Word differences
This is the only book from Longman I would have ever considered buying. I love it and I have recommended it to all of my students and most have purchased it and they also find it useful. This useful little book shows you the differences between words. For example. hotel, motel, inn, etc. Only buy the English version of this book. There is a Chinese version available but the translations are terrible.

Chock Full of Anything You Want to Know about L.A.
If you can think of anything you'd ever want to know about Los Angeles, chances are you will find it in this book, and in DETAIL. I was hard-pressed to find anything missing that I knew about as an Angeleno. Historical entries include L.A. water czar William Mulholland, the Chandler families, the histories of movie theaters and many, many more pieces of information. A great book for those fascinated with L.A. history.

THE BEST BOOK ON LA!
This is without a doubt the best book ever written about L.A.! It is amazingly comprehensive and virtually teams with fascinating stories on every page. Great for reading in bed before sleep. For every Angeleno, especially those unlucky ones who are far from home, this is a welcome companion. You will love it!

Excellent resource
My wife bought a copy of this book for me as a birthday present, and I love it! This is an excellent resource for understanding the details, history and current state of Los Angeles City and Los Angeles County. I hope the authors will consider producing a companion volume to this work, perhaps called "Orange County A-Z".

A rare jewel
This book is hard to find and I am surprised that Amazon has it readily available.
It really is a rare jewel of a dictionary and though it has no projects the directions are simple and easy to follow and very inviting. Other contenders in this space are A-Z Embroidery and Lucinda Ganderton's offering. This book is better than Lucinda's in showing the finished product; all are standouts.

Beautiful book
I really like this book. It has beautiful pictures and it's informative. I never knew there were so many different kinds of embroidery stitches. It will be a great reference guide.

Fantastic book.
I bought this book for all the great photos in it. It is so nice to see the stitches on fabric and in color. This makes it so much easier to use your imagination to create beautiful textiles. The book covers all types of embroidery from pulled fabric stitches to canvas stitches and everything in between. There are very nice diagrams and explanations of all the stitches. It is a very easy and informative book to use for everyone from beginner to experienced embroiderer.I would highly recommend this book to anyone with an interest in this art form.

McClane's New Standard Fishing Encyclopedia and Internationa
The book is the best in its field, as it contains plenty of information for the casual fisherman or for the expert angler.
Unfortunately is somewhat outdated. Great book that every angler should have in their library/

This is THE must have book for any serious angler!
I have been an avid reader of A.J. McClane for some years now and have found this volume to be the best of the best. It is in my opinion the most detailed and factual reference to be found on catching fish. Of particular value is the section on angling methods which clearly explains the various means by which you can catch your quarry. Any fish, anywhere in the world can be found in this book along with it's life cycle, spawning habits, how to catch it and weather it is good to eat. No angling library is complete without this valuable reference.

excellect reference book for the novice or pro fisherman
A MUST HAVE BOOK, if you have a library of your own or not this is it, I have used this book many times when I go to a new area, state, location, or wherever, it tells where, when and what is needed, its great, one problem I found is I lost it now I cant find it and am lost without it. I have over 75 other books on fishing and this one I miss the most!!!

Every Home Needs The Medical Advisor
I bought The Medical Advisor in 1997 and it's one of the most important books I own. I use it to look up my symptoms whenever I get sick and check out all my medicine in the large drug reference section. This book is wonderfully comprehensive. Each topic is covered in four pages or less. In ten to fifteen minutes you find out what you need to know. The text is well written and consistently uses language everyone can understand. That's why every home can use The Medical Advisor.

Great Reference Book
Im 16 years old and interested in being a doctor. This book has a lot of information ranging from an atlas of the body to what to do in certain emergencies. But the main part of the book is an alphabetized index that explains in detail things from bee stings, to pneumonia, to back pain. It shows conventional methods along with alternative methods like acupressure and herbal remedies. This is a great book to have around the house and doesn't cost as much as some medical books do.

Just what I've been looking for!
I find this book to be incredibly helpful, packed with information that is organized in a clear, concise, and well-organized manner. I am a librarian, and really appreciate a truly useful reference book! It's great for giving general overviews and is also very easy to dip into when a specific need arises. I've found it helpful in answering questions about my small children's health as well.

Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, Deluxe Audio Edition

For users with the hard drive space ...
In addition to the authoritative, comprehensive nature of this audio CD dictionary/thesaurus, the Merriam-Webster electronic dictionary has an advantage (over American Heritage, for example) that I was able to copy the pronunciation files "by hand" from the CD ROM to the default loading directory. Therefore, I can use the dictionary full-featured entirely off hard drive C:, which frees the CD ROM for concomitant applications such as background music accompaniment. Note that this comment applies to my current version, which is 1.5 (I am buying a newer version now).

Reliable Dictionary
I can find all words that I need here.

Actually, I thought this was great
I just wanted to say that I've been using this software at work (with Office 2000, on a computer with a Pentium III) for a while now, and so many people have been using mine that we're ordering more copies for everyone else. I've never had a problem with it and the one time I had to call tech support, they were extremely helpful. The MW link did indeed work. Love it, love it, love it. My assistant is getting it for his kids.

Lots of Content
The Merriam-Webster's dictionary of allusion has far more information than the Oxford Dictionary of Allusion. In addition, the allusions are more contempory than the Oxford. Over a week's time I read the dictionary from cover to cover. I came away with a week's entertainment, a better understanding of some phrases, and understanding of some phrases I had totally misunderstood for years. A fine book, I wish I had bought a hard cover edition.

This book is fun.
I own this book and have given copies away to family and friends. Most people who pick this book up and open it to almost any page will learn something, be reminded of something they forgot, or maybe get straightened out on a misconception they had. Rarely will they put it down without having enjoyed the experience.

When was learning ever this much fun?
Open Merriam-Webster's Dictionary of Allusions to any page and you're bound to learn a thing or two..or three...or more. You'll also smile at the journey that brought you to new insights. The authors have done a masterful job of illuminating the language with scholarship and wit. So much brighter, lighter, enlightening and fun than most reference books--but no less useful.

A great gift for yourself or a friend who loves Mexico!
This wonderful book is written by someone who obviously knows both the country and its food-everywhere. It's amazing that so much food information could be packed in a book that fits in my pocket. This little jewel is essential for traveling in Mexico whether you think you know the food or know for sure that you don't.

There's no book like it!
Heaven help the hapless traveler who wanders off to Mexico without this enormously helpful book. I thought I knew Mexican food until I used the Hungry Travelers- Mexico. What a resource!

Plan to eat when you travel? This book is a must!
As fun to read as it is accurate, packable and irreplaceable, The Hungry Traveler for Mexico is the right book for anyone who enjoys eatings as much as traveling. The book is as much an appetizer for travel as for dining; I wasn't sure whether I was salivating more over the descriptions of the food or the thought of being in a place where I could eat such things. Forget your Spanish-English dictionary (it doesn't have important food terms anyway), and tuck this delicious little culinary guide into your pocket. The pronunciation guide is extensive and exact, and Marita Adair not only knows food, she knows Mexico and she knows travelers. It's as if you've found a good friend to eat out with--she won't lead you astray. You'll eat well using this book, you'll learn the nuances of dining in Mexico, and you'll find the way to the heart of the country.

Milady's Skin Care and Cosmetic Ingredients Dictionary
Published in Paperback by Milady Publishing Co. (April, 1994)
Authors: Natalia Michalun and M. Varinia Michalun
Amazon base price: $36.95
Average review score:

Absolutely the best reference book on cosmetics ingredients
Let me tell you, this book is worth every dollar, do not be scared off by the price! Over 2,000 ingredients reviewed in an easy to comprehend way, you don't have to be an expert in chemistry to find out what exactly is in your favourite cream - effective ingredients or just pore-clogging chemicals, preservatives and irritants! There are also 3 chapters on skin physiology, product penetration and skin types and conditions. I would highly recommend this book for consumers, cosmetics sales people and estheticians.

Wonder about all those ingredients? Milady has the answer!
As a former aesthetician and current president of a vitamin and nutritional company I am well accustomed to using chemical, pharmaceutical, and medical reference books for formulary research and scientific information. Most of these books are extremely technical and difficult to understand. Milady's Skin Care and Cosmetic Ingredients Dictionary is the exception.

Milady offers one of the most comprehensive and easy-to-use guides to understanding what is in every bottle of cream or cosmetic item that you use.

This book will allow you to make informed decisions about what skincare products to buy and most importantly what each ingredient REALLY does, along with any negative side-effects. Whenever we begin formulating a new product, we always consult
"Milady."

Do you know what you REALLY cleanse your face with?
An EXCEPTIONAL reference books / ingredient dictionary!
Have you ever wondered what those ingredients in your cleanser or make-up REALLY were? Now you can find out.

This comprehensive book not only includes an extensive list of ingredients and their uses/definitions & more...

(AN EXAMPLE: "linoleic acid (vitamin F) - an emulsifier. ...prevents dryness and roughness. A deficiency in linoleic acid in the skin is associated with symptoms similar to to those characterizing in eczema, psoriasis and a generally poor skin condition. ...is an essential fatty acid found in a variety of plant oils, including soybean and sunflower." )

...but the book also includes a chapter on skin types, conditions and appropriate ingredients for treatment that would provide a quick reference so address your (or your clients skin care needs), a thorough explanation of how chemicals and ingredients interact in cosmetics and more!

I HIGHLY recommend this book to skin care professionals and beauty connoseurs that want to know the "insider secrets".
I will never go a day of work (as an aesthetician) without this book!

Musical Terminology: A Practical Compendium in Four Languages
Published in Library Binding by Pendragon Pr (July, 1999)
Author: David L. Boccagna
Amazon base price: $11.00
Average review score:

Great book for all musicians
This is a great book for all classical musicians: obscure musical terms are clarified, and the French and German translations are extremely helpful when performing imported music or original type editions of Saint-Saens and Wagner.

Musical Terminology: A Practical Compendium in Four Language
The Musical Terminology is necessary for every performing musician. It will be his resource for understanding what the composer required in the performance of his composition.
The Compendium is thorough and the cross referencing in four languages makes it unique.

Indispensable resource in four languages for all musicians
As a musician and performer it is often difficult to translate musical instruction and intent due to the use of foreign language and antiquated terms in the music scores. I purchased this compendium in hopes that it would provide a quick, efficient manner in which to translate the words and intent and it did! This is by far the best collection of music terminolgy that has ever been created and a true asset to music perfomer, teacher or student.
