No way. This book is a faberication of the vivid memories of what they could have been, should have been, but are now rewritting history to make themselves into heroes. My heroes are not these con-artists.

"We left the perimeter at first light, going out through the east gate of Camp Eagle...Our mission was to patrol the eastern half of the AO, avoiding civilian contact, and look for anything out of the ordinary... Intelligence had reported occasional VC activity in the hamlet. VC tax collectors and supply parties often traveled the trails in the AO at night."

This is a great set up. Because Lurps in Vietnam were trained to ambush the VC at night in MACV Recondo School. Gary Linderer was there in Vietnam as a PFC. He never attended MACV Recondo School taught by the Special Forces. Reading the contemporaneous, non-biased, no agenda, U.S. National Archive records give a clearer more accurate depiction of what was real versus what Gary Linderer and others have conspired to twist into a war tales making heroes out of themselves. The bigger the tale the bigger the sale. It is the truth and the history that is lost in these cheap pocketbook, so-called, nonfiction books that have "NOT" been fact-checked by the publisher. This book, and others, clearly had tragic effects on the author. Mr. Linderer who invents well spun tales or fcition and lies in his writings. On the face of it, it might appear that maintaining a running fabrication would be harder. Psychologically speaking, "Oh what a tangled web we weave, when we fabricate, lie, trick and deceive." A made up war story, such as this, allows one to construct a reality that takes the mind where the truth does not exist. Because lying in books about one's military awards and medals and then telling whopping war stories about made up combat scenes the author becomes a "truth-concealing liar." This tormented lie the author must live on a daily bases does exact a toll and leads to a strain of emotional consequences that effect the mind and the body. Poor physical and mental health, in essence.

This was the target!! From Linderer's book on page 11- "My first full day back with F Company was occupied with replacing the weapon and all the gear and equipment I had lost November 20. I had to start from scratch replacing my LBE (load-bearing equipment) and my rucksack and pack frame." FROM THE NATIONAL ARCHIVES: G-2 & G-3 101st Abn. Div CAMP EAGLE DATE 23 Nov. 1968. 1429 hours (C) G-2 recd msg fr 2d Bde stating: At 1325H vic YC83888 D/2/501 1st plt at 1240H fnd 8 bodies: 7 x VC, 1 NVA, 4 pairs of PJ, 20 lbs of rice, 1 kettle, equipment left by LRPS: 1 x WP gernade, 1 x bottle of whole blood, LRP rations, poncho liner, 6 x US rucksacks, 1 x sewing kit and 5x claymore. Note: The 8 x VC were previously reported.

Mr. Linderer, in effect, he is saying that he left his rucksack in the field of battle. If there were hundreds and hundreds of hard-core NVA they most certainly would have taken this valuable equipment that was left in the field for three days. These men simply ambushed a "rice porter detail" and later had a VC shoot at them. They failed their mission by not ambushing the VC that passed by them the night before. Mr. Linderer was, at that time, like the rest of the team members under the disillusions of "Short Timer's Anxiety." In mid-1968 the Vietnam War was not at all the way these men re wrote it. Fraggings, yes. Not wanting to go out to the field and face combat, yes. Heroes, I don't think so. Vietnam in mid-1968 was a medal frenzy for ticket punchers and those wanting to impress loved ones at home that they were saints and heroes. Not so, according to the national archives.

Page 14 - "The Cav (2/17 Cav) really didn't have a lot of use for LRPs, and we reciprocated their feelings, especially after their reaction team's heroic actions November 20 (when they cowered on the LZ while our fellow LRPs charged to our rescue)."

Gary Linderer gives us a detailed account of his one-year tour of duty in Vietnam. Inserting into indian country in six man teams Linderer and his team mates sneek and peek in the enemies backyard. Linderer describes everything that happened 35 years ago with great detail. He also makes the reader feel that they are their with him through out his tour with the Rangers. I met"Mother" Rucker at a reunion and talked with him for more than a half hour about things in this book like I was there and I did not even serve in Vietnam. Linderer's book gives us insight into the courage, bravery and professionalism of men that America did not care about. This is a must read for those that want to know what Vietnam was like in an elite unit.

Gary Linderer is a true american hero, He voulentered for airborne, he voulentered to go to F company 101 abn.
Six man partrols behind enemy lines with only rifles and radios for support in case anything went wrong.
Too me that already make these men heros.
Gary Linderer was involed in the 20 Nov battle that saw 4 of his team mates dead and the rest, including himself woundet.
But also a fight that saw some amazing act of bravery, off which
at least one of them should have resultet in the medal of honor.
Gery Linderer recovered, went back to his unit and "showed what those Missisipi boys are made off" ( I stole this frase from John Burford,,, Sorry John), Gary Linderer was also decorated for his performance on 20 nov.
Gary Linderer's book is well written, funny at times and I realy enjoyed the part about Capt Shepard and CID, many of the single events in this book are already well documentet in other books, so How Mr Linderer tell it, is how it was, I can highly recomed this book to anyone who wants to read about "Lurps" in Vietnam

Using the mixture of photography, facts and quotes, 101st Airborne: The Screaming Eagles At Normandy, can serve as a great historical document. Within the pages of this great book, eye-catching photographs bring to light those events from World War II and the Normandy Invasion. The actions and reactions of the soldiers that fought in that war are caught forever through the historical eye of a camera, through famous and infamous quotes and accounts of the heroes from World War II.

The pages show the heightened moral and anticipation of the men prior to the invasion. Then the reader is brought into the middle of the battle with stories and quotes not just eye-opening photographs. This technique brings you side by side with the people of the villages and into the ranks of the soldiers marching off to fight another battle. I believe one of the best chapters is the true story of the movie 'Saving Private Ryan'. This chapter, Saving Sergeant Niland, shows the true-life drama of a man that Hollywood has made famous.

The book brings to light some of the things that are never seen in movies and footage of events of the war. I am sure that this book, as well as its predecessor The 101st Airborne at Normandy, will bring back memories of the way it was behind the lines during that part of the war to those who served. Even though there is a predecessor to this book both stand independent of each other.

Outragous book, my father was in this book and I had to call him to recount the details to me first hand. Because of this book, I now know more of the war my father fought in.

I really enjoyed this book. If not for anything else, buy it for the photos! The author used personal photos taken clandestinely by various 101st AB veterans during the campaign, many in color. I also liked the mix of contemporaneous as well as current day photos to put the events in their proper perspective. I recommend this book to all Screamin' Eagle followers, as well as others such as re-enactors and WWII history buffs.

SO! The Cry of the Eagle has sounded, what does this mean? Quite simply, that humanity has come of age and now must take responsibility for its actions in playing a truly meaningful role in materializing the full awareness of the dreamers of mankind, for this is their intent. How to do so, where to go? By learning to LIVE, rather than exist, by under-stading that there is no-where to go, which means one is now-here. By listening to the heart and using the world as a mirror reflecting our own inner self. The Toltec Teaching Series that nagal Theun Mares is writing serves as a beacon light for those of us who sense that world needs are so dire and that only WE can turn them around. At a certain level, the premise that "if we change and uplift ourselves so to must the world around us" is all we need in order to cause our bucket to overflow, our life to be-come filled with many richnesses and many joys. But here is the practical use of Theun's books, particularly this one. Writing this volume in 3 easy to grasp, yet challenging to implement strategies, the apprentice or reader is guided into taking action that leads to knowledge in the fundamental heart of the Toltec legacy. These 3 parts, or steps, are - (1) Living the Life of the Warrior: Transmutation. (2) Erasing Personal History: Transformation. (3) Dreaming: Transfiguration. This really amounts to embracing death for it is not possible to give birth to a new being, a new life, a new world, without first burying that which is old and out-dated, including the perception we have of ourselves. To create a life that is forever new and nascent, requires a destruction of the old, our old way of viewing the world. Upon reading this book and indeed the reviews written here, I am led to wonder of the examples provided in the world today. This includes my own. There is something stirring and hope-ful about the camaraderie found with those who walk the Path with Heart, and to this extent, where are these people who write these great reviews? Hello! Do you hear me? Particularly this Gagliano chap, whose words are quite poetic and chilling to the bone. I wonder if there is some "Toltec Pub" in which men and women explore the teachings together? Yes, a Hunters Lodge, that is where I shall meet you, ANY of you who are reading this NOW. There we shall drink a toast to LIFE, NOW, LOVE and WARMTH. What is a life without Friendship, without Honour, without Fluidity? A cold and barren life. So COME FRIEND! "Roll the dice of life, if you care to live, friend! If you dare to die!" For the Spirit has knocked on our door, and life will never be the same again. . .

Most of us first came into contact with the Toltec Tradition through the works of Carlos Castaneda whose chronicles of his apprenticeship under the Nagal Don Juan Matus have become known worldwide. But while Mr. Castaneda was a trained anthropologist, his works are largely biographical. As fascinating as they are, as tantalizing as they are in their implications for the future of humanity, the books are difficult to use as teaching tools for those readers interested in following the Warrior's Path. Herein lies the great importance of Theun Mares' books for the serious student of the the Toltec teachings. For with the publication of Return of The Warriors, Mr. Mares, a Nagal of the third attention, began the formidable task of bringing forth a series of texts designed for practicle use. In every way,these books not only corroborate the teachings of Don Juan, they elaborate upon them in great detail. I cannot imagine walking the Path With A Heart without them. Cry of The Eagle is the second volume in the series, and, like its predecessor, it is a gift to be savored. It inspired me; it awed me, and, most importantly, it challenged my view of the world. The title of the book is as important as the work itself. Simply stated, The Cry of The Eagle is an occurence signifying the knock of the spirit, not for a single individual, but for all of humanity. For untold generations the teachings were an oral tradition passed along through various Toltec lineages, each separated from the rest to insure their survival until such time as mankind reached the necessary level of development to receive them. This time has come. Thus, as Mr. Mares states, the Doctrine of Separate Development no longer holds. Now the time has come for the teachings to be made available for all those who wish to benefit from them. Needless to say, this is a momentous occasion. The Cry of The Eagle takes us ever deeper in to the Toltec Teachings, particularly those dealing with left side awareness. Topics covered in this book include, The Art of Dreaming, Stopping the Internal Dialogue and the Four Natural Enemies. Mr. Mares elucidates the most recondite material with a clarity and precision that is almost alarming. I cannot recommend Cry of The Eagle strongly enough. This is humanities hour of power and the train is leaving the station. Don't delay. There is much to learn and time is of the essence.

Cry of the Eagle, Volume 2 of the Toltec teaching series by Theun Mares, gave me a good bird's eye view of the cosmology behind the practical teachings of the Toltec tradition. Theun unleashed a torrent of information whereby I was able to put meaning and purpose with the techniques learned in the first volume, Return of the Warriors. This book covers a broad range of the Toltec teachings and yet, as the author tells us, this book is but only a fraction of the teachings that he is systematically bringing forward to humanity. I especially benefited from the chapters covering belief in oneself, stopping internal dialogue, and the entire section on the art of dreaming.

Cry of the Eagle is a well-written and scholarly manual for living the Toltec teachings, and it is very easy to read. Theun put enough examples in this book, just as he did in the first, for me to get a FEEL for the teachings and the techniques. It was because of the extensive examples that I was able to correlate much of the material to what I was experiencing in my day to day living and make the needed adjustments to break free from some long-standing habit patterns.

I was very much convinced while reading and working with Cry of the Eagle that this was definitely not like anything that I had read to date. It was empowering and uplifting, and it gave me the much-needed impetus to change my conditions for the better. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to break free from the inertia of old habits: mental, emotional, or physical. I especially recommend it for those who already have a penchant for things "Toltec".

This is one of the best children's books that I have read in quite some time. I just could not put it down until I had read all of it. It inspires one to dream and reach for the heavens. "Tia" should be read by all children and their parents.

I am in the first grade and I love Tia. She is brave little mouse with a big big dream. Tia has a very nice family and lot's of friends who help her. I took Tia to school and my teacher read it to my class and everyone loved it too. And my cousins loved it and took it to school too.

Tia's story is a reminder of what every parent hopes to instill in their child as they face the many challenges of life. Tia's adventure is full of trials and tribulations that ends with the greatest reward of all- the fulfillment of a dream. This is one book that every parent should have on their child's book shelf.

John Pezzenti has the nobility of an eagle...the stamina of a panther and the endurance of an owl intent on it's foe. He is beyond any human explanation of what a photograher should or could ever aspire to be. When I experience his photograghs I am transformed to the reality that all mankind could benifit from his example. We are but players in the realm of a wonderous life cycle...not within our command but certainly within our protection. Thank You John for your gift and sharing it!

Not long ago I sat with John Pezzenti Jr. in his beat up Suburban that he uses for nature photography as rain pounded upon the roof. John showed me a pre-release copy of his newest book, American Eagle. My 13 year old nephew from California looked over my shoulder as I turned each page, stunned by the breadth and depth of John's photographic coverage of this symbol of America. To say this is a remarkable book is an under statement. My nephew summed up how magnificant this book is when we were driving back home. "John's pictures are amazing," Shane said. "I'm going to start saving today so I can buy that book when it comes out!"

If you like sorrow, action, and adventure, you will love the book The Lantern Bearers. It is one of many great historical fiction books by Rosemary Sutcliff. This is a wonderful book about Aquila, a man in the Middle Ages, who fights alongside Ambrosis, the prince of Britain.
There were many different settings in The Lantern Bearers. They were all in Britain during the Anglo-Saxon period like Ullasfjord with its harsh winters, and Arfon with its beautiful mountains. Some of these settings put me "in the book". For example, when Aquila was in Ullasfjord, I could almost feel the blizzards!
I liked some parts of this book more than others. In some parts of the book it is a little too slow. I liked the book because most parts are exciting, like when Aquila gets married. Also it is descriptive: the author describes the characters well, like the detail of the dolphin on Aquila's shoulder. You may or may not like this book, but you will still want to read it again!

Although the third book in the trilogy about the family with the dolphin ring, The Lantern Bearers is maybe for more mature readers.
(Notice I said more mature, NOT older.) One of the things I love most about this book is that, even though it is sad, the sadness is REAL, not Romeo-and-Juliet type, with a tragic ending. The ending is not exactly hopeful about the future of England, but Aquila has finally found inner peace. However, the middle, in which Aquila is a slave of the Jutes (not Saxons, that's just what the British called all the invaders), and when he- oops! Don't want to give away the story!- is very bitter, and that's why it's perhaps for MORE MATURE readers. This book is one of Rosemary Sutcliff's best.

I am an avid adult reader of Arthurian legends. I read this book after hearing it is a prequel to The Sword at Sunset, also by Rosemary Sutcliff, and I loved it. I am captivated by the romance and chivalry of this passionate era in our history - and also by the great battle scenes as described by the better authors of this legend (Bernard Cornwell in particular). This book kept my adult interest and made me more anxious than ever to get to The Sword of Sunset...a continuation of the story line in The Lantern Bearers where a young Artos is introduced to us - and by the end of the book can be recognized as the great King Arthur to come.

I always thought of myself as an informed flyer, but I was surprised to have my inherent trust of the FAA so profoundly shaken by this book. Stephen Fredrick combines his background as a pilot of the ATR series aircraft with a deep caring for the passengers & crew of the fatal flight of American Eagle 4184 to create a book that rivals many techno-thrillers. The book was published in 1996, and is a real cliff hanger since it came out before the legal settlement and crash investigation report were finally made public. The book got me so interested that I spent many hours searching the web pages to find out what decision the National Transportation Safety Board finally made concerning this airplane crash. I will certainly check to see if I am boarding an ATR whenever I fly in the future.

Fredrick's book is great, very well written. But he left out one very important thing. Airplane is the safest way to travel long distances. Statistics show that you would need to take a flight every day for 35,000 years before being assured of being in a fatal accident, and even then chances are that you would survive. Mr. Fredrick barely mentioned the good points of the F.A.A. and N.T.S.B., and even though I'm not exactly an American Airlines/Eagle fan, they are one of the safest airline operators in the world.

This is a very detailed account of American Eagle flight 4184. It's very informative and moving. Must reading for anyone interested in aviation.

First off, don't be put off by the fact that this book was published in 1994 (copyrighted in 1990). The fact is, it's a timeless book that doesn't draw from current 'techniques' or 'ways of thinking'. It's as relevant today as it was when it was first published.

David McNally begins with the question: "Why does the thrill of soaring begin with the fear of falling?" he goes on to ask how you can overcome that fear and dare to live, and he takes you from motivation through inspiration to action. In fact, if you're prepared to work at this book (sounds strange, doesn't it), it will be you who writes the ending.

This is not so much a table-thumping "You can do it" book, as a quiet journey at your own speed that allows you to discover your own potential and teaches you how to choose your attitude and transform your life... success with dignity would sum it quite nicely.

David McNally uses a number of quotes, anecdotes and exercises to create a sense of purpose for one's life. The book is a cross between a motivational business title like something from Zig Ziglar and a feeling-based inspirational book like something from Leo Buscaglia.

McNally encourages individuals to set goals and work daily to achieve them and succeed at them.

Readers will come away with a positive attitude that anything is possible.

i read gray eagles bride after i read Hunter's bride and i must say that i am disapointed in this book it did not have the same strengh about it don't get me wrong the book was good and it was nice to get reaquanted with old friend but in Hunter's bride there was more action and fun this book could have been better

This wonderful heartwarming story of two devoted and believable lovers is hard to put down. The intelligent way Ms. Wulf handles Diana's introduction to the Cheyenne culture, makes us wish we had been there too. I was not aware until I read other reviews that there was a Beaudine saga. I must get the rest of the books. I enjoyed this one from cover to cover.

Can a book of this category be any better? Read it, it's a must and definitely a keep. Jessica Wulf not only creates a wonderful, truly romantic story with lovable and adorable characters (Grey Eagle is perfect and a believable character), she also gives an insight into Native American culture - thus giving the story additional depth. Wish there were more books of this quality. If someone has read any equally fascinating romance novel (which I doubt), let me know!

Unbeknownst to many of us, Nazi POW's were detained right here in the US in the waning years of WW II. This is the story of a prison breakout and the Texas Ranger's posse to apprehend them. You get a feel of a good old western, but with biplanes and machine guns thrown in. There is a healthy dose of action enriched with colorful dialog, identifiable characters, and heart pounding descriptions. And amidst all of this, there is a serious message. This very well written book will educate, as well as entertain. Definitely recommended.

"Shadows of Eagles" places first time novelist -- but no stranger to writing credits -- Stephen Lodge in nobody's shadow as a writer. The realistic dialogue with a cast of colorfully, diverse characters in "Shadows of Eagles" is in my mind the author's best talent as a writer. An exceptionally well written book and fascinating historical perspective are two other gifts the author brings to his readers. No doubt, this author/screenwriter may have recently published his first novel, but it most definitely will not be his last. Keep them coming. Outstanding!

The underlying theme of honor and respect permeates this fast paced story of a most unusual happening. Stephen Lodge has captured the essence of Texican pride and stubborn persistence as Cowboys chase Nazis across the hard desert mountains of southwest Texas. Using vintage WW1 planes, old trucks and cowboys on horseback, the action never slows.
