The Best!
This cookbook is fabulous. I have given as gifts numerous times, and have been told by each recipient that it is the favorite cookbook! I have even bought this cookbook used to give as a gift when it was out of print for awhile! The pancakes and waffles are terrific, and the other recipes are great, lots of new and old things to try. I am a collector and I have one thing to say: Buy it! This is a must have cookbook!

Good book for students!
As a student, I find this book FAN-TAS-TIC with a capital F. I just threw a biscuit and gravy party at my friend's house in WeHo, everyone loved it. Thanks Marion!

Here Here! This book is A-OK
I just loved the fantastic recipes. Easy as pie to follow, yet the dishes turn out restaurant quality. My husband says this is the best eating since our bed and breakfast tour of Sonoma/Napa.

Real Numbers: Management Accounting in a Lean Organization
Published in Hardcover by Managing Times Press (25 March, 2003)
Authors: Jean E. Cunningham and Orest J. Fiume
Amazon base price: $27.50
Average review score:

Transforming the Bean Counter...
The book's presentation makes a case for accurate and timely information that is easily understood and actionable. Whereby it is now time to take the benefits learned from implementing lean manufacturing on the shop floor into the office and remove the blinders of old traditional accounting systems. Doing so transforms the accountant from bean counter to a valued partner in the business.

Discussions include:

* a strong section on performance measurement - what the financial team should be measuring in place of current traditional accounting reports.

* how to streamline the process and bring about meaningful change

* a practical methodology for making the transition away from cost accounting - to go from micro accounting to macro accounting

* plain English management financial systems - what they are, why to use, benefits, and how to get them using the one day close method

* new concepts in budgeting (the lean budget) and capital planning whereby one looks at reduction in inventory and flexibility instead of per part cost

* lean acquisitions - what to do with all that new found cash

The final three chapters are my favorite where Jean and Orest take their boardroom management skills and depart wisdom to the reader. Here it is explained why the CEO and CFO must become active leaders, the benefits of breaking from tradition, and the twelve principles of lean accounting.

This is a must read book for everyone who wants to shed the role of bean counter or who has struggled with bean counters and their misunderstanding the accounting side of lean manufacturing.

The authors provide some solid, invaluable advice
How can a manager gain a real picture of a company's performance? Real Numbers: Management Accounting In A Lean Organization helps managers understand management accounting practices, which often produce complex financial statements which have little to do with reality. Each of the authors is a CFO who probes management accounting systems and how simplicity and clarify can be restored to an organization's accounting system. The authors provide some solid, invaluable advice on tweaking accounting practices to get the most from facts and figures generated by accountants.

Translation Key between Production and Accounting
Do you remember your favorite cheat sheet from language class? It was a book or a pamphlet or even a tightly scrawled crib sheet with key reminders on how to navigate the gap between your birth tongue and a whole new world. You carried it around with you to help find your way.
Jean and Ori have put together the best cheat sheet for people straddling the language gap between modern manufacturing and old school accounting. I can't recommend "Real Numbers" enough. Mine is already dog-eared. I carry it with me to international planning meetings to help me translate the smoke and mirrors that can fill the room.
"Real Numbers" is filled with concise, easy-to-understand chapters that assist any decision-maker in understanding the transition from bean counter to business partner. Every chapter has a value-adding how-to approach to overcome the major mental hurdles blocking lean enterprise: controlling wasteful transactions instead of eliminating them, supporting rear-view driving instead of agile leadership, covering every contingent instead of reporting accurately what is needed and when.
Most companies attempting lean transition run into the failure of business accounting to update its methods in stride with lean thinking. This book explains how accountants can see themselves in a new role bridging that gap. And seeing that new role with a shared accounting language is half the battle - won.

Y2K Survival Guide: Protect Your Family From The Coming Crisis

If you buy only one book on the Y2K crisis, make it this one
Having spent the better part of the last three years holed up in an underground bunker, I can say with some authority that J.C. Cunningham's Y2K preparedness guide is an indispensible tool for surviving "The Coming Crisis". The tips on stockpiling nuts, berries and ammunition were invaluable, as was the suggestion to cease all contact with bears and other woodland creatures. And I shudder to think what would've happened had I not stopped bathing in the days leading up to the Y2K catastrophe. Every time you take a bath you lose thousands of precious cells! (p. 17)

Cunningham has performed a valuable service here, and if I thought for a minute it was safe to leave my property, I'd try to thank him or her personally. I sleep soundly at night (using my long beard as a blanket, p. 87), content in the knowledge that I've done all I can to protect my family and me from Y2K: The Coming Crisis.

It is in the top seven books about Y2K in my opinion.
This is MinnesotaSmith, author of a Y2K website. I am proud to know J.C. Cunningham as a friend. His book is one of only seven (out of the hundreds currently available) books related to Y2K that I have classified as "must-buys" on my website. It covers practically every topic you will have to consider for getting your family to the other side of Y2K, and gives you numerous leads to follow to go further. There are many resources listed both to obtain goods and additional information. If you think there is any chance Y2K could be much of anything at all, you should obtain this book.END

Put this book in your reference library and refer to it.
Having read this book, amongst others, I have found that you could replace the "Y2K" in the title for any natural or man-made disaster and still have all the basic information you and your family need to survive. As a former SERE (Survival, Escape, Resistance, Evade) graduate and instructor in the U.S. Armed Forces, I feel that this is one of the best, if not THE best book, of the "Y2K" books around. It covers a myriad of topics so that you are not limited to a narrow range of information for a specific scenario. If you believe that TEOTWAWKI is upon us then this for you. If you just believe that Y2K is a minor 'blip' in the history of mankind it will help you prepare for almost any emergency or disaster, such as, power outages, hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, etc.

This is one of many 'Survival' books that I have in MY library and I feel that, page for page, it holds it's own with those books written by wider publicized writers.

Get it, Read it, Put on your shelf, Refer to it, Recommend it!

The only lighting foundations book you need!
Stage Lighting Revealed: A Design and Execuation Handbook is absolutely perfect for both the novice or the experienced lighting technician/designer. Because the book covers all three aspects of stage lighting, it is absolutely perfect as a book of foundations for theatrical lighting. All sections are explained clearly and in great detail, assisted by the use of comprehensive photographs, diagrams and illustrations. As well, it is not outdated like many other lighting books on the market. For anyone interested in theatrical lighting, YOU NEED THIS BOOK!

WOW! Amazing Introduction
Recommended to both beginner and intermediate users in stage lighting, this book is what got me started! After reading tons of other books and finding myself nowhere, this book revealed everything. A++

A most helpful introduction to the basics of Stage Lighting
I knew pretty nothing about stage lighting beyond making sure you were in the lights when acting on stage, so when I was suddenly teaching a Drama class and putting on one-acts for the entire school, I knew I needed big time help. Glen Gunningham's handbook was exactly what I needed, a clear and concise primer. Part I deals with Lighting Design, covering the basics of design layout, color and positions. Part II details the Equipment of the trade, from Lamps to Par Lights to Followspots, Ellipsoidal and Fresnel Spotlights, Scoops and Striplights, as well as basics on electricity, wiring and special effects. Part III focuses on Lighting the Show going through all the stages of production. Above all, Cunningham explains the basics so that even beginners like me can get the job done and not embarrass ourselves in public. "Stage Lighting Revealed" helped me big time.

Excellent book on the Fundamentals of Kickboxing
This book is creatively crafted by Peter Cunningham and Robert Mickey. It is a great primer on the basics of kickboxing and chapters include information on conditioning, getting started, striking techniques and much more. The book isn't just full of photos teaching the reader how to make each movement. No, this book is much more. There contains much information on the ends and outs of this sport.

This book reads at a ninth grade level which widens the appeal to teenagers who have had some karate training and may be looking to expand their knowledge into the sport aspects of kickboxing. Adults in the martial arts (like myself) should enjoy this book as well. Cunningham has done a great job and deserves a lot of credit for this publication.

A must for kickboxers
Like most martial artist, I did some soul searching before I found my art. I bought a lot of books, on many styles. I ordered this one, and it made my mind up for me. This is a THE book for anyone interested in kickboxing.

Extremely Fun and Helpful
This book is a must for those people who are interested in doing kickboxing, whether they are newcomers to the sport or intermediate fighters looking for great knockout techniques. The book is written in an easy to understand format with photos showing how to execute the kicks and punches. Before I read this book I knew nothing about fighting. But within two weeks of practicing these techniques I felt confident that I could defend myself if the need arose.

A collection of intelligent and informed essays from the late, lamented magazine. Not necessarily for the casual fan, but rabid BB admirers will find tasty food for thought in these pages.

Over forty articles, essays & reviews with critical analysis
Don Cunningham and Jeff Bleiel edit Add Some Music To Your Day, about analyzing the music of the Beach Boys. Over forty articles, essays and reviews provide critical analysis of albums and songs in a coverage which will delight Beach Boys fans. A highly recommended pick.

Great Read!
Don Cunningham and Jeff Bleiel have assembled some of the best Beach Boys writings here in this book, "Add Some Music To Your Day." I wasn't around to read these the first time in the "Add Some..." fanzine, but this is GREAT stuff. BRAVO!

A Guide Worth Following
This is easy to read narrative story will hold the reader's attention well. The author shares stories of situations in which he successfully discerned the "voice of God" and other times when he failed. He examines both his successes and failures and brings the reader to an understanding of the principles by which each one of us can learn to listen to "God's voice" for personal direction. That fact that he shares his failures with the reader lends even greater credibility to his successes. This is the first book I've read by L. Cunningham, but not the last. I recommend the book to anyone who is honestly seeking God's direction in his or her lives. It doesn't give pat answers and formulas, but it does offer biblical principles that have been tested by others throughout the centuries and today, as Cunningham attests to in the book. The guidance of God will take you closer to the heart of God.

a modern classic
This book show what might happend when you let God take controll in your life. A bok about a modern pioner and hero Loren Cunningham.

It has impacted my life so much!
In fact I have the urge to read it over and over again that it becomes an important guide in my walk with God--not to make it like the Bible, but the message of the book itself is a revelation to me. Thanks Loren and Jannie.

Phonics They Use, 2nd edition
As I write this, this book is on back order. This is a great resource for primary teachers who would like explicit information on how to do a word wall and use many activities for using word families, etc. to teach phonics. But don't bother waiting for this book to be available again. Get the 3rd edition! It's worth the extra money. I purchased the 2nd edition several months ago, but when I examined the 3rd edition at the library, I noticed there seem to be many more activities and games for teaching phonics. The 3rd edition easily gets a 5+ star rating from me. It would be an invaluable resource, especially for new teachers! Making Words, by Cunningham and Hall is a good companion if you need help with the making words activities.

Phonics We Can All Use!!!
This book is full of great activities and strategies for teaching reading. It is not like the typical phonics lessons found in workbooks and basal series. You won't even know that you are teaching phonics! Who ever thought it could be fun! The kids love it and the teachers who use it do too!

Phonics They Use
I too had this for my reading methods class. I totally agree with the other responses. It is an excellent reference book

Mystery
Arthur gets called down the principal's office one day and the principal gives him a large envelope to give to his mother when he gets home. However, because Arthur does not want to get in trouble he does not give his mom the letter until much later that night. All day long Arthur and his friends try to come up with creative ways for Arthur to loss the envelope. I like this book because it teaches the child a lesson, by using ordinary everyday occurrences. I also enjoyed the creative ways the characters made up of how Arthur could loss the envelope. In the end Arthur learns that even if he might be in trouble, his parents can't help him if they do not know what is wrong.

A teriffic book to the beginning of the series
This book has a teriffic, funny storyline. If kids read the books in numerical order, this one is sure to get them inspired into reading Arthur. I highly recommend it to everyone.

Good mystery
I really liked this book because I didn't know what was going to happen until the end. I really thought that Arthur was in trouble. It's a good mystery and you have to read it to find out what it's about. I'm not going to tell you.

The Essential Sea Kayaker: A Complete Guide for the Open Water Paddler, Second Edition
Published in Paperback by International Marine/Ragged Mountain Press (06 December, 2000)

Amazon base price: $14.95
Used price: $10.17

Average review score:

Essential, though perhaps not complete
I don't know if I'd agree with the subtitle; Seidman's guide is by no means complete (for that, see Dowd's "Sea Kayaking") but it certainly does cover the essentials of the sport, and as others have noted, it is certainly sufficient to introduce a newcomer to all the essential techniques needed to get started. While no book is a replcement for a good teacher, Seidman gives you enough to get out and teach yourself basic strokes, braces and perhaps even rolls- though that's something best seen demonstrated first.

The photos are one of the strongest parts of the book, and a good argument for buying it- next to the "Perforamance Sea Kayaking" video Seidman's book has the best illustrations of basic moves to be found anywhere. If you were only going to buy one kayaking book, this would not be a bad choice- but after working your way through it you'd be well advised to move on to more detailed and specialized books as well.

The Best on the Market
This is the best general kayaking book on the market today (2001). Covers the range of the activity. Enjoy.

Very well written and informative
I got into sea kayaking after reading this book and it is all the author said and more. I've lent this book to a number of friends who are now also "hooked". This is an easy to read book, one that evokes the possibilities of kayaking along with information necessary to develop the confidence to make them happen. I highly recommend it to anyone considering this great sport.
