Excellent overview of current theo. Prolepsis explained. This book is easily one of the best overviews of the history of theological thought currently available. It is especially useful in that Dr. Peters is one of the first to grapple with post-modern theological thinking and its implications. Dr. Peters is particularly insightful in his explication of prolepsis, the idea that God is drawing us all toward a future which God has envisioned. There will be much food for thought here, especially for those seeking some support of orthodoxy without closing the door to other theological trends. I have not only found it helpful for my own study, but have used it to help answer tough questions from my parishioners

The Golden Era : West by Rail With the Harvey GirlsThis paper doll book covers the years from 1922 to 1927. In addition to the five 8-inch dolls and their outfits, there is a journal. The journal tells the story of the characters and the clothing they wear. Each doll has a variety of costumes including uniforms, everyday wear, and dressy clothes. Various hairstyles are provided for the females. This book is very well done. The dolls and clothes are printed on glossy cardstock and paper. The colors appear to be the correct hues for the time. Beside each costume is a short description with fashion notes and the year. The fashion notes vary in contents. They may contain the materials used, the names of the colors, the source of the clothing, or when it was worn. Many of the outfits came from the Sears catalog. Unlike many paper doll books for the Twenties, this one shows ordinary people not movie stars or the rich and famous. The book also includes a brief glossary of fashion terms and a bibliography. The back cover has a map showing where the events of the journal occurred and a picture of Fred Harvey. It packs a lot of information in its few pages. After carefully removing the pages of dolls and costumes you can reassemble the book and have the complete journal. If you cut out the fashion notes and attach them to the back of the outfits, you will have them for future reference. If you're interested in fashion of the Twenties, the history of the West or the Harvey Girls get this book. (I was personally disappointed in the book only because I wanted the Harvey Girls of an earlier period. The description of the book didn't include the dates when I ordered it.)

Good Companionsthis book is magical...the relationship between author and her "good companions" is something that most of us never achieve in a lifetime, be it with human or animal. it will break your heart with its simple, poignant story. i read it at work and cried. then i gave it to a friend at work, with the warning "do not read this until you get home", and then a bit later, saw her own face, red from crying...if you love nature and more importantly, animals, this is a must read. the author is brave and noble, but her good companions are so much more so..re-affirms why we're really here, and what is really important in life.

A Good Southerner: The Life of Henry A. Wise of Virginia
Published in Paperback by AAA (28 February, 2001)

Impressive WorkProfessor Simpson's scholarship is an admirable feat. He provides an extensive biography of Henry A. Wise, and the politics of the union, with the purpose of asserting the supremacy of individual agency. Simpson's treatment of the John Brown raid, and the over laying psychology behind it, is of particular interest. The work's oratory and articulation is of the highest quality.

Scholarly and popular bookThis book is an oustanding example of what's right with academia today. Prof. Susan Ryan has written an eminently readable account of "good intentions" in relation to race in the 19th century. This is a very compellingly written story of how people related to the issue of race, and the crime of slavery, during this period. Although it is the kind of book you might read in a college course, it is also fun and enlightening reading for anyone interested in history and American literature in the 19th century.

Informative and FascinatingExtremely well written and informative, this volume by a noted scholar brings the world of the Elizabethan theater to life for high school and general readers. It is a collection of short biographies of the major playwrights of that day, including Shakespeare (who is given no more space and weight than the others. But their brevity does not cause the author to skimp on detail. Each biography gives the main facts of the playwright's life and also captures something of his personality, likes and dislikes, and frailties. A perfect supplementary work for general high school and undergraduate college English classes that cover Shakespeare and his age.

The book provides a much-needed focus on the major health problems faced by developing and developed regions and countries. It places public health in the broad context of economic development, and its socioeconomic and environmental milieu. This approach gives a broad international perspective and helps in understanding major public health implications of globalization.
The book is a valuable and useful position in the professional library of public health workers and policy makers at national level. It is also an important source of both information and inspiration for international civil servants working within the health sector as well as those involved in other global, multi- and bilateral developmental areas that have a bearing on health and well being of individuals and populations.
The undeniable strength of the publication is that it firmly puts public health in the context of global developmental agenda and identifies broad areas of accountability for national governments and international agencies and organizations. The need for investing in public health in general and in public health workforce development in particular is strongly advocated.
