Spiritualism Unmasked
This is a brilliant, thoroughly researched, and thoroughly illuminating book. Though the prose and the ideas will be tough sledding for anyone looking for a light read on nineteenth-century mediums and seances, careful readers will be richly rewarded for their patience. This is an outstanding book for students of American religious and cultural history.

now dated, but still quite good!
Quite excellent view of the late-Soviet reality through the eyes of one Russian industrial town. Very engaging narrative. Highly recommended, along with the venerable classic THE RUSSIANS by Hedrick Smith. In fact I would recommend this book before I would recommend's Hedrick Smith's follow up book THE NEW RUSSIANS, in all honesty. STEELTOWN, USSR is truer in spirit and kinship to the earlier Smith book...THE NEW RUSSIANS focuses a little too much on Gorbachev to the exclusion of the wider picture. This book gives an effective glimpse of that wider picture thru an effective microcosm...a must read for any student of Russian history.

Stonewall Jackson : Confederate General (Famous Figures of the Civil War Era)

An excellent juvenile biography of Stonewall Jackson
Well, it is clear to me that all of the volumes in the Famous Figures of the Civil War Era series are going to refer to their subjects by their first name, and while calling Stonewall Jackson "Tom" throughout this book does not bother me as much as calling William Tecumseh Sherman "William," I still have a fundamental problem with juvenile biographies that build familiarity between the subject and the reader by this tactic. This is especially true when you are talking about military leaders who led armies slaughtering one another.

That reservation aside, this is an excellent series for teaching young students more about some of the most important figures in the Civil War. Martha S. Hewson does a nice job of capturing the remarkable transformation of Thomas J. Jackson, from an odd professor at the Virginia Military Institute into one of the most brilliant leaders of American troops in the nation's history, immortalized as "Stonewall" Jackson. Hewson does an especially nice job of explaining some of the tactical maneuvers that earned Jackson his reputation. When, after Jackson's death, Robert E. Lee contends that the Confederates would have won the Battle of Gettysburg and therefore the Civil War if Jackson had still been alive, young readers will be inclined to agree. This book is illustrated with historic etchings and paintings, but, surprisingly, no photographs. Side-bars explore details from Jackson's life, such as why the Civil War was called "The Brother's War" and the importance of mapmaking to Jackson's campaign in the Shenandoah Valley. This is an excellent series for providing young students more information about the Civil War.

New to making music on your computer? This book is for you!
Absolutely fabulous book - goes over all the details of setting up and configuring your Mac or PC for doing computer based music production. Tons of in-depth reviews and advice on current software and hardware products. This book also covers some basic concepts for music production which will apply to ANY system you're working with. Even if you're not new to computer music and just want to know more about what software and hardware is available, with both pros and cons, this would be an excellent book to refer to.

The Pleasure of Discovery
There are few secrets to be revealed. It is hard to be where no one has ever been. One hits upon a deserted, white, pure beach. This must be a secret place, one thinks. Alas! A can of Coke is soon to be found, proof that men have been there before.

Finding a secret book is very much like finding a secret place. And this book is pretty much a secret one. Though Bernal has won some kind of a literary name with another book of his (El complot mongol), he is commonly thought of as a one-book-writer. And nothing more false.

This book is a master piece of horror and science fiction. It uses science fiction to what is really meant, as a metaphor of our times. Bernal hits with a lasting symbol of the modern condition, with all its pain and desolation.

Yet, like truly great science fiction, this book manages to be humorous, somewhat farsical in tone. There is a very short gap between criticizing our civilization and whining about it. Bernal knows how to walk on the razor's edge.

This book is a secret. Few readers know about it and critics have let it pass by. It is a beach, with great, foaming waves, with immaculate sand and huge granitical cliffs at its sides. Very few have been there. And I tell you it is worth you while to go get a peep.

Awesome Book!!! Talent is critical for business success!!!
I read Chowdhury's previous bestselling book THE POWER OF SIX SIGMA in which he explained complex topic like Six Sigma in entaining way. And one of the important element of Six Sigma as Chowdhury explained "PEOPLE POWER". His latest book "THE TALENT ERA" reemphasizes the power of talented people to any type or size of organizations.

If you want to read only one business book this year, BUY this book and READ each chapter very carefully. Each chapter presents NEW and INNOVATIVE IDEAS in the field of Talent management. Chowdhury's "7 SECRETS of Talent" is a MASTERPIECE Chapter I read in a business book after a long time - it is INSPIRATIONAL. This book should be in every manager's reading list in this economic turbulant time. As managers want to CUT people during tough time, but Chowdhury argues that PEOPLE is the MOST IMPORTANT ASSET of an organization and make sure that you are not getting rid of TALENTED PEOPLE. Chowdhury's theory of RETURN ON TALENT and The Talent Scorecard are very powerful and fresh in management literature plus it is practical.

I strongly recommend this book to everyone.

Superb
Excellent roleplaying guide for any Old Testament story. Covers play as any of the ancient peoples of the Bible and during any period, although there is an emphasis on Israelites and King David. Detailed events system makes village and farming life interesting. Bronze age army combat resolution captures the feel of the ancient ballads. Heroes dominate the ancient battlefield like champions from the Trojan War. Very, very well done and worthwhile for anyone interested in roleplaying the Ancient World.

One of the best !
Roland Beamont was one (if not the best) flight test pilots in UK. In this book, he tell us how very difficult was his profession in the earlys '50, when terms as "sonic barrier" and "compressibility" begins to be heard. Beamont fly most of the UK fightes and prototipes, including: English Electric Canberra, E.E. P.1 (the first UK supersonic aircraft in horizontal flight), E.E. Lightning, and the bomber prototype TSR 2. The book is very professional, and any "aviation lover" must read it. Beamont also flight the F-84, F-86, and F-104 prototype in USA, and his (recently) desclassified evaluations are transcribbed in the book. This is one of the books I enjoy and delighted in every page. He show the aviation (and the planes, also) from a different point of view: The test pilot's, where his confidence and capabilities fougth his fears against the unexplored (even, never explored)perfomances of a new aircraft.
