The Haynes manual is a very good text when it comes to working on and maintaining your Z car. Since the book focuses strictly on the 280ZX, it is easier to use, thus providing more information than the Chilton manual (which covers 240Z-Z31).

This book helped me Find and repair quite a few problems that would of ended up costing me hundereds of dollars to get fixed. Exaample: Oil Leak in head. Pictures should me where every nut and bolt was to remove and replace parts was a snap with the correct name of the part.

good book if you have some knolage about cars(terms). the only thing that is lacking is specs like horse power and gear raitos (braging rights)

For anybody out there who has any interest in the Datsun L series motors, 510, or 240Z, this book contains some great information. The emphasis is heavily placed upon engine modifications for racing, but tips on street oriented engine modifactions as well as some tips for chassis setup are also included. The highlight of this book is the thorough insight given to building a highly toleranced / tuned L series motor, but includes techniques that can be used for almost any motor. The information could do with some updating, as it mostly relies on 1970's techniques, however the book still stands tall on my book shelf.

Lots of good stuff, needs to be more obvious about each model.

Love the book, however the different models are not differentiated well, so you really must read carefully.

Chiltons just tried to fit to much into one book. If your going to get a book get one that just covers the Z that you have. There is little to no detail in the interior/exterior part of the book. I was disappointed with this book in comparison to other chiltons books

I regret the purchase of this poorly organized manual in which there is an attempt to encompass to many vehicle types in one manual. the information has too many gaps for even experienced mechanics. if you have ever flipped through a Clymer manual published by intertec you will understand truly sensible organization of a technical manual. i only wish one was available for the Z's. don't waste your money on this book.

When you are desperate and do not have (or cannot afford) a factory manual, you take what you can get. Typically Chilton has adequate wiring diagrams and vaccume diagrams although I have found omissions that will keep you troubleshooting for weeks like an inline fuse. You will not find the detail of a factory manual such as the resistance operating ranges of sensors, computer logic, or a detailed assembly view of a transmission. They have nice sections for aspiring shade tree mechanics such as a body repair, and some basic theory of operation. You cannot expect explicit detail from a manual less than three inches thick which covers a complete historical line of any model of automobile.

I'm looking for a copy of the original Datsun shop manual. NOW THAT'S A REAL MANUAL.
