Niece and Her Mom Loves It!
I bought this for my ten year old niece who takes Spanish in her fifth grade class. She loves it, and I know this will make all the difference in her ability to access the language and learn. Her mom said the book is really great, and I wouldn't be surprised if my three-year old nephew makes some use of it too.

The best ever...you can find it here!
I am buying 3 more copies of this book for fellow teachers in my building.

I find the book easy to use, up-to-date, and a handy reference on any spanish word.

The picture are real life situations from computer usage, to apartment rentals, to a visit to the beauty shop..all in pictures and the Spanish work for everying associated with the picture.

An invaluable guide for the classroom or any one who want the Spanish word for an every day item or life experience.

I'm trying to get the district to order them for all the teachers in my school as well as all schools in the district.

I'm sold.

A Fantastic Resource!
I teach an adult ESL class and have discovered that this book is a resource I really cannot do without! In combination with the teacher's manual, it has become a valuable resource for teaching new vocabulary to my students. When I first started using it in my lessons, the students skimmed through it and were very impressed with the variety of pictures arranged by themes. After using it at home, they have ALL told me that it is a wonderful book and are so thankful they have it!

A cover-to-cover thrill ride!
This book had me biting my nails from start to finish. I couldn't put it down. You won't be disappointed!

Joel Siegel knows accounting terms like nobody's business. Once I picked up this book I was locked in until the hair-raising finish. Want to know the definition of "Z Score?" You'll have to read it yourself to believe it!

Buy this book!

Good for all people, accountants and non accountants!
A dictionary of accounting is the best idea for an accounting reference book! And above that, it was done very nicely as well!

If you're an accouting student, a professional accountant, or encounter a few accounting terms every once in a while, then this book is great for you! It's very comprehensive and informative!

A great value for your money!

VERY VALUABLE SOURCE FOR QUICK LEARNING
I found this book to be very valuable in looking up terms I had forgotten when asked by my assistant who is taking accounting classes to become a certified accountant. As the company I work for is a small business, often I take for granted the accounting principles I use daily for over 30 years. What they may mean to a person who is learning from me and how I can teach her is different than what is taught in many classes today. This book is a quick reference to explain what I am teaching her, plus what she is learning in class. I purchased this book for my assistant and after reading through it I ordered another for myself. I highly recommend this book to have in every office and for any student. I have found no other book to be so concise and helpful for quick reference. You will be glad you have this book in your library of accounting materials.

Dictionary of Mathematics Terms
Published in Paperback by Barrons Educational Series (November, 1987)

Incredibly handy
One of the best pocket sized mathematics references I have found all around.

Concise, fluid easily readable reference for students
A great bridge between a sometimes confusing text presentation and conceptual understanding. I will recommend Barron's as a must for my Algebra 1,2 and Honors students. Barron's is a valuable supplement for any secondary or post secondary mathematics program, keep it by your side.

An EXTREMELY useful pocket sized reference for the sciences
I am a second year Math/Physics student in college and this book is an invaluable resource for just about any formula, trig. subsitution, integral/derivative identity, mathematical terminology or concept in general. If you've ever found yourself searching for some mathematical expression, or the meaning of some obscure symbol, chances are it's in this book. Breif, clear, and concise definitions along with simple, yet descriptive visual aids. A must for any undergraduate science student.

A Dictionary of Syrian Arabic: English-Arabic
Published in Paperback by Georgetown University Press (December, 1964)
Authors: Moukhtar Ani and Karl Stowasser
Amazon base price: $27.50
Used price: $25.00
Average review score:

Your guide to Syrian Arabic
This book is superb. Its biggest plus is that it uses thousands of real-life examples of sentences in Syrian Arabic and demonstrate how words are used. It is designed to be a guide to speaking Arabic on a conversational level, and is replete with colloqualisms, figures of speech, and idioms. It is well worth the money.

It works
A good transliterated dictionary of most of the words you'll ever use.

great book
This is a very good dictionary for the Syrian dialect. It includes broken plurals and it uses most of the words in sentences. Some might complain that it is not written in the Arabic script, but I thought the notation chosen was helpful for pronounciation. One downside is that it is not totally comprehensive, but it contained almost all of the words I wanted to look up.

The Dictionary of Wordplay

Author: Dave Morice

The 'Must-Have' Dictionary of Wordplay
Dave Morice's latest book, The Dictionary of Wordplay (Teachers & Writers), is his seventeenth published effort to paint the alphabetic rainbow of the amazing English language. Previous works include eleven volumes of poetry, four books on wordplay and writing, three on cartooning, and a book on computers.

Why a dictionary of wordplay?

"Wordplay is always just a word or two away from the words we speak, hear, read, and write," Morice writes in the introduction to his dictionary. "It is present in the home, the school, the office, the store, the streets. It's on television all the time, especially on ABC."

He got the idea for a wordplay dictionary while editing the "Kickshaws" column for Word Ways magazine. The more familiar Morice became with contemporary wordplay, the more it seemed inevitable that he should write a dictionary. Surprised none had been compiled, he morphed the appendix to his doctoral dissertation-"Wordplay in Children's Picture Books"-into an appendix of wordplay terms that eventually grew into a full-blown dictionary.

With the recent publication of The Dictionary of Wordplay, Morice has given life to an astounding work. Indeed, The Times Literary Supplement of London, in a rare burst of approval, calls it "The most ingenious publication of the century so far" (TLS, March 23, 2001).

The Dictionary of Wordplay is for all lovers of language. For die-hard crossword puzzle workers, jumble fanatics, or Scrabble players as well as writers, educators, and linguistics, it's a "must-have" for the home or office reference shelf. Here are some samples from the 1,234 entries:

· Charade: A set of words formed by re-spacing-but not rearranging-the letters of another word, phrase, or sentence:

BEDEVIL = BED + EVILPLEASURE = PLEA + SURE CRUMBLED = CRUMB + LEDCHICAGO = CHIC + AGO

·Exquisite Corpse: Three or four players write an article and an adjective on a sheet of paper and then fold the paper to cover the words. The players exchange papers, add a noun to the new paper, and fold the paper again. They repeat this procedure with a verb and then with another article and adjective, and they finish with another noun. The results are read aloud to general bafflement.

·Hidden Middle Name or Overlapping Word: Take a person's first and last name and see if the letters join in the middle to form another name or word: oMAR SHArif, daLE Evans, ezRA Pound, and hORATIO Nelson

·TWENTY NINE: Write out the number 29 in capital letters: TWENTY NINE. Then count the number of straight lines in the number's name. It's the only number that counts the straight lines in its name. There are 29!"

A native of St. Louis, Dave Morice lives in Iowa City, where he earned an M.F.A at the renowned Writers' Workshop at the University of Iowa. He is presently at work on the ever-expanding second edition to The Dictionary of Wordplay as well as The Dictionary of Incredible Words. His poems and cartoons have appeared in hundreds of magazines and newspapers, including The New York Times, Word Ways, and The Actualist Anthology. Such disparate publications as the Village Voice and The Wall Street Journal have featured him and his work.

Lovers of word games and other forms of word and letter play should also check out Morice's Alphabet Avenue: Wordplay In The Fast Lane (Chicago Review Press)-353 pages of palindromes, word and letter puzzles, anagrams, panagrams, and puns-and The Adventures of Dr. Alphabet (Teachers & Writers), which presents 104 unusual ways to write poetry in the class and the community.

A smorgasbord of language
The dictionary of wordplay is a totally different kind of dictionary. You can read it at any point and discover something you didn't know about language. It's more fun to jump around in it instead of gulping it down all of it at once. It is like a smorgasbord with many, many different types of food. You will get to sample such delicacies as bananagrams, flip-flop definitions, hyperhyphenation, Kangaroo words, no-word alphabets, Romantic numbers, sex change charades, stinky buzzwords, truthful numbers, and zazzification. I specially enjoyed searching for other kinds of palindromes ( my favorite since I first heard about them from a teacher in grade school), because they appear in different places as well as under a palindrome.

how do words play?
Reading a dictionary may not sound like a lot of fun, but this is a book you can pick up & start reading anywhere. Morice appeals on many levels, but behind it all is the way that he is thoroughly enjoying himself & his work. The perfect book to read during lunch hour on an impossible day or to keep on hand as a mental pick me up. A reference book written by a gifted story teller.

Dorland's Medical Speller rocks!
This book was purchased for a hospital radiology department including transcriptionists with as little as one year and as many as 19 years' experience. We love it - it has come in handy many times since purchase!! We highly recommend it for use by transcriptionists in any genre.

Dorland's is a Dream !
Dorland's Medical Speller is a must for every medical transcriptionist. Even though this book is in dire need of new publication because so much has been added in the last 9-10 years, it is in constant use in our hospital medical records dept. It has become so worn from use that we have had to punch holes in each page and place them in a 3-ring binder, BUT it keeps on keeping on !!

Top of the line reference book for medical transcriptionists
I have been a medical transcriptionist for going on five years and I have used this book more than any other reference book I have. It has more "word power" in a single volume than any other I have come across and is well worth the price!! I started working in a hospital as a transcriptionist and then branched out in other areas of medicine when I went to work for a national company and this book has been a very big help in that transition when doing unfamiliar work types. If you are in the medical transcription field, you will never outgrow this wonderful reference book!!

Dic Larousse Concise Spanish-English English-Spanish Dictionary
Published in Hardcover by Larousse Kingfisher Chambers (April, 1998)
Authors: Larousse and Larousse Lkc Publishing
Amazon base price: $18.95
Average review score:

Excellent Spanish (Spain) to English (England) dictionary
This is not my first Spanish-English dictionary, and it certainly won't be my last. My 1994-1997 copy of the Larousse dictionary is concise and very legible, well laid out and easy to read. It is suprisingly comprehensive for a pocket dictionary, and I can usually find the translation I am searching for.

Unfortunately, I am an American studying Mexican spanish, and this dictionary often leads me astray as it is written for English people studying Spanish from Spain. My favorite obscure reference is for "lollypop lady", hardly a coloquial American phrase, and English definitions for Spanish words are occasionally equally baffling unless you are fluent in "English".

An excellent dictionary for people interested in cross-cultural study.

Another must for Spanish students
If you are serious about studying spanish, this book is for you. There are so many words and plenty of cultural information about Spanish-speaking countries. The price is great for such a complete dictionary. This book is equally as good for Spanish people trying to learn english.

Not totally comprehensive, but still excellent
If you have an interest in Japanese cooking, this book is a must. The dictionary does not contain every ingredient, utensil and dish that may be found in Japanese cuisine, but it makes a valiant attempt to do so. Entries are listed with a romanized pronunciation as well as the Japanese characters, sometimes with several variations of how to write the same term. In addition the excellent appendices explain in detail how such staples of the Japanese kitchen, such as shoyu and katsuobushi, are made and used. An invaluable reference for anyone who does not read Japanese at native-level fluency.

An absolute gem of a book, comprehensive and enlightening.
It is unique in a field that is not well documented in the English language. The main body is a Japanese-English dictionary of Japanese foodstuffs. Entries go: Japanese name in romaji (Roman alphabet), kana, kanji, (Chinese characters), then the English translation, then any scientific name. Each definition is several lines long, including details of preparation, culinary uses, and cultural, regional and seasonal notes. The book is profusely cross-referenced and illustrated in black and white. There is an Engish-Japanese glossary at the back and seventeen appendices covering key items such as katsuobushi, miso, Buddhist vegetarian cuisine and so on in greater detail.

This is not a cookbook, there are no recipes or instructions. Rather, it is a treasure-chest of culinary detail, illuminating a great deal that was previously hidden. The Japanese cuisine is vast and varied, but largely mysterious and unknown outside Japan, because there are very few definitive books written in languages other than Japanese. I am not certain that a comparative book exists even in Japan; it was compiled from Japanese sources but some of these were very old or quite obscure or scholarly. I can recommend it to anyone who knows anything about Japan or Japanese food and wants to make a quantum leap of knowledge and understanding.

Dictionary of Misinformation
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Ballantine Books (October, 1980)

Interesting facts...........
Pick this book up at a library if you can find it. Well written and informative -- however, the book is showing its age. It would be nice to see an update of all the current misinformation out there.

I did not know that!
To imagine that one can swear that a person (Bismarck's famous blood and iron quote) said a certain thing (and to this with conviction) and then to find out that it was in the wrong order and to find out that the term lucifer fro Satan can not be found in the bible. Highly Recommended.

The Best Of All Time!!!!
This is the best single book that has ever been printed. By opening up the book for about thirty seconds each night I have been able to "Astonish my friends and annoy my enemies," exactly as it is stated on the cover of this book. This book it priceless, I of course only paid 9 cents for my copy, but after reading it I found that I had just made the best buy of my 14 year life!!!

Dictionary of Premillennial Theology
Published in Paperback by Kregel Publications (September, 1996)
Author: Mal Couch
Amazon base price: $16.99
Average review score:

It Should Be Titled Pre-TRIBULATIONAL Theology
This book is well written and contains much useful information for those interested in it's subject matter. To the best of my knowledge all of the contributors are pre-tribulational. This book is very much prejudiced in favor of Classic Dispensationalism, and therefore of a necessity the pre-trib doctrine as well. It would have been MUCH better if it had contained a positive description of all other pre-millennial positions (MID-,POST-,PARTIAL-,PRE WRATH, etc).

Great Premillennial Reference Work
This is a must for every believer that desires a better understanding of eschatology (the-end-times). It is an accurate, articulate, easy to use, and much needed reference that can be used by scholar and laymen alike. When you come accross something your not sure of and want info, it's here from Abrahamic Covenant and Babylon to the city of Zion, and everything in between.

A Rare Gem!
A concise but complete reference. Quickly becoming a "frequently used" eschatology source which does not sit idle on my shelf. Definitely a 'must buy' for those studying the Rapture. John O'Brien Baptist Missionary in Kharkov, Ukraine
