This is a follow-on to To Each His Own!!Diamond Willow has characters you'll recognize if you've read To Each His Own. I had read Diamond Willow BEFORE I read To Each His Own and recognized the characters. Both are must reads if you're a Kathleen Eagle fan! She's my favorite author, because you know you'll not be disappointed with ANY of her books. The characters get under your skin right away, and you'll lose sleep before you finish either of the two!

Wonderful for a young girl.I am taking a chance that this is a book I read when a child, in the 40s. Or perhaps there was another book with the same title, about a young girl of noble family whose marriage to a prince who lives in a castle atop a high mountain and whom she has never met. The book opens with her journey up the mountain, in fear and trepidation.

Some Essential Articles for the study of the Mexican WarA wonderful and mandatory book for any Mexican War enthusiast. The best article is from one of the two Mexican historians, Miguel A. Gonzalez Quiroga. He examines the humanity on both sides. Mostly ignoring whose fault the war was, he writes a beautiful eulogy of the dead of both sides. Wonderful! The worst article was the other historian from Mexico, Josefina Zoraida Vazguez. She beats a dead horse. Her argument has been argued by American historians since the 60's. However, Sam Haynes's article on relations between the US, Mexico, and Britain is superb. It not only discusses the almost inevitable conflict with Britain and the US prior to the fighting at the Rio Grande, but also points out the why the British were not coming in to help Mexico. Another superb article was by Michael Roth's article on Journalism in the war. Roth's work is a must for those interested in the cultural side of the American soldiers experience in Mexico. Overall and excellent collection of work.

Eagle: Creatures of the WildA book my 10 year old daughter throughly enjoyed. Beautiful photographs, lots of information for a person to learn specifics about eagles. Follows a nesting pair of eagles through raising two eaglets. Including building a nest, feeding, teaching to fly, and how the eaglets gain their independance.

Best known for the Brother Cadfael mysteries, Ellis Peters actually wrote the Felse series first, but until recent years, these appealing books have been out of print in the United States. "Death and the Joyful Woman," which received an Edgar Award, deserves a warm welcome from American readers. Peters has told not only an engaging mystery but a sensitive coming-of-age story as well. Characters and relationships are sharply delineated--Dominic is a highly likable teen sleuth and his interactions with his parents, especially his father, are both amusing and touching. And a subplot concerning a struggling young couple and an unusual painting--the Joyful Woman of the title--proves just as involving as the main storyline. Readers of "Fallen into the Pit," Peters' first Felse mystery, may notice that the method Dominic uses to flush out the murderer is similar to the one he employs here, but this is a minor quibble in an otherwise excellent novel. Highly recommended.
