Solid and comforting
I have an out-of-print second-hand copy of this book. It's a true pleasure to read any day of the year. Like having a country farmer next door, chatting with you across the fence. Borland writes a mini-essay for each day of the year. Whether you're a nature-lover, weather freak, eco-hippie, it does'nt matter; Borland sums up a typical day from a naturalist's point of view. A good companion book to Edwin Way Teale's "A Walk Through The Year". Great for bedside reading every night.

THE BEST WORK ON THIS SUBJECT I HAVE EVER READ.
THE BOOK IS CALLED HANNIBAL, AND INDEED TELLS US MUCH ABOUT ONE OF THE GREAT PERSONAGES OF HISTORY. BUT IT IS REALLY THE MOST DEFINATIVE WORK I HAVE EVER READ ON THE SECOND PUNIC WAR; THE WW II OF ANCIENT TIMES. I DISAGREE WITH HIS INTERPRETATION OF SCIPIO AFRICANUS, PREFERING LIDDELL-HART'S PORTRAYAL;HOWEVER THIS IS SCOLARSHIP OF THE LAST CENTURY AT IT'S BEST, NOT PUBLICATION TO SATISFY THE ACEDEMIC REQUIREMENT OF PUBLISH OR PERISH. COVERS STRATEGY,TACTICS,POLITICS, ET CETERA. THIS WORK HAS NEVER BEEN SURPASSED; INDEED I KNOWN OF NO ATTEMPT TO DO SO.

Almost the most complete book on Dodges.
A excellent book for Dodge-lovers. Has a lot of imformation on Dodge cars from Dodge inception (1914) to date. Has identification, rating, appraisal etc. on every Dodge car except, curiously, one. The Dodge Aspen. A car that, in R/T, Super Coupe, and Kit Car dressing are very collectible. Has Mirada, Omni, Spirit, Shadow, why not Aspen?

Joe Dodge, One New Hampshire Institution

Amazing book!
Anyone interested in the White Mountains of New Hampshire will be fascinated by this compelling account of Joe Dodge, the real Old Man of the mountains. Putnam weaves humor and tragedy with his own personal knowledge of the man who was perhaps most responsible for the modern perception of the Northern Peaks. AMC Hutmaster, pioneer SAR organizer, co-founder of the Mount Washington Observatory, organizer of the legendary Inferno races from the summit of Washington to Pinkham Notch, it's all told in this wonderful book.

Ah Mabel!
Ah Mabel! I have been to your house in Taos, slept in your bed, and bathed in that wonderful bathroom where you painted the window panes with flowers. Lois Rudnick reveals your life brilliantly. Here is a book alive with heartache and joy, some meaness, and much searching and discovery. Mable Dodge Lujan--an amazing life; a complex and talented woman who, indeed, was a "mover and shaker". "Her desire for self-importance attracted her to some of the most stimulating and creative talents in America." Lois Rudnick details a wonderful biography of who, what, when, and where. Thank you, Lois. You made Mable's house come to life and her life fill the house.

Intrigue and danger stalks an American woman in Ireland
Lark Dodge needs a vacation to reassess her life. Her recent miscarriage has left her depressed and she has some doubts about her marriage to Jay. When her mother suggests that she accompany her father (recovering from a stroke) on a research trip to Ireland, she jumps at the opportunity to help him while having some time away for herself. When Lark arrives in Ireland, she decides to tour the estate that she and her father are staying at as guests. Lark soon stumbles upon a corpse of an American, who was the business manager of a software company. The police have two suspects, Lark's father and a missing teen, who had been seen arguing with the deceased. Upon learning about the murder, Jay, a retired police officer, flies to Ireland to protect Lark, who is absolutely irate over his arrival. When another person is killed and her spouse kidnapped, Lark realizes that she must solve the case or potentially lose someone dear to her even if it means placing her own life on the line. MALARKEY is an interesting who-done-it filled with charming characters, the exquisite Irish locale which adds an eerie sense of beauty, and its "grass is not always greener" philosophy. Though the references to modern day Irish politics seem a trifle overdone, Sheila Simonson's novel will be enjoyed by fans of the sub-genre. Harriet Klausner

Best book on a founder of Dodge City, Kansas
C. Robert Haywood has written a wonderful book on one of the founders (of perhaps two or three men) of Dodge City, Kansas. Wright made millions from cattle and spent it all. Four wives, and 45 years later he died in Dodge City, broke and not famous. He was one of the men who hired Wyatt Earp and was a backer of Mat Basterson, among many other more famous (infamous) Western hero. As President of the Ford County (ie, Dodge City) historical Society, I assure the reader that no better history of that period has yet been written, except perhaps Robert Wright's book on Dodge City itself. (out of print). Wright is an amazing man, from a family which included a grandfather who was Clerk of the US Supreme Court and a greatgrandfather that was president of the US during the period before the constitution. Great book. (little known fact: Wright still has in 1999 a greatgrandson age 80 and a grandson, age 49, still living. that doesn't happen very often, but with forty years or so between wife number 1 and wife number 4, etc.) George Laughead Jr.

A Hot Story
It's hard for me to believe Cameron Judd is not read and reviewed by more people. He is an excellant story teller. In this one he tells of two lost souls who find each other. A story to kindle your heart. The main character Penn finds two other great friends and lives on. You will find this story hard to break from.
