Terrific!!!
They say this book is designed for older teens or young adults. So how come an old guy like me read it enraptured and learned a lot! This is a very strong and well written book that will give you all the basics about tribal, ethnic and cultural differences, customs and habits. If you are interested in native Americans, but are not yet an expert, this is your book.

A complete and easy to use guide
Ever wondered if there were differences between the Apache and the Navajo, the Cheyenne and the Sioux? Did you know that many of the names we have for tribes were ones used by other tribes or by the white man? Learn what the different native american tribes called themselves, their sacred rites, their style of warfare- even what the tribes are doing today. This is a great tool for the novice since tribes are listed alphabetically, not by classification (such as Southwest, Plains, etc.). The only possible drawback is the generalization of the California Indians. This is a definite must have in any historian's library

Good reference - great authors
This publication provides a very useful reference for many areas of physics. The bibliographies at the end of each section serve as a starting point for further research in the particular subject.

The contributing authors of this book are impressive, e.g. J.D. Jackson (Classical Electrodynamics), H. Goldstein (Analytical Dynamics), E.C.G. Sudarshan, etc.

A Complete Course in Physics
Most comprehensive text on physics seen to date. Excellent reference on virtually any area of physics. Deffinitely not an introductory text, but intended for those with a fairly solid background in mathematics and physics, ie. scientists, engineers or the very serious amateur. Plentiful photos, charts, diagrams and supporting reference material. A must for anyone employed in this field or with a keen interest in physics.

Encyclopedia of Strange and Unexplained Physical Phenomena
Published in Hardcover by Gale Group (April, 1993)
Author: Jerome Clark
Amazon base price: $112.25
Used price: $56.36

Excellent tool for people interested in unsolved mysteries!
Finding unsolved mysteries to be quite interesting, I therefore had to examine and study this title in question, i.e.,Encyclopedia of Strange and Unexplained Physical Phenomena by Jerome Clark. In here one will find out about lost dinosaurs, hair ape like creatures and other odd and mysterious items and unsolved mysteries. Recommended.

Spooky!
If you're into UFOs, physical anomalies, psychic powers, cryptoterrestrials, the reality of myth, the world's most inept hoaxes, or anything else that qualifies as weird, this is your book! Jerome Clark presents more information and research on most of the entries than any other source I've read, and he even has a bit about why some people are believers and some people are skeptics. Many of the entries are of such obscure occurences that even me, the paranormal buff, haven't heard of. Great for amateurs and pros of the field alike.

Encyclopedia of the Blues

You won't get the blues from buying this book
I have the hard-to-find first edition of Gérard Herzhaft's Encyclopedia Of The Blues, the one printed in 1996. It is worth finding if you can. If not, this edition (which I am trying to decide whether to buy or not) may well be as good or better than the first. The first edition has over 500 pages, but fewer photos I think. Gérard Herzhaft's Encyclopedia Of The Blues is the most accurate, in-depth, and comprehensive collection of Blues musician information I have been able to find anywhere in the past 6 years of being an active Blues fan. I wish Gérard would know how much his great work is appreciated by all of us Blues music fans in the USA and the world. Thank you Gérard.

Solid, comprehensive survey of major blues artists in all fi
I write as a blues fan of forty years standing in order to assure folks that this French fellow knows his stuff. When I first heard about this Encyclopedia 8 years ago, I was concerned that it would be another effete European effort to convince Americans that they have no taste.

Au contraire! This is the first survey-type of blues review which does justice to disparate blues streams such as blues shouters (barely touched on in Cohn's book) and boogie woogie, as well as Delta blues and obscure East Texas singers of the Twenties.

The Encyclopedia is well-organized, with fine summary essays on various blues streams so that the reader can follow developments on different fronts without having to turn back and forth between essays on individuals. There is a generous serving of individual biographical sketches as well, and Gerard does us the favor of pointing out when certain blues artists are following in the footsteps of others.

He also does a good job of including glancing references to less well-known blues artists who are worth investigating later in yours blues journey.

All in all an excellent reference work with plenty to interest the casual blues fan.

All I ever needed as a child
Ok. So this was written by Dad and my Grandfather, but it still absolutely rocks. I used it loads as a kid and it was always better than some of the other, more sedate, and therefore more boring, children's dictionaries.

What a great little dictionary
I cannot believe this book is a `hard to find' item. It is so well written and beautifully presented, a must for all children.

I think is the most modern & full English-Russian dictionary
I think is the most modern and full English-Russian dictionary on computer sciences. It is the unique modern English-Russian dictionary, which one is constructed on a classic dictionary system with enlarged vocabulary entries. All remaining dictionaries are constructed simply as the lists of the words with translation (For me at home and on work is 7 miscellaneous English-Russian dictionaries on computer science. I can compare.) The dictionary system with enlarged vocabulary entries is very convenient for search of word collocations and typical phrases. I also have purchased this dictionary as electronic dictionary Polyglossum. It even more conveniently also is more robust, as I have received for the same money also possibilities of the Russian-English dictionary on computer science.

English Slovak Dictionary
Published in Hardcover by Bolchazy Carducci (September, 1991)
Author: Jan Simko
Amazon base price: $60.50
Used price: $53.00
Average review score:

One of Jan Simko's greatest accomplishments
For 20 years, Slavic readers had to do without an available, in-print edition of Jan Simko's comprehensive English-Slovak dictionary. Despite its original sell-out of its first 3 editions (in 1967, 1968 and 1971) in Bratislava, the publishers refused to issue reprints until Bolchazy-Carducci publishers picked it up in 1991 and re-released it in its original format. My own copy of this dictionary is from this 4th printing in 1991. Printed in "Czechoslovakia" (Bratislava, to be precise), the book's cover and pages have a different feel to what we Americans may be accustomed to, but it is a high-quality, durable product and compact enough to travel around with you. Like its myriad of fans will attest, this dictionary is indeed comprehensive: the largest English-Slovak dictionary ever. Simko worked on this 1450-word dictionary from 1955 through 1965--a true "labor of love," he attests. A word of caution, however, to novices: the dictionary provides only English-to-Slovak translations and pronunciations and not vice versa. Hence, be forewarned that this is not a typical "look-up-a-Slovak-term" dictionary.

A useful dictionary oriented toward British English
This large dictionary is very useful as it appears to be the best available English to Slovak dictionary. Its draw backs include mediocre paper and a strong orientation to British English. It contains many words (1 or more per page) that are not current in the US. These draw backs are more than compensated for by its comprehensiveness.

English Swahili Dictionary

The most complete English-Swahili dictionary I've found
Unfortunately for those of us interested in Swahili, so few references exist. However, this one is worth the price tag if your idea of a dictionary is Webster's unabridged version. I admit I was confused at first by some of the meanings of the english words, until I realized that this is not American english. But I consider that an added bonus - learning two languages for the price of one! Now if only I could find such a concise Swahili-English dictionary....

Wonderful!
This is a fantastic dictionary! By far the best english-swahili dictionary around. I strongly recommend to anyone planning to learn swahili and even to those already familiar with the language. This is not only a dictionary to look up words but also a dictionary to actually sit and read and learn new things from. Super!
