy this wonderful book, take some time to read and digest it, then go out and conquer the world of seat weaving! There will be no doubt that you will be a professional in no time!

concise, straightforward
this book is far and away from your typical 'how-to' book. These actually want you to learn this skill. You won't be let down with this one.

The only book you need to weave seats
One book that tells you EVERYTHING is The Caners Handbook by Bruce W. Miller and Jim Widess. It is the best I have found. A great book for beginners as well as pros like me who have been in the business for 20 years.

Finally ..... something at MY level!
When our 5 year old daughter was diagnosed with a Brainstem Glioma, the hospital and Child Cancer Foundation (in New Zealand) gave us books to read, if you wanted to wade through all the technical stuff, personally I couldn't cope with it all. Then when I was looking at sites on the internet, I read about this book. I had a look at it at Amazon, and thought about it for a few days, trying to weigh up if it would be relevant to NZ'ers. I finally took the plunge and got it. I am soooo relieved that I did. Suddenly I was able to read something and actually get some benefit from it. The inserts from the parents are wonderful - suddenly I don't feel so alone, and the advice is universal. It relates to anyone in any country going through this nightmare.

This book is a "must have" for caregivers
As a parent to a child who had a brain tumor, I feel that this book covers all the major topics. When our son was diagnosed back in '98, I searched for such a book but none existed. Our son has since passed away but we are thankful that this book is available - particularly for newly diagnosed families. We purchased copies for our public library and for The Jimmy Fund in memory of our three year-old son, Kevin Kirsch. Thank you for writing this much needed guide. It will be a resource for caregivers and medical professionals alike.

The Best
Having a daughter die of a Brain Stem Glioma, this book would have helped tremendously.

Inside the Halo and Beyond: The Anatomy of a Recovery

Marvellous Max!
Like many of Maxine Kumin's devoted reader/fan/friends, I came to her poetry through Anne Sexton's poetry/life.

However, as wonderful as Sexton's poetry is, and I love Anne Sexton's poetry, Maxine Kumin's poetry and prose can well stand on its own considerable merits.

Inside The Halo is a wonderful, gutsy, thoughtful book.

Having had some "orthopedic trauma" myself, though nowhere as severe as the accident Kumin survived, I can attest to the abundant truth she tells about the frustrations and joys of rehabilitation, and the "tough tenderness" of the best therapists.

Kumin also speaks movingly of how her amazing husband, children, and grandchildren rallied to see her through.

This is a difficult book to write about, because words like "uplifting" have become debased with casual use.

However, I am of the unshakable opinion that all doctors, nurses, therapists, and lovers of great writing would find something real in this fine book.

Inside the Halo and Beyond
Putting thoughts into words is the salvation of many, particularly Maxine Kumin, who describes her recovery from paralysis in "Inside the Halo and Beyond." I was recently paralyzed myself, so I keenly identified with the account of her rehabilitation. Yet I felt pangs of jealousy because she walks again and the chances are nil this will happen to me.

Still, this book deserves an all-star rating for Kumin's eloquent and starkly honest description of her connections to poetry, literature, current events, international suffering, nature, equestrian riches, gardening, familial and friendly relations. She evokes empapthy and compassion without resorting to sappy sentiment or references to God. She explains, "My agnosticism eroded eventually to the skeletal remains of atheism and there I still stand. I'm not sure whether I should envy or pity the faith of others. Yes, it would be nice to have, but it seems a luxury of pietism I cannot afford."

Her love of words is eloquent: "I've always been a galloping reader, racing for information, hurtling past intervening advertisements or cartoons, breathless and fascinated with language."

It's a fine book.

WHAT NOURISHES
Maxine Kumin has given us a gift. "Illness, disability, the specter of permanent damage... are deeply personal, immediate, and terrifying," she writes. Indeed. This chronicle of recovery from a cervical spinal injury sustained after her horse bolted is a courageous foray through the intense first ten months of recovery.

More than a story of pluck and resilience this book delivers joy in its reaffirmation of what nourishes us: loving relationships. Relationships with husband, son, daughters, and friends--both old and newly formed in recovery-- and relationships to the land, to its bounty. It seems impossible for someone so connected to life to ever give up on it easily. Kumin narrates, in journal form, her struggles and how she didn't quit.

Kumin's life unfolds in this book. We see the stoic formed when her adored father "hovered in the doorway" when she was ill as a child; the horse lover who takes "deep pleasure" in seeing her horses in action; the gardener describing cauliflower and broccoli lovingly planted in May from seeds started on living room windowsills; and the poet who says of her farmhouse, "All of my doors are held open by stones."

The mother and wife are here, too. Kumin's daughter, Judith, spends months with her mother. It is comforting to read of a supportive, caring, daughter/mother relationship that flourishes during a time of great stress. Kumin is not afraid to tell us about moments of guilt and despair: "How I feel about my accident is quite simply that I screwed up everybody's life by living through it."

All this is written within a flowing narrative style that is groomed by this writer's cumulative knowledge of what is important in language and life.

Maxine Kumin is one of my favorite poets. I cheered when this well-paced chronicle lead to a spring when this writer was finally back in the "peaceful kingdom" of her farm in New Hampshire. I am grateful the author has offered a book that allows us to witness her struggle as she looked inward and reached out.

John G. Fleagle
"Guenons are one of the most specifically diverse groups of living primates, but the true extent of their behavioral, ecological, and phylogenetic diversity has remained largely unappreciated. This exciting volume describes many new aspects of guenon biology. The authors use the diversity of guenons to address, and often question, several major tenets of primate socioecology. Most significantly, this volume thoroughly demolishes the view that guenons are a uniform radiation."
- John G. Fleagle, State University of New York at Stony Brook

John F. Oates
"This book is a cornucopia of recently-gathered knowledge about the natural history of Africa's most species-rich group of anthropoids. The volume is particularly strong on behavioral ecology, but it also presents important new evolutionary analyses and, in a useful section on conservation, makes practical suggestions to address the growing threats posed to the survival of African primates by ever-increasing habitat loss and hunting."
- John F. Oates, Hunter College

Karen B. Strier
"The Guenons is encyclopedic in its coverage of this remarkably diverse group of primates. From chapters on evolutionary history, behavior, ecology, and conservation, The Guenons also offers a window into the world of primatology, as seen through the lenses of these monkeys and the researchers who study them. Glenn and Cords should be commended for assembling such an impressive set of contributions from so many guenon experts. This volume will be the standard reference on the guenons for many years to come."
- Karen B. Strier, University of Wisconsin-Madison

Superbly written, with inspiration and information for all.
Laurel Duran's book skillfully weaves spiritual truth and suspense with the story of one who followed her own path of healing in the face of the grim prognosis offered by allopathic medicine. She encourages those challenged by illness to listen to their intuition and explore healing alternatives as well as following the advice of medical personnel. The author, who survived a near-death experience, demonstrates that it is possible for those whom doctors have declared "hopeless" to recover fully. The book carries a powerful reminder that we are not alone in this life - the One who has sponsored us remains with us at all times. I promise any reader that reading The Blue Cord will produce laughter, tears, chills, rage, and leave you with an increased appreciation of human courage and the power of Spirit in the face of challenges.

Inspired me even without the benefit of a spinal injury.
Ms. Duran shows how to stick up for yourself in our pushy medical system. Attitude is everything. Heal yourself or blame yourself. There are universal truths in this book and I have benefited from hearing of her experience. I no longer fear doctors, death, or dismemberment. (Well a LITTLE less fear.)

WOW! :)
I can't begin to say enough good things about this workout. I am an aficianada of Bryan Kest's original Power Yoga series from 1995. I also enjoy his new videos (especially Intensive Sculpting) from 2002. But...I just love this CD. It is the best workout that I have done in a long time - maybe ever. I thought initially that it might be weird working out without the visual imagery of video, but it is actually better. Bryan's voice is extra soothing, and his direction easily guides you from pose to pose without needing to look at the included book, (assuming that you know a few basic poses, such as cobra and down dog - the others he aptly describes.) I found myself more able to concentrate on the yoga, without distraction. The basic workout begins a bit more relaxed than his Power Yoga series, taking a bit more time to stretch, as opposed to getting your muscles "hot" right away. But before long, you find that your heart rate is getting up there and your muscles are working and that you are doing some invigorating but really challenging balances. This is spinal strenghening at its best, relaxation at its deepest. Bryan Kest's emphasis is, as always, on knowing your body and its limitations and first and foremost, feeling the breath. Another nice thing about this workout is that although it is divided between two CD's, the second CD is basically the last stretches and relaxation, so if you have a single CD player machine, you are not changing the discs in the middle of an intense pose. Also, you might like to do the relaxation CD by itself sometime, just to unwind. A bonus is the book, which has all of the poses and could be taken on a vacation even when you don't want to take the CD. This CD is great - and a day after doing this workout, all of my muscles feel like they got their fair workout. Six stars. Check it out.

Excellent!
It's in cd format, therefore one can do as little or as much as one can handle. It is actually a well rounded full body workout. I thought it might be lots of spinal stretching and relaxation, but it includes loads of strengthening for the spine and the core. Starts off with a spinal balancing sequence - table position on hands and knees with extended opposing arm and leg - then side arm balances with lots of variations, and extended cat pose...then seated poses with table (stomach towards ceiling) with lots of variations and much boat work. Then prone poses- swimming type work, yoga "supermans" and bow pose. Next track is variations on camel with great lateral stretches. Then standing balances which are quite advanced. Then there's an extra hips and legs section - reclining pidgeon and nice hip stretches which feel great. finishing poses include plow and shoulderstand and neck stretches. Plus of course my favourite spinal twists.

In between the poses in the first tracks - mini flows - plank down to low pushup position, and cobras and down dog. All in all about 130 poses which include the transition poses.

The booklet is great too. I thought it was going to be tiny - cd sized, but it's quite big - about 8 inches square, and spiral bound which is great - and every pose is photographed - Bryan doing the advanced version of the pose, and a female model showing modifications. There are also written instructiosn along all the poses. And there are a couple of cute dogs in some of the photos - nice touch - my cat likes to join me in my yoga practice, so I appreciated this.

No music, but I don't mind. Music can be great, but it can be distracting.

All in all a great find. I am really happy with my purchase, and plan to do it regularly.

An excellent game system
The game system was well though out and plays very nicely. I was expecting a lot less and was gladly suprised at the depth put into this game system.

Even if you are not a gamer, and just a Tolken fan you will enjoy reading the book.

Provides great fun for hours on end.
My brother and I went in on this book, and it was a great buy. The book tells you how to create your own characters in the game and it also tells you how to play. This book is the main book you will need if you want to roleplaying. However, it is very helpful if you buy the Middle Earth Atlas book too, because it has a lot of maps and history details of Middle Earth. This book is great because of all the excitement and fun you can have. This is a must for any Lord of the Rings fan.

Play your way through Middle-Earth
This game is so awesome! It was the first RPG i ever played and i loved it. This game is so cool. It provides hours of entertainment and fun. You just choose your character and Play! It is so fun. (I've said that about a million times b/c it is.) So if you are bored this summer get this book!

One of the best for beginners in Neuroscience
This title is the best I have come across and is most suitable for beginners in neuroscince who have no background in biology. Once you start reading the book it is almost difficult to put it away unless you finish the book.

USE study group
Our university's neuroscience study group use this book with CD-ROM. best colourful image and figures and powerful use CD-ROM study neuroanatomy.

if your study group explorer neuroscience books, this book help you.

Great Neuroscience Book
I just finished using this book for an undergraduate course in neuroscience. It was one of the best biology books I have ever obtained. I have since read the sections the course did not have the time to cover and enjoyed them all. The figures are excellent and greatly aid in your learning. The authors are even somewhat comical at some points. In all, I would highly recommend this book for the introductory neuroscientist!
