A Different Sort of Refresher Course
Honestly, I picked up this book because of gorgeous reproductions. And because it focuses on English institutions and art--not my strongest suite. But each chapter not only refreshed my basic knowledge of art history but reminded and educated me of the many factors that play into the shaping of the discipline, from royal schools to government decrees. Most interesting was the way the authors researched how museum collections are formed by not only taste and education but also politics and monetary factors. These should be obvious, but sometimes the cleaness of an exhibition wipes away the history of why an artwork was chosen, why it is displayed in a certain manner, and why a museum may, or may not, promote their collections.

Dated, but still useful to specialists.
This slim book provides a one-stop reference for those researching the work of (mostly) American canon lawyers between the end of Vatican II (1965) to just before the publication of the 1983 Code of Canon Law. The annotations are somewhat uneven in quality, but remain generally useful.

An outstanding General
General Bruce Cooper Clark met with us at our reunion in Knoxville, TN in 1974. Of course he had his book for sale and autographed it for all who purchased it. He was highly complimentary of the job that my unit the 275th AFABn did in defense of St. Vith. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee. His book is very interesting and he says his armored tactics were designed for the Single wing Football formations that the University of TN made famous under General Neyland their long time football coach.

Concise Review Book is a Great first start!
This is a new book, published in 2003, a companion of sorts to the Intensive Review of Internal Medicine built as a study guide for the Pediatrics Board Exams.

The book is broken down into 5 major categories, including General Pediatrics, GI, Nephrology, Endocrinology, Neonatology, Cardiology, Allergy, Neurology and Child Development, Genetic and Metabolic Diseases, Adolescent Medicine, Infectious dissease and Immunology, Hematology-Oncology, Pediatric Surgery and Board Simulation. In addition the book includes a small set of color thumbnails for photos of common pediatric diseases and skin conditions.

Overall, the readability of the book is excellent and many of the topics are explained very clearly, for example, the endocrine chapter explains the spectrum of adrenal diseases in under 5 pages, highlighting the important points of Adrenal Cortical Deficiency, Adrenal cortical failure, etc. Each major topic includes epidemiology, pathophysiology, history and physical, diagnosis and treatment sections that makes each section very readable.

The chapters are subdivided into major topics, that cover topics in short, succint, easily digestible paragraphs, and are supplemented by many graphs, tables and charts. I did find a few of the graphics in the cardiology chapter a bit dated, and it would have been nice to have seen a more consistent graphic style throughout the book. In addition, since most of the photos are in black and white, some of the finer details are difficult to see, especially chest x rays and skin findings.

Some chapters seem more geared toward patient care than board review (which doesn't mean they not well written) and spend more time in detail that is not likely to be emphasized on the boards. It would have been nice to have included "boards pearls" or "hot topics" or "frequently tested material" more heavily highlighted in a book that is written for board review. Most of us are looking for a "First Aid for the Boards" type of book for Pediatrics, and this doesn't quite fit that mold. (There is probably no easy "shortcut" type book on the market, yet)

At the end of many of the chapters and sections are a handful of review questions to grill you in the basic subject areas. While most of these test relevant material, the question style is not exactly in line with the style of the Pediatric Board Exam.

That being said, this book makes a terrific general study guide. There is currently no other book available that does so much in as little space. You're not going to be able to read or carry around a Nelson's when you study for the boards, so this book is good for the major topics of each subspecialty.

In addition, this book provides many easy to read a chapters that highlights many important subspecialty areas. More available on the Medfools website. This quality makes it a great "pre-read" before each subspecialty elective in pediatrics that you may complete during a Pediatrics residency.

Excellent for the entry level ophthalmic photography
This book is well organized and easy to use. As an ophthalmic photographer of 21 years duration I can attest to the quality of the information presented. I have personally purchased this book for my staff as a reference guide. The illustrations are excellent; albiet, they suffer a bit in the printing process. This is a must have for any ophthalmic photography suite!

Good info
The info in this book is very good, if just a bit out of date. Since this deals mainly with things that don't change much, being a few years old is not a big drawback.

Of the areas I am familar with, this is right-on, so I expect the same to be true of the rest of the book... I am anxious to use it for more exploration.

Great tool for teaching
I use this book to teach video screenplay techniques to high school students. The shots list and storyboard are very clear, and students find them easy to follow. The book is great for teaching students to understand the level of detail needed to produce a great video product.

An early chapter in the Three Oaks series
John Cunningham has been invalided out of the army. He caught a tropical virus while serving in the Falklands War. With his pension, savings, and a partner, he is striving to make Three Oaks Kennels a going concern. He trains the dogs, his partner Isobel handles them at field trials, and Beth, John's significant other acts as both kennel maid and nursemaid to them both. In this novel, Beth's uncle, the famous artist, George Muir, is killed in an explosion and has left Beth a painting and his Labrador puppy, Jason. John and Beth travel north to collect both and visit with the widow, Aunt Hattie. John isn't satisfied that the explosion was an accident, and notifies the local police, but doesn't tell Beth or Hattie. Other family problems arise involving the inheritance and Muir's other paintings.

There is more than enough going on in this mystery to keep anyone happy. Family squabbles, murder, swindlers, and goodness knows what else. I was a little offended by the author referring to Beth as John's mistress, but other than that, I enjoyed the mystery thoroughly and hope to work my way through the whole series.
