My children love it, but complain it is not up to date.
This junior dictionary is ideal for 8 to 12 years old kids, ithas everything they need at that age. The dictionary is built in sucha colorfull way that is easy for them to find the words and their different meanings with examples, homographs, homophones, idioms and inflected forms. Pronunciation keys are presented at the botton of every right hand page. A new edition is required to update the new countries and world map. The price is a real bargain.

Excellent!!!! And offered at an unbelievable price too!
I wanted to get a more advanced dictionary for my 3rd grade son since the current Children's Dictionary he has often did not contain words we looked up. At first my Children's Dictionary search did not bring me to this book. But I read a review which recommended this dictionary. It was by a 5th Grade Teacher (Shannon Bradford), who also has her review here. I did my own comparisons of about 4 different dictionaries I found in my search. Using just the online reviews and descriptions, I decided to go with this one. When I received it, I was SO PLEASED! The book is so interesting. The beautiful color pictures and overall layout makes it interesting and fun to lookup words. Just flipping through it makes you want to stop and look at the pictures. I would have paid twice what I did for it. ...

This is the best Children's Dictionary for 8 - 12 year olds
I'm a 5th grade teacher. I've used and compared many different dicitonaries. The Thorndike-Barnhart Junior Dictionary is the best by far that I've ever seen.

Recently I decided to buy dictionaries for my class. I looked at over 20 different student dictionaries. Some of the dictionaries I looked at were Merriam-Webster Children's Dictionary, MacMillan Dictionary for Students, American Heritage Student Dictionary, and Scholastic Children's Dictionary. None of these held a candle to the Thorndike-Barnhart Junior Dictionary. I took a list of over 200 words that my students couldn't find in our current dictionaries and I looked them up in each of the dictionaries I compared. There were two things I was looking for. First, I wanted to know which dictionary had most of these words. Second I wanted to know which dictionary struck the best balance defining the words in such a way that my students could understand them without loosing meaning or using langage that was too difficult for my students to understand. The Thorndike-Barnhart Junior Dictionary was the best in both categories by far.

There is also a Thorndike-Barnhart Intermediate Dictionary. It has the same words and definitions as this dictionary but also includes a bunch of extras (maps, lists, and such) but costs almost twice as much. If yo've got the money to spend, it might be worth it, but the price seemed high to me for what additional information it offered.

Good Resource
This book is a good read. I recommend it for the individuals interested in history, collaborative arts and innovative ideas and techniques in the performing arts.

A perfect reference for American Modern Dance
Art Performs Life is a unique and authouritive guide to the works and view points of todays most prominent 3 American Choreographers. It emphasizes on the collision of dance and life. Their view points on the gendering of dance and technique are stated clearly. The political and social agenda the choregraphers use and their individuality in representing life on stage using major issues is brilliantly represented in this book. It is a must have for anyone interested in modern dance

An easy reading exploration of the New Testament
For those who desire to delve more deeply into the Jesus that the New Testament is all about, Phillip Cunningham's "A Believer's Search for the Jesus of History" is a real boon. Going directly to the primary researchers and authorities publications is like reading a doctoral thesis on cryptography, tedious and obscure. Because of his experience in working with college students as a Newman Chaplain Fr. Cunningham has the ability to examine the authorities and extract from them the real meat and sinew of their works and reproduce it in a form that can be easily read and understood. From this book the ordinary reader will gen an understanding of who Jesus was, where he came from and what his world was like. Much of the New Testament becomes more understandable and appreciated after you finish this easy reading book.

Hard to put down. Easy to read high density information.
The Table of Contents promised an exciting menu and the book delivered.I like the short, *get-to-the-point* presentation. Easy to read and digest. A good meal. I have avoided "religious" books because they seem to bog down in Old/New Testament quotes. One gets the feeling that writers are afraid they will be thought of as "anti-Bible" (burned at the stake?) if they don't throw in 10 quotes per page. Cunningham tells it like it is. Book gave me an entirely new perspective on history of religion and Christianity.

Culture and Values: A Survey of the Western Humanities
This is a very good book for introducing students to art, literature and music from the beginning of the Renaissance until the 1990s. Many illustrations are included which help the reader comprehend what the text is saying about works of art. Selections from works of writers studied are included in the back of the chapters in which they are mentioned. However, no footnotes, commentaries or definitions are included in these selections by the authors, which may sometimes be frustrating because some writers are harder to understand than others. As a student who used this book in my humanities class, I would have to say that overall this book is an excellent survey of humantities because it provides good information not only about the writers, artists and musicians but also a good background of the social/political events of the times during which these people lived.

Great Book For All Interested Western Civilization
I, as an undergraduate student studying culture and civilization, was very impressed by the content of this title. It covers everything from the effect of the Mona Lisa on society to Guernica. It goes into great detail about how art, music, and archetecture has affected society throughout modern times. The quality of the book is unprecidented as the photos and painting prints in it are beautifully presented in a very aesthetically pleasing fashion. This is a must buy for all interested in the affect of the arts on society and culture. As this is the only textbook that I am keeping this year, I completely recommend it for those who may not be taking any subject associated but are just interested in its subject. If I could I would give it 1000 stars.

D20 Worldbook needs cleaning up.........
Basically, this Worldbook has a few flaws. It could have used a section of exactly which races in the book are playable PC races and which are not. Also, while the book deals with the prestige classes in the 3rd edition DMG it doesn't deal with the races and monsters in the Monster Manual and Player's Handbook (particularly the Dwarves, Half-orcs, Half-elves, Elves, Gnomes, and Halflings, I assume that from reading the book that none of these races exist in Diomin or perhaps the are on a different continent). It also includes a new character class, the shaman, and rules for dealing with spirits and 3 new character races.

Fortunately these mistakes have been cleared up with thier free release of Outpost Qether on the company's website.

Overall, this is an interesting book, but it neededsome clearing up of the materials contained within it.

A Great World!
I have had so much fun running this game with my Nephew, who is just coming out of Pokemon. He loves it, I love it, Role Playing is really a way we can relate to one another

Dream a little dream with me . . .
Fortunately for us Llewellyn has purchased the rights for this book by pagan favorite, Scott Cunningham. Previously published in 1992, this book went virtually unnoticed until now. Scott wrote with his usual ease, making what seems so difficult to so many, so very easy.

This book covers the history of dreaming. That's right dreaming does have a history, a very long one dating back to the Summerians and Egyptians. man has always been both fascinated and baffled by his dreams, that which is produced by the unconscious mind. Around the world there have been dieties dedicated to the dreamtime and to astral travel.

This book is a wealth of information of this particuliar subject. Included are lists of deities and symbols, dream rituals, dream spells, and more. What I really liked is that Scott did not do the usual dream interpretations such as a dove means peace; if you see a boat, you're going to travel, etc. This type of noncense is most annoying to those of us who are awakened dreamers. It is really appreciated when you find a book that deals with the subject on a very real level, acknowledging the individual and the messages that they receive from the spiritual realm. If you buy this book don't forget to have your dream journal handy!

A Great Book
I've had this book of Cunningham's for a number of years and have had very good experiences using it. I think it is one of his best books, and am very pleased to see it in print again. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to work with dreaming. It is a very beautiful and informative book.

Those Other Christians
Here in the West we tend to think of Christendom as being Protestant and Catholic, but there is a whole other world of Eastern Orthodox believers out there that we generally know little about. Most people probably gain their first reading exposure to this group through the works of Timothy Ware, which actually contain more information than this book, and comes up to current times. Though Cunningham's work is shorter, and pretty much restricts itself to the time between 330 and 1453, it does have the great advantage of containing a large number of beautiful full color photographs. These make the art, architecture, and locations of the Orthodox world of Byzantine times come immediately alive. The text is introductory, but hits all the important points of the history, politics, sociology, and culture of the times. It is a little thin on the theology, though there is a very interesting chapter on the worldview of the people. It is a good start for anyone looking for an easy to read introduction to the life and faith of this overlooked world.

Great Introduction and Beautiful Layout!
I was so happy to come across this little gem of a book. While not exhaustive, it contains 11 chapters that clearly and simply outline the general flavor of Eastern, Byzantine Christianity. The author includes a variety of extended excerpts from primary sources, maps and beautiful photographs that really bring the subject to life. The layout of the book is what will win you over. Really well done! This is the main advantage of the book over similar titles. It is true that there is not the depth of theology that one would find in, say, Jaroslav Pelikan's "Volume Two of the Christian Tradition", nor in Timothy Ware's "Orthodox Church", but this book would certainly be the best companion to them. You really won't go wrong buying this for yourself or an interested friend. Enjoy!

my review
This book was easy and fun to read!I reccomend it to any person or child!

My Daughter Thinks this is Pretty Good
My daughter told me about this book and how she thinks it deserves "4 stars". She said that this book was about the Aldens (also known as the Boxcar Children) and how they get new neighbors. They make friends with the neighbors and start to build a treehouse. They discover something mysterious while looking out of the treehouse. She wants me to read the book to find out what happens. The book didn't deserve a five-star rating because she found it not to be as exciting as she hoped it would be.

one of the best boks have ever read
The Boxcar Children and the Mystery of the Tree House was a very good book to read. When the Boxcar Children get new neighbors they help them build a tree house. The neighbors have insisted on getting a spy glass for the tree house. When they find the missing spy glass they look through it and find a mysterious room from the people that were there before them. Read this book when you get the chance to you'll love it.

great as a resorce but short on biographical info
Humphrey Bogart was my movie idol beginning when I was in my teens (about a dozen years after he died). I read what I could about him and, of course, did my best to see all of his movies. Over the years my interest in movies expanded to include other actors and subjects. At the same time, the late night TV movies showed fewer and fewer "old" movies so my Bogart movies seemed limited to "CasaBlanca" and "The African Queen". Not a bad couple of movies to watch but too limited to live out my Bogart mania. Thus I looked forward to reading "The Ultimate Bogart" when I saw it in the book store. I enjoyed how it brought back my enthusism for one of cinema's great actors. However, I felt that the book was overloaded with too much trivia; especially the unneccessary information about the expansion of Bogart's legend after his death. The author categorizes his chapters which has the unfortunate affect of repeating a lot of information that fits into more than one such category. What we come up short on is more information of a biographical nature. There is a great filmography and Bogarts fans will enjoy the trivia tests. There is also a very good bibliography. However, I can't recall the last time I got excited over a bibliography.

This is a book for Bogart fans but they will already know most of the information. At least they will have a guide now as to where to turn for more.

The Man was a True Original
He is without a doubt one of the Coolest Cats to Ever be on the Big Screen.I have seen many of His Movies&He had a Edge to His Craft.this Book Explores His Rise&the way He went about things.some very Interesting things are mentioned.I enjoyed all the info.

Here's lookin at you
I guess Jack Nicholson is the closest thing to him today. But if you're hoping that this book might serve as a how-to-be-Bogart book, you're mistaken. There's much more to Bogart than a cigarette and Fedora. I guess it's something you either have or don't have. It's what makes each of us unique. He wasn't exactly a handsome man, but he sure had presence. But if there was a how-to-be-Bogart book, this would be it. It's like the Bogart almanac. It has all the dates, the statistics, the quotes, the films, the radio programs, the plays, and the television appearances in glorious detail. If you're a Bogart fan, this book's for you. If you aren't a fan, this book will make you one. Oh, and you should also see Casablanca.
