RECOMMENDED Russian language DICTIONARY AAA+++!...
About necessity of such dictionary wrote still issued Russian lexicographer Vladimir Dal (Author of Large dictionary -lexicon of Living Russian language 1886 in 4 vol.). The dictionary is constructed as the ideographical dictionary by Roge. Such dictionary of Russian is issued for the first time. Circulation of the dictionary is only 1000 copies. In Moscow and Russia is a large bibliographic scarcity. The dictionary is well structured. It is possible to call this dictionary as the semantic dictionary of Russian. For example, I very much was helped with an entry "Possibility". A synonymic line is resulted. The examples of usage are given. The associative chain to this word is built and an ideographic line is resulted. Stable word collocations, examples of usages and explanation different of usages also are resulted. Antonyms also are resulted, homonyms and there is a lot of other useful information. The whole page of the dictionary is dedicated to this article, which one there is the sizes as a large encyclopedia. RECOMMENDED Russian language DICTIONARY AAA+++!...

GOOD dictionary for the teachers of Russian, stjudents, lingu
The excellent dictionary for the teachers of Russian, students and linguists. Is constructed on associative - semantic communications. In one dictionary article: a synonymic line, antonomy-line, dictionary of compatibility, numerous examples and ideomatical combinations and phrases. The excellent dictionary. It is very a pity, that has not purchased the dictionary earlier! This dictionary very much helps in my activity of the computer linguist.

This reaches right into daily life--it's a great teacher.
I have lived in many Latin American countries, and now can speak Spanish on a level that I can reasonably be understood and understand. But I am still trying to learn the Spanish idioms that each country has----and I have wondered, after reading Ms. Watkins' book---why someone has not written a similar book for those with Spanish as their second language. Her book is so to the core of American culture, that it makes it so much easier for someone learning English to pick up phrases, sayings, different meanings to words that couldn't be translated literally, and thus land on their feet running without having people listen to stilted, foreign-like phrases. This book should be used in every Institute or class that teaches English as a second language. I have taught elementary and junior high classes, and if I were to go back to teaching, and could teach English as a second language, this would be one of the first books I would use.

Learning American idioms has never been this fun.
Ms. Watkins' combination of engaging activities and intriguing visuals makes this text a real treat to use in the classroom. Students are too busy having fun to realize that they're learning idioms along the way.

What I especially like is the way The Idiom Advantage uses clever print advertisments to help expand the students' understanding of the idioms. The ads even provide a platform to discuss some broader, cultural issues which can be especially important for ESL students.

This is definitely one of the best idioms texts I've seen.

GORGEOUS BOOK!
This book is wonderful! Visually stunning, some of the pictures are enough to make you drool! Filled with extremely well photographed color and B&W photos of museum quality pieces, used to illustrate the jewelry terms being defined. The definitions are well written, and reference related terms in a very smooth and easy to follow way. This book is a MUST if you are fond of jewelry! MORE than worth the money!

The BEST jewelry dictionary I've seen so far...
From A to Z, the best jewelry dictionary I've seen. Aside from looking something up, it gives you the opportunity to learn terms you've never heard before. Even if you've been in the business a long time. Fantastic. Every antique lover should have this book!

ranges of meanings of mythic images
WYBIWYG what you believe is what you get; somehow this idea developed in my mind after studying intensely the Illustrated Dictionary of Mythology by Philip Wilkinson; fortunately my mind was flexible to the concepts of mythic images by virtue of my hero, Joseph Campbell, and by being a penpal with his co-author of Mythic Images, MJ Abadie; however i [small ego] was still a little unprepared to the individual diversity of who the idol was [is?] and exactly what they did or what the meaning of their image is in the current people holding those ancestral images; and these people may still reside in their ancestral homeland where the 'comfort' of sharing these common, though personalized, meanings with living elders, who may have spun the mythic web with childhood bedtime stories; and CERTAINLY unprepared for the INTENSE desire to defend ANY intellectual assault on the images or simply on the rebuff of NOT including that native people in a forum DEFINED to focus on a specific other native people ??? so in this milieu, i appreciated the simplicity and even generality of Wilkinson's definitions; stay flexible cultural anthropologists! LOL

an excellent research source
I recently used this book for a research report on number symbolism. While becoming familiar with the text, I realized that the book contained extensive information on all symbols. After the report, I decided to purchase the book for future reference. Mr. Cooper did an outstanding and comprehensive job researching all types of symbols. Furthermore, by dividing his analysis of each symbol into different cultures, comparing and contrasting meaning was simple. I am indebted to this excellent reference source.

This is the most thorough dictionary of symbols.
J.C. Cooper's Dictionary of Symbols is the most thorough dictionary of symbology available. For its cultural diversity, clarity, and fairness of discourse it is without parallel. Cooper has been meticulous in her researches providing perspectives from all relevant fields of mysticism. Illustrations are classic rendering an ancient perspective on timeless themes. The dictionary also avoids gendre exclusive language in general while remaining faithful to original systems of belief. A most invaluable source for any work related to symbology, signs, iconic references, religious motifs and philosophical research to name a handful of endeavours that would benefit from Cooper's work. She is without peer in terms of having produced a reference guide that will be used long into the next millenium. A solid, integral piece of scholarship.

Ti Kaimbagan Nga Diksyonaryo Nga Iloko
This is the best Ilocano dictionary out there.

The author's love and dedication to the Ilocano language is an accurate reflection of the hardwork over that years that he has put into this impressive and high-quality dictionary.

Not many dictionaries dealing with Philippine languages are as detailed as this one. And not many go great lengths as to include a meaty grammatical sketch, history, and explanation of pronunciation. However, this one does. And very well, I may add.

This dictionary itself is two sections (English & Ilokano). Ilokano words are listed by rootword along with its affixed varieties and their varieties. Entries usually have a Tagalog equivalent and maybe even equivalents in other Philippine languages such as Ibanag, Kankana-ey, Pangasinan, and others.

Since stress plays a significant role in the meaning of Ilocano words, I am very grateful that accent marks have been included.

I also have to mention a comprehensive appendix dealing with charts of "fused" pronouns and verb affix charts. There are even lyrics to popular Ilocano songs such as Pamulinawen, Toy Karayo, and Tontonennaka toy Ayat.

This book is perfect for anyone; be it a tourist visiting the Ilocos region, a person of Ilocano descent, a linguist, a language enthusiast, or even a Filipino who is curious about the language of his or her Ilocano countrymen.

Also, the covering of this book ensures that it will last for a long time.

As an enthusiast of Philippine languages, excellent resources such as this gem come few and far between. I am completely satisfied with this book, and I'm guessing that you probably will, too.

Most Comprehensive Ilocano Dictionary - Publisher's Release
The Ilocano Dictionary and Grammar is the most comprehensive dictionary ever produced for Ilocano (Iloko), the lingua franca of Northern Luzon, and historically the native language of the majority of Filipino immigrants to the United States. The body of the dictionary includes entries for roots and affixes, with illustrative sentences, idioms, proverbs, common derivatives, and scientific names (when applicable). Tagalog, Pangasinan, Ibanag, and Kapampangan equivalents are supplied for high frequency words. Derived words that undergo morphological fusion are listed as separate entries to facilitate lexical searches. There is also an affix cross-reference list to help the beginning student recognize root words. Sources of loan words are indicated. The Grammar (including Phonology, Morphology and Syntax sections) is an version of the author's thesis "A Reference Grammar of Ilocano" rewritten in a pedagogical format. The Appendixes include grammatical charts, maps and traditional Ilocano songs. Layout of Volume: Intro and Grammar (i-lxxxv 85 pages); Ilocano-English (pp. 1-647); English-Ilocano (647-752); Appendixes and Bibliography (752-777).

Index of Garden Plants: The New Royal Horticultural Society Dictionary

Ultimate Reference
The RHS Index is a must for any hort library. Taxonomy has changed so much in recent years that Hortus Third has long been obsolete. I found this book to be indispensible in my research, aiding me in confidently naming thousands of plants. A real bonus is that RHS has alphabetically interspersed common names throughout the latin entries. No more flipping to the back for a separate index! Worth twice the price.

Essential to any serious gardener
What a great book! I have long sought a book that would provide a handy reference to the extraordinary range of plants out there to help me pick out what will go where in our exurban garden. This book does it. Not having photographs is actually a plus of this volume, as it does not give you an idealized picture of what your gangly specimens will actually look like; the textual descriptions are more realistic, I think.

Ins Dictionary of Neuropsychology
Published in Paperback by Oxford University Press (15 January, 1999)
Authors: David W. Loring, Kimford J. Meador, and David W. Lorring
Amazon base price: $27.00
Average review score:

Good, practical neuropsych dictionary
As a neurologist in training, I found this small book to be quite useful for defining all those terms used in behavioral neurology that seem intimidating. It covers descriptive signs and syndromes as well. A great way to expand your professional neuropsychological vocabulary, if you wish to study it.

A Much Needed Reference
Clinical neuropsychology is in the position of being a very modern neuroscience whose nosology stretches well back into the 19th century. Contributions to the current lexicon not only include 150 years of coining terms and identifying syndromes, but also the modern world of functional neuroimaging, weekly changes in psychopharmacology, wet lab neuroscience finding application in the clinic, and the development of new tests and new constructs. With such diversity of science and scientific terms, it is with relief that this book has finally gotten to press. It should be as useful to students and academics as well as clinicians. Actually, neurologists and psychiatrists should also be intrested. Nearly every obscure diagnosis is included, some with remarks about the scientific proof that the disorder exists added. It is not a DSM-IV for neuropsychology, but it does not pretend to be. An added thought, if you read only 2 pages per day you will be done in 90 days.

The Insomniac's Dictionary: The Last Word on the Odd Word
Published in Hardcover by Facts on File, Inc. (January, 1987)
Authors: Paul Hellweg and Joan Leigh Herder
Amazon base price: $19.95
Average review score:

Browser's paradise
I can't say how many times I've flipped through the pages of this volume. Hellweg has collected a bevy of wonderful words, and has them categorized into fun chapters. You can be astounded by what words exist, and then have fun attempting to force the most unwieldy ones into conversations.

Perfect for word-lovers
Containing weird, wacky, wonderful words of all sorts, the Insomniac's Dictionary is out-of-this-world for those sleepless nights. It's got love and sex words, fear words, food words, word words, any kind of word you could possibly imagine. (Did you know there is a word for "the fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of your mouth"? It's in there!) It is very entertaining, humorous, and great fodder for party conversation. :)
