With beautiful illustrations by David Aiken, Carolyn Stearns tells the true story of how one person can make a difference ---in this case one young boy. John-B was so inspired by the graceful eagles, his observations lead a school and community on a campaign to save these magnificent birds. I found this book to be an inspiration for children (both young and old) to realize one person can make a difference.

I read it in one setting. Everything he writes is great and I've read them all. He's made Falcon a legend. I can't wait for more.

William W. Johnstone has done what I did not think was possible.... He has taken his "Eagles" series and after "killing off" the main character of Jamie Ian Mac Callister in the prior story (Scream of Eagles)... taken the series to a new level of excitement. "Rage of Eagles" tells the begining story of the Falcon Mac Callister Legend. While not using the historical references as he has done in the first four "Eagle" books... Johnstone has created a story that if you are a fan of Westerns at all... You will not be able to put down.... If you have not read the first four books in this series... (DO SO!) but this book is written so that a newcomer can enjoy the continuing saga of the Mac Callister Clan

I bought this book because of the illustrations and it has really colorful drawings of the butcher the baker and the candlestick maker. I enjoyed it because it sticks to original mother goose poem but it also has a quality about it that i have yet to see in any other children's mother goose book. Wonderful gift for a pre k child.

I've had the pleasure of reading this gem to my 3 year old son and he loves it. It's his favorite bedtime story.

Francis offers his usual fare: The same protagonist with a new name; a plot of investigation, discovery, physical pain and mental exercises; a supporting cast of believable characters who act in supportable, self-interested, and logical ways. All of which is not to say anything bad; i love to read Francis, and do so when looking for a vicarious thrill and a light read. The protagonist in this one is Edward "Link" Lincoln, an action picture actor ~ the sort who might star in movies made of Francis' books ~ who goes to South Africa for a little off-set investigation. At least, he thinks that's why he's gone there; he's actually gone to be killed. In a post-Apartheid world the picture of South Africa is rather sweet; i would guess Francis had some coöperation from the government in return for his portrayal of the country.

This is one of my favorite all time Dick Francis novels. Link is a character you'll love and you'll loves to plot twists as fiction can become reality.

Setting - Montana Mountains 1895 - Kali Wallace and her father, a noted historical author, have come to the Blackfoot reservation in the Montana mountains for more research on the native American peoples and for Kali, whose photographs accompany the text. However, as the Indians have a fear of being photographed - stemming from gossip that the photo steals their spirit - Kali must use her charm to convince the Chiefs that she would bring them no harm. Their Indian guide, Gilda, (a female) convinces both Kali and her father to accompany her up to Chiefs Mountain to see a spectacular sunrise. Gilda spins a tale of lost love and spirits before everyone settles down for the night. Kali, promptly fell asleep but was awakened during the night by someone singing. Following the sounds she comes upon the sight of a most magnificent Indian warrior. There eyes meet, he holds out a fan of feathers, she touches and is overcome and runs away.

The following days, the government Indian Agent arranges a presentation for Kali and her father, to meet the chiefs promising to use his influence to arrange permission for Kali to photograph. Naturally, during the presentations she spies the handsome warrior, only he is giving her looks as if he despised her. Not knowing what she had done she manages to speak to him and finds he trusts 'no white persons'. Kali finagles a way to get him to accompany her to take some photos the next day, whereby the attraction that is smoldering seems to ignite after a stampede that has Soaring Eagle first saving her life, then after the stampede and the ranchers who caused it show up - Kali manages to save his life.

The plot is relatively light with Soaring Eagle whose deep spiritual beliefs allow him to recognize the spirits at work bringing them together is able to readily confess his feelings. Kali, on the other hand, fights the attraction, denies her feelings and comes up with the very plausible and plain facts of the impossibility of their situation until a mysterious photograph she didn't take shows up. The romance of Soaring Eagle and Kali sharing the same dream in which the spirit world marries them is very powerful and deeply moving with supernatural overtones, rich in Indian lore and historical facts and very sensual. If not for the inconsistencies I felt in some of the dialogs I might have rated this a little higher for I truly did enjoy the story and most definitely recommend it to those readers who find this American Indian genre to their liking.

In 1895, Kali Wallace and her father come to Montana to photograph Indians. However, the local tribe seems uninterested in posing though one warrior Soaring Eagle goes so far as to scorn the two whites. However, as Soaring Eagle becomes better acquainted with the idealistic naïve Kali, he finds to his disbelief he is quite attracted to her.

As they sleep apart, Soaring Eagle and Kali share the same dream in which the spirit world marries them. She denies it, but he is elated because he realizes that he loves her. As Kali begins to accept the reality of the shared dream, she knows she loves Soaring Eagle, but realizes nothing can come of their relationship as she is a globetrotting photographer and his people need him here in Montana.

The latest Karen Kay Legendary Warrior tale (see WAR CLOUD'S PASSION and LONE ARROW'S PRIDE is a fascinating paranormal historical romance. Readers will find fascinating the depths that Ms. Kay plunges her audience into a close look at Indian spiritualism. Soaring Eagle is a delightful male lead as he quickly changes from antagonist to protagonist. On the other hand, it is frustrating is that the lead female spends much of the tale in denial until a photograph persuades her to reconsider. Still sub-genre fans will embrace this soaring novel.

This book was a delight to read and the author, James Baldwin, went to great depths to research his subject matter. The biography of Brigadier General Micah Jenkins went hand in hand with the story of the 5th South Carolina Volunteers and the Palmetto Sharpshooters. I found that the maps provided were detailed and easy to follow and helped the reader to follow the narrative of that particular event or action the author was describing. I did notice that there was a different point of view as to who was at fault for the Confederate failure during the battle of Lookout Mountain fought during October 28-29 1863. In this book the author places the blame upon Brigadier General Evander M. Law, (pages 233-241). In Wiley Sword's account of this incident in his book 'Mountains Touched with Fire' (pages 134-144), he places the blame more towards Micah Jenkins. But either way, he was a gifted leader and a brave man and one who shared a similiar fate to many leaders who lead from the front during the Civil War. Overall a well researched and presented book covering the many battles of this man and these units.

You have chanced upon the reviews of one of the best of all the Civil War Biographies! In fact, if it wern't for Robertson's bio on Stonewall this would top them all. Although Jenkins' is little known outside of South Carolina his exploits were no less awesome then some of the better known generals from the South. Micah fought in some of the most ferocious battles of the Civil War, and always led from the front. Near my house in Columbia is a museum where you can see his broken sword and jacket pierced by numerous bullets that he wore during the Seven Days' Battle around Richmond. This battle is particularly interesting and extremely well described. This book will not bore and is not overwhelmingly biased as some Civil War books tend to be, but it is a joy to read and will definitely be a great addition to anyone's library!

AS A TRUE SON OF THE SOUTH, I APPLAUDE MR. JOHNSTONE'S VIEWS OF THIS TRAGIC PERIOD IN OUR NATION'S HISTORY. TO A GREAT MANY PEOPLE. IT NEVER WAS A WAR ABOUT SLAVERY, BUT A FIGHT TO PRESERVE THE SOVEREIGNTY OF THEIR HOMELAND. BEFORE THE WAR, THE STATE HAD FINAL SAY IN WHAT WAS DONE WITHIN ITS BORDERS. AFTER THE WAR, RIGHT, WRONG, OR INDIFFERENT, THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT COULD AND DID HOLD SUPREME. MANY SAW THAT AS A RETURN TO WHAT WE FAUGHT THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR TO ESCAPE. SERMON OVER, AS USUAL, MR. JOHNSTONE DELIVERS A ROUSING GOOD TALE OF A LEGENDARY HERO, A SURVIVOR OF THE ALAMO AND A MAN DESTINED TO WALK WITH GIANTS. GREAT FUN AND MORE THAN A LITTLE HISTORICAL ACCURACY.

This book is just great. I can't really express in words of what this book did to me. Go ahead and call me an idiot or worse but this book dealt with a portion of history that I have studied over and over again. The Civil War and any person who was remotly interested in that war should like this book for it's accurate recounting of certain battles and of how it brings to life again the commanders of the armys once again. I believe you will like this book I know I have.

Dr. Lowry has added some color to the realm of Civil War History with his two books, Sex in the Civil War, and Tarnished Eagles. Lowry does a great job in picking out the interesting cases that also represent a good cross section of Civil War Justice. I heartily enjoyed this work. I'm not too sure of just how scholarly this is, but it certainly makes the soldiers appear much more human.

Far too many writers addressing the Civil War are guilty of childish romanticism. While that tremendous conflict certainly had its noble heroes and ample demonstrations of courage and self-sacrifice, any war--or human crisis of any sort--has its cowards and fools, its liars, thieves and rogues. This fine, factual book serves as a much-needed (and highly readable) balance to pulp fiction and pulp history heroics. It tells the stories of some of the officers who went wrong, either from deficiency of character or circumstance. In doing so, it enriches our understanding and visceral sense of the Civil War in ways that the next dozen adulatory biographies of mediocre generals will not. While I am a long-time fan of co-author William C. Davis, Dr. Lowry deserves special praise for his continuing literary efforts to describe the dramas and tragedies around, between and, sometimes, in the great battles. As a former soldier who served a full career, I can guarantee any reader that this book shows soldiers as more than a few of them really are--not gallantly charging the enemy, but energetically looking after themselves. While this book concentrates on some of the darker aspects of the war, those aspects are exactly the ones that are lacking in too much of what passes as history or historical literature. I would also recommend any of Lowry's or Davis's other superb Civil War books.

The Townspeople of Glover, Norht Dakota wanted to believe it of Lavender Holland.
She had the courage to be different -the reasons you will never guess.

But Wyatt Archer was beginning to wonder - because he kept returning to Lavender. She and her attraction was not in his game plan. Wyatt was a tall, dark half-blooded Sioux in a town of Scandinavian blondes. He was hired to coach wrestling to the high school team. This town took wrestling seriously. And so did Wyatt.

Wyatt had several good boys on the team -- one was John Tiger, the only other Native American in the high school and we meet Ally Nordstrom, not a wrestler but hopefully a manager ot the team. His sister, Teri, sixteen, works with Lavender, perfecting the art of weaving and falling in love with John Tiger.

Everything falls apart when John Tiger takes a flying leap off of the train tressel and can no longer wrestle. Killing all of his hopes and dreams. Now the question is why?

Marge Nordstrom makes a pass at the coach, Wyatt, even embarassing her children. She has quite a reputation around town for her many men and she definitely tries to stir up trouble for Lavender.

Not to give away too much of the story but I loved the beginning of the story with a personals ad and ending with one. It was very romantic.

Excellent story but --M -- recommended for a good read.

To Each His Own is another //can't put it down// Kathleen Eagle book. I had read Diamond Willow BEFORE I read To Each His Own and recognized the characters. Both are must reads if you're a Kathleen Eagle fan! She's my favorite author, because you know you'll not be disappointed with ANY of her books.

Most of us having been reading the "metaphysical" books for the last twenty years and it is all basicly the same. I found "Tracking Freedom" refreshingly different. It took reading the book several times and suspending my own usual way of thinking to start to digest what Ken Eagle Feather is trying to get across. I love the book. I will undoubtly read it again and again. Ken Eagle Feather's style of writing makes reading the book a pleasure; like two friends having a conversation. A book to be savored.

Of the three books by Ken Eagle Feather, this one is my favorite. Each of his previous books led me up to this one - which launched me into a new way of perception. Tracking freedom is precisely what the book is about, with no wasted words. It is packed full of exercises and information that helps one along the path to freedom.
