ENGLISH-ARABIC& ARABIC-ENGLISH DICTIONARY: AL-MAWRID AL-WASE
I HAVE BEEN LOOKING ALL OVER FOR A DICTIONARY TO HELP ME WITH MY ENGLISH. NOW I CAN UNDERSTAND ALL OF THE MEANINGS THAT THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE HAS. IT HAS HELPED ME ALOT. I RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE WHO NEEDS TO LEARN ENGLISH WITH THE HELP OF THE ARABIC WRITING TO MAKE IT MORE CLEAR.

THIS IS WILL BE YOUR BEST RESOURCE IN ARABIC
I've been using AL-MAWRID since I was a medical student early in the seventies. Since then Al-MAWRID has been very useful to me in translating several documents/books into Arabic and publishing more than 100 manuscripts on topics such as health, science, history, medicine, psychology and other areas. The dictionary covers all the needs of any reader regardless of their areas of interest. It is an excellent resource for Arabic speakers and non-indigenous speakers. As well as being very easy to use, it provides a broad range of definitions and synonyms for each word. AL-MAWRID is an essential resource on my desk and I highly recommend it to you.

Better than Loeb 94
Everything said in my review of the first 6 books in Loeb's Martial I No 94) is true with greater force here. Book XI is the peak of the poet's nasty, often obscene, humor. Again, the 1993 translation is much more timely than the previous Ker edition by Loeb in the first part of the century. Reading this shows that in spite of almost 2000 intervening years, the crudest elements of decadent societies still run closely parallel. Read it, you'll be amazed.

Very funny
These short poems are laugh out loud funny. This is a very readable translation. Forget that these are considered "classics." There is nothing stuffy about these ribald, sarcastic, hilarious poems about Roman life. It is amazing how little people have changed! I spent a very enjoyable afternoon reading through these.

Hongul is fun!
Like the first review says, if you learn the Hongul alphabet(and I assure you it is easy), then you can read the language and you can speak in no time. If you want a dictionary that says it all and is concise down to the most difficult words and thoughts, then buy this dictionary. When you have been in Korea and know what the culture is like and try like hell to fit in by using the language, you can't go wrong with this dictionary. Jin-chao!

EVERYTHING I EXPECTED!
THIS IS THE BEST KOREAN DICTIONARY I'VE SEEN. IT'S WELL WORTH WHAT I PAID FOR IT. IT LISTS LOTS OF DEFINITIONS AND IS VERY THOROUGH. I ESPECIALLY LIKE IT BECAUSE OF ITS EXPLANATIONS AND EXAMPLES OF HOW TO USE THE WORD IN A SENTENCE. BY THE WAY, THERE ARE TWO VOLUMES: ENGLISH-KOREAN AND KOREAN-ENGLISH, BOTH AROUND 3,000 PAGES. YOU CAN SEE HOW THOROUGH THEY ARE. I HAVE THE ENGLISH-KOREAN ONE AND PLAN TO BUY THE OTHER ONE SOON. ANOTHER THING I LIKE IS THAT THERE ARE NO ROMANIZATIONS TO MESS WITH. IF YOU LEARN THE HANKUL ALPHABET, LEARNING TO READ IT IS EASY. GREAT DICTIONARY!

Etymological Dictionary of the English Language

Best Book for English Language Research
The Etymological Dictionary of the English Language is the best book of its kind. If you're fascinated by where words come from and what other languages English is rooted in, you'll love this concise dictionary. Great for researchers, teachers and students alike!

Rich reading
This is the pinnacle of 19th century Philology. The edition with which I'm familiar refers to "indo-aryan" roots. Undoubtedly, some of Skeat's misconceptions have been corrected, but the wealth of information here is amazingly interesting reading for anyone interested in the whence of English

An Excellent Reference for Lawyers and Non-Lawyers
The bulk of A Practical Companion to the Constitution is in dictionary form and provides throrough but concise accessible explanations of the key concepts and terms of art of constitutional analysis. Each entry is also cross-referenced with other related concepts and definitions to aid the reader in fully understanding the concepts discussed. Professor Lieberman also places each entry into a historical context so that the reader may trace the development of doctrines and concepts and understand not only where a doctrine originated but where the state of the law or doctrine stands today. For example, under the entry for "Incorporation Doctrine," Professor Lieberman provides us with a brief explanation of the concept, and then traces the concept through its history and application. At the end of the entry, we find a list of which amendments have been incorporated onto the states, the rights implicated in the incorporation, and the year the amendment was incorporated. Indeed, I was most impressed with how Professor Lieberman has throughout the book explained the abstract concepts of Fourteenth Amendment analysis into easily understandable terms without oversimplifying or doing violence to the concepts. Other sections of the book provide summaries of the cannons of constitutional interpretation so that the reader has a basic understanding of the tools of textual interpretation. Finally, Professor Lieberman provides a thorough table of cases and brief biographical sketches of the justices who have served on the Supreme Court. I give this reference book my highest recommendation. It is a must for law students. It is an excellent resource for lawyers looking for the vocabulary to explain in accessible terms the abstractions of constitutional analysis. It is invaluable for the non-lawyer seeking to understand better the constitution.

An invaluable book by a great teacher
Professor Lieberman teaches Constitutional Law at New York Law School. I was privileged to study under him in 1998. He is an immensely knowledgeable man with an unmatched talent for clarity of communication. I am pleased to be able to recommend this book to all readers. For further insight regarding our highest court, I also recommend New York Law School's Dean Harry H. Wellington's very fine book, Interpreting the Constitution: The Supreme Court and the Process of Adjudication.

THANKS FOR THE "A" MYRNA!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Before I bought "Exploring Medical Language" I knew absolutely nothing, and I mean nothing about Medical Terminology.
And to tell you the truth, when I first opened this huge, intimidating, monster of a book, It scared... me... I mean, wouldn't "rhabdomyosarcoma" or "esophagogastroduodenoscopy"
frighten you (just a bit) I thought, nooooo way.

But I opened it, read it, did the cool excersises, listen the the audio tapes, played a bit with the CD-R.

She begins at the beginning.....Little baby steps.

All of a sudden... I was like, I get it! I really get it!
Not only that, but I was beginning to enjoy it.

The prefix, suffix, and word roots suddenely become beautiful, flowing words that make sense.
Myrna LaFleur Brooks made this book come alive, interesting, and allowed medical language to become a little bit like music.
Well, a little!!!! Thanx for the "A" Myrna!

This text is invaluable
I'm currently using this book as a supplemental text for my paramedic training. We've just finished cardiology, and I couldn't have done it without this text. I already owned Phalen, Dubin, and Huff; all are good, but the Huszar text is now the one I go to first when I have a question about ECG's. There are a multitude of practical illustrations, tables, and review questions. Best of all is the 200-and-some strips for practice in the appendix. Highly recommend!!

An excellent way to improve your abilities in French
I highly recommend this set of CD's. They provide an excellent way of increasing your comprehension and speaking skills. I listened to them for hours while driving in my car which presented a wonderful opportunity to increase my comprehension and speaking skills greatly. The conversations are organized around relevant practical situations with French speakers of varying accents. Each conversation is followed by oral practice drills based on varying grammatical issues and important practical phrases. I really think that those who devised this course did a truly outstanding job. If you drive frequently these CD's provide a particularly good opportunity to learn French.

Finally! A good, intermediate level review set! CDs a plus!
I am a teacher (not of French obviously!) but I studied four years of it in high school and college French and never really learned how to speak much. I have searched for and tried many intermediate level "how to" sets for French and this set is the best I have found so far.

It has about 16 lessons with a dialogue of 3-4 minutes and then 10-15 minutes of various drills. The book does not "teach" grammar, it assumes that you know about 2-3 years of high school French. The dialogues seem faily up to date and interesting. For me, this set was at just the right level. Others always seemed to be for beginners or way too advanced. I know there is a big market for this beyond-beginner, but not too advanced level, but few book/audio sets are there.

One of the BEST features is that it is on CDs rather than cassettes. This is a BIG plus. Often, when I want to go back, I just want to hear all the dialogues again, or just do all the drills again. With CDs, you get right to the place you want to be. ALL language sets should be this format. Wake up, all you publishers out there!

The only thing this set should do differently is to create a little more space in the drills and have more of them that are just a bit easier. Most students just need more, more, more practice speaking, speaking, and speaking.

A Lot of Useful Greek in a Short Time
In preparation for a trip, I checked out several book and tape courses in Greek. The Hugo course struck the right balance between total immersion on the one hand, and just learning select phrases on the other. This series will give you a quick grounding in the language though it is not as complete as the Barron Foreign Service Institute tape set. The Hugo audio quality is much better than Barron's, and the speakers are quite a bit friendlier. (The Barron series sounded like it was recorded in a garage and the speaker was about as friendly as a police interrogator).

After working with these tapes for about two months I went to Athens. I'm pleased to say they worked. People could understand me without trouble. However, one gentleman asked me where I learned Greek. I sounded like I was stuck in the 1950s. Perhaps it is the difference between Katheravousa ("official") and Demotic ("popular") Greek. So, I may have sounded a little stiff, but most everyone understood me.

The bottom line: this is the best Greek tape and book course I found for someone looking to learn a lot of useful Greek in a short time. Highly recommended.

Learn Greek the right way!
I have searched for a book/audio course that would teach me the language rather than help me memorize phrases. All the packages at the library were for travelers so they could make sure they "get a room with a bathroom." I wanted to learn the language to be fluent. This book/audio teaches you the language! It includes exercises, both written and oral, as well as an essential grammar section. The four accompanying tapes are very well done, easy to understand, and follow the 290+ page book. If you're looking to learn the language, you can't beat this course for the price!

Science does fascinate me¿
Even though I seem to remember being rather distracted in school because I was one of the only girls in the science class. Things have changed now in the modern world.

I'm not exactly sure where all the other girls were, but perhaps their parents didn't see the benefit of sending them to learn about Electromagnetism. Personally, I was more interested in chemistry.

The Eyewitness Visual Dictionaries are fascinating. Who would ever want to read just a normal dictionary ever again? Which is why I have a DK Oxford Illustrated American Dictionary now as well.

Contents: Matter & Energy, Measurement & Experiment, Forces, Friction, Simple Machines, Circular Motion, Waves & Oscillations, Heat & Temperature, Solids, Liquids, Gases, Electricity & Magnetism, Electric Circuits, Electricity Production, Electromagnetic Radiation, Color, Reflection & Refraction, Optical Instruments, Wave Behavior, Atoms & Electrons, Nuclear Physics, Particle Physics and Formulas & Appendix.

Interesting section on Nuclear physics and "How a Television Works."

Includes:

Over 200 outstanding color photographs and graphic illustrations
Concise text and carefully researched definitions
Instant access to a 3,000-word specialized vocabulary

This volume is part of a series which I love and can't imagine is not loved by readers of all ages.

physics today
In todays society, where education should be and is at the forefront, a book of this type will not only captivate a young mind but answer question which may not be readily available to a parent. In education the 5 -14 program has developed a system where children can be assessed through practical skills and knowledge. A book such as this can and will aid, in that understanding. In other publications, the author's may have to reminded that their readers are not of the same standard, of understanding as they are, everyone has there own particular way of understanding text and experiments. Books of this nature can only aid, in the development of a child understanding of science and technology.
