outdated
Of interest; the book's authors are throat and mouth specialists. Also, they are not aware that their institution ( Johns Hopkins) is making great strides in SCI research. that's a invaluable contact they neglected to study. Bold predictions are made claiming that SCI will not be cured within several decades, 100 years etc. Yet they tell the reader to move on with your life and still have hope for SCI therapies. Here's the problem- they do the worst thing imaginable, they condescend to the patient, providing false hope, if they clain SCI treatments (valid ones) are hundreds years away, then why should patients stay hopeful if it will not help them or anybody with a SCI in our lifetimes? These are serious claims from authors whose credentials do not include spinal cord injury.

Finally, a real life approach!
Since my SCI in May of 1999 we have accumulated a pile of books dealing with various aspects of SCI. At 1/10th the price, this book is many times better than any of the others. Their down to earth approach leads you from the point of injury until the day you make the transition from patient to the new you. Outstanding!

Fun and Educational
A quick, fun and easy read through a short dictionary of the people, places and things that make Boston, Bostonians and Boston history unique. While it is more trivia than history, it explains the origin of each item. It gives the reader a "local's view" of the *real* Boston, rather than the "tourist's view" of the town the Chamber of Commerce wants you to see. The author's unconditional love of Beantown shows through her somtimes humorous, sometimes irrereverent, and sometimes critical glance at Boston people, places and things.

Important basic resource
This book is an important basic resource for people with SCI and the people who love them. While the material is heavily slanted to male sexuality issues after SCI, some female issues are also addressed. The format is designed in questions and answers, which allows the reader to skip around and read whatever topics they are interested in, or ready to deal with.

The book could use more detail in many areas, and suffers from a lack of any diagrams or drawings to show positions, sexual devices, etc., but is the only book written for people with SCI about this topic for many years. It could be seen as an introduction to the topic as well for many healthcare professionals, but would need to be follow-up by reading more from the professional literature.

Not worth the paper
This book is full of non-scripturally based lies itself. It follows the pop culture of complete tolerance, which is not the teachings of Jesus. Don't waste your time if you want to find salvation, turn to the true teachings of Jesus, "The Bible".

A waste of money
This "book" is merely a pamphlet that gives a few basic facts about a spinal cord injury. If you are looking for help, knowledge, or helpful advice, forget it. It belongs in the free pamphlets rack in the doctor's office. $1.00 would be a big price.
