new dictionary for episcopalians
Being new to the church a few years ago, this was a very informative and interesting book. It told history, why things were done. One of the neatest things, was about each season in the church and the different colors used. Great book!

Wonderful tool for new Episcopalians!
This dictionary provides the right amount of detail needed for a new Episcopalian to make their way. It's not so detailed though that one becomes bogged down.

Excellent
This is definitely worth the money. It is a very, very detailed work with many references to things I'd never even heard of. I've successfully used it as a reference for several papers, and recommend it to anyone-- especially classicists who're interested in the finer points of Rome's architecture, geography, and history. This is an excellent way to learn more about less common aspects of Rome, as well as the big things like the Pantheon, etc.

All in all, it's an excellent reference and a great read as well-- I highly recommend it.

Absolutely critical to understanding ancient Rome (the city)
With this magnificent work in hand one can read the ancient historians and understand what you are reading, street by street, site by site. New information and research has been presented in the 60 plus years since the last dictionary of ancient Rome, and it makes this new topographical tome so exciting. If you are going to Rome and have a strong arm as well as a strong interest in what was where and when, then this admittedly heavyweight book will not be too much to take along. Perhaps most fascinating are those wonderful maps which present past and present on sites long lost to the avid Roman visitor. You may not see what was there by looking at the present site, but you can understand what was there better with this book. For the college student who may be planning a career or a deep interest in classical Rome, this book will be worth the price many times over! Best of all is the list of all the classical references for each building, site, or even, in some cases, statues or adornments. This book is more than a gift of scholarship, it is a gift of love of the history of Rome and for all those who will come along in the future to study it.

A beginning for Norwegian and English speaking children
Our church, Gol Lutheran Church, of Norwegian extract of course, has this book in its library. I would like very much to have the book in my own library to help my grandchildren to speak some Norwegian. I am trying to relearn the little bit of Norwegian I learned in College and find the book helpful myself. Norwegian children learning to read would also find this book great fun in reading their own language! The book contains pictures of several items with the name of the item in both Norwegian and English. Items are placed in groups by page and contain sentences in both Norwegian and English

Great for American Grandmas and Norske Barn (or vice versa)
When we moved back here form Norway with a three year old daughter who didn't know more than a few words of English, Grandma had a problem. Hard to make contact with a child you're taking care of when neither of you can communicate. We had bought this book to help Marie learn English, but it turned out to be a tool for Grandma and her to learn each other's language! The pictures are wonderful and you have both Norwegian and English words for each item. It's still a cherished possession.

Norwegian: An Essential Grammar (Essential Grammars)

By far the Best
Åse-Berit and Rolf Strandskogen have put together one of the best organized grammars in any foreign language. Organized by part of speech; it highlights all the basic rules as well as some subtle pearls of the Norwegian language. Not a course in itself, but a wonderful addition to any of the comtemporary Norwegian language courses currently published. I highly recommend it for any level learner.

Good book when used only for it's purpose.
This book is an excellent Grammar book, in fact, language would be easier to learn if a book was made in this format for every language. The Authors, Ase-Berit and Rolf Strandskogen, are professors of Norwegian as a foreign language at the University of Oslo. This book tells nothing about Norweigan culture, it is not a Norwegian dictionary, it alone will not help you learn Norwegian. But, when used specifically for Norwegian grammar, it is the best book you can buy; and because grammar is essential in learning a foreign language, and speaking a native language correctly, this book is a must-have if you are learning Norwegian on your own.

More than just a reference book!
Looking for a great reference book on the JFK assassination? Tired of searching the bookstores? This book takes care of that. William Scott has written the most complete reference manual I have ever seen.

The book is broken down into two parts. Part One is people and places. From A to Z you find out a small snippet of information about everyone associated with JFK or the assassination.

Part 2 has 18 sections of reference information. From books to singed articles to unsigned articles you won't be able to find a more complete listing than right here. The amount of information is amazing.

This book is not a novel or a research project, rather it is a handy reference book that everyone, from novice to expert researcher should have with them at all times.

Guide to finding the reputable needle in a haystack.
Sorting through all the extravagant theories of who killed JFK can become highly frustrating for the Kennedy enthusiast. So many wild ideas have circulated through our modern culture, most evident in Oliver Stone's JFK, that it has become increasingly difficult to distinguish between possible truth and well conceived fiction. William Scott's new Reference Guide does just this for both the serious researcher and the interested hobbyist. Only the most reliable and historically accurate sources have been included in this research guide, so no longer does the JFK assassination enthusiast have to sort through the wild theories to discover the respectable facts. A must have for anyone serious about their research.

Ntc's Dictionary of British Slang and Colloquial Expressions
Published in Paperback by NTC Publishing Group (April, 1998)
Author: Ewart James
Amazon base price: $14.95

The Best of its kind
it is exactly what the title denotes and , what's more important, surely the best around (Believe me I have really searched). Everything that you need to know is here and tons more. Most of the times an 'entry' is accompanied by not one but TWO different examples so that the meaning be clear. The only thing I would have also liked to see would be description of the slang terms using the phonetic alphabet so that one gets the correct pronunciation as well -only for the equivocal slang words really.

Best book of british slang needed when traveling to the UK
This is one of the best slang dictonaries you will need when traveling to the UK. The way it gives you examples of the word being used is very helpful. Everyone should buy this book even if they are not traveling to the UK.
