"My First Book of Words" Is a Winner In Our Home
I purchased a copy of this book shortly after my son was born five years ago. I first started reading this book & pointing out the pictures to him when he was about a year old. It quickly became his favorite book. The pages are all smudged with cookie crumbs & baby drool, the cover is long gone, & the book is essentially being held together with Scotch tape -- which in my eyes is a true sign of love! We now have an 8 month old daughter & I'm hoping I can get a used copy of the book (in better condition than ours) to share with her. I firmly believe that this book helped my son to develop a love for reading at an early age, & I hope to instill the same in his sister.

This book is marvelous!
I checked out this book from the library for my 25 month old twins...and we love it! It is expanding their vocabulary in leaps and bounds, which makes this mommy very happy. I am very disappointed that it is out of print, but hopefully can find it used. I wish I had found it at the library 6-8 months ago when the girls were starting to talk...it would have been even more helpful in the beginning of their language development.

Great for kids of all ages!
My kids have all loved this book from the age of 16 months. Most toddlers love to find the "banana" (or many other items on each page) when asked to find the banana. Every year they will find some new picture that they never noticed before. My five-year old is into "pirate", while my 18-month old loves the "hundred" stars. There is so much to look at on every page! I will give this book as a gift to my nieces and nephews for years to come.

Great dictionary for young children!
The best thing about this dictionary is that it has a picture for EVERY word. It allows children who are not reading yet to identify the words by themselves. In addition, this dictionary is in alphabetic order. I have looked through numerous 'picture' dictionaries which group words in subject (i.e. science, nature, body, etc.) To me, this is confusing if you are trying to truly look up a word. As well as the other 'picture' dictionaries did not have pictures for every word. This is wonderful for my kindergartener to be able to look up words on her own. In addition, her school is working on letters each week and she is able to look up words for the letter of the week to get ideas of items she can bring in! I think this dictionary should be a required book for children starting school, it's GREAT!

Interactive dictionary is perfect for homeschool
I stumbled across this cute dictionary during my first year of homeschooling my daughter. We used it as a supplement when studying the alphabet and words that started with each letter.

Once a week we would get the sticker picture dictionary out and "read and stick" the pages that corresponded with the letter we were studying that week. It was just a fun little thing that both my 3 and 5 year old looked forward to each week.

The book has 2 to 3 pages for each letter. In the upper corner of the first page, you stick on a sticker with both the upper and lower case letter. Then, there are 4 or 5 other stickers of pictures that start with that letter to stick onto a scene of colorful animals doing all sorts of fun things like going camping, going to the circus, etc. The following 1 or 2 pages are filled with pictures and words used in sentences that start with the letter on the first page.

I bought this at a local ... store 3 years ago, so was glad to find it at ... now that my third child is 3 and biting at the bit to do school.

I like sticker books because it gives them something to "do" while reading and learning.

My Sticker Dictionary
I am a Kindergarten teacher in Butler, Pa, and I have used this book for 5 years now. It is a wonderful and interactive way for my students to learn and review their initial consonant sounds. All Kindergarteners LOVE stickers, and this book allows them to not only practice their letter sounds with colorful and interesting characters, but to find and peel off the correct stickers for each page. We do one letter sound a week, and my students always look forward to the day when I say, "Time to take out your Sticker Dictionary!"

Check this review from Library Journal
From The May 1, 1998 Library Journal, p. 92.

Barnett, a lawyer and teacher of political science, has collected mystery fiction with female protagonists for more than 20 years. Here she focuses on those protagonists instead of female mystery writers, as other guides do (e.g. Jean Swanson's By a Woman's Hand, Berkeley, 1996, 2nd ed.).

This book is the first of a proposed three volume work covering female protagonists in detective fiction from the inception of the popular mystery until 1979. Entries are grouped by era (e.g. Victorian, interwar), with an introductory essay describing the political and social background of the era with reference to women.

Each entry describes a female detective (or major female character in a mystery series), the works in which they appear, and the significance of the series or works to the development of the genre. Appendixes list authors with their works and characters, works with their authors and characters, and references sources. A character index to the three volumes would have helped. Nevertheless, Barnett offers a unique and highly subjective approach to the genre.

Recommended where there is an interest in "mystery women" and for readers' advisory services.

An encyclopedia of women in mystery series.
An encyclopedia of women in mystery series, covering up to 1979 in vol. 1, with vol 2 in the works. Includes both well known and obscure authors and characters, with historical survey of how the genre has changed. With bibliographies and commentary.

Can be a training tool
Besides using this at home, I have found it can be used as a training tool in a heathcare setting. Medical receptionists can use it to expand their medical terminology. The easy to use format is great for the lay person or a health care professional support staff. It is great. Coleen, Healthcare Administrator from Seattle.

Review of The New American Medical Dictionary & HealthManual
Robert Rothenberg's Medical Dictionary & Health Manual is a very useful book not only as a dictionary but as a manual covering many health related topics that are beneficial to all health care workers. My Health Careers students in high school purchase these each year for use in class for studying Anatomy & Physiology, using them for term papers, and as reference to the many health related topics found in the "manual" section. My students have found these very useful as I do as a Health Careers instructor. There are many labeled diagrams throughout the text and useful charts in the manual. The easy language this dictionary uses makes it useful to a wide range of health workers. It can be a useful quick reference for a nurse or as a great learning tool for students. This dictionary not only defines words but is a great manual including sections on the latest Medicare guidelines, medical insurance policies, and Social Security programs. As a health instructor I highly recommend obtaining this very useful health dictionary and manual. At this price, no one can lose.

The Best Latin Dictionary for Students
In my opinion it can be regarded as the best dictionary for students and for those who prefer to learn alone. Also it may be sufficient for people engaged in Latin translations. The book contains all the needed declenesions and conjugations tables etc. Nicely printed with reasonable font size, all for a reasonable price that any student may efford.

The Best Latin Dictionary for Students
In my opinion it is the best Latin dictionary for students and especially for those that prefer to study alone. I would also recommend this book for the advancing student and any one who bother himself with Latin translations. The dictionary contains a lot of tables of declensions and conjugations also about irregular verbs and much information in regard to syllabificatin and accent.

MUST READ FOR JAPAN FANS
There is a lot of generic language assistance but little when it comes to specific religious terms. Joseph and Stellwagen have hit a home run with this one. A handy practical "must use" guide for the new missionary or Pastor wanting to make an impact in Japan.

This book will save the newcomer years in language school! Outstanding job gentlemen!

Excellent handy to use book for preachers & missionaries
Even though this book was written a number of years ago I was thrilled to find phrases, ceremonies and Japanese proverbs that were very current and useful. Boy, this is a must read for Christian missionaries or preachers who want to use the correct terminology in their dealings with the Japanese public. Thank you, Mr. Joseph!

Great for every family
This four volume set is very informative and useful. It contains sections on emergency care, women's health, pediatric health, each area of the body (digestive system, allergies, etc). While it does not diagnose, it does give important information on symptoms, causes, and treatments on just about every medical problem. The index is easy to use and comprehensive. I highly recommend this set.

Every family must have this book
I have read the 1992 edition of this book and have had benefits from using it in making a healthy and far-from-diseases family. The most valuable thing in this book is it's simple and non-specilistic language that makes it very attractive and easy-to- understand for any ages. And more, it includes some aricles about mental and physical health that rarely appears in other similar titles. Now, since beeing a scientific writer, I am going to translate it into Persian to be used by more and more families.
