Look over a combat pilot's shoulder
With the war on terrorism in full swing, and the heavy use of US airmen in that war, it is not unusual for non-pilots like myself to wonder what it is like for our US pilots. And for those of us who consider matters of faith as vitally important in life, we wonder even more about the men and women involved in flying combat missions. Geoff Gorsuch gives us a look into the mind and soul of a pilot who wrestled with God while in the midst of the strain and horrors of war. Gorsuch flew as a FAC in Vietnam and lived to tell about it. He is an Air Force Academy graduate and through his Vietnam experiences became heavily decorated. His book, however, focuses on the spiritual journey he underwent in the skys over Vietnam. His musings and internal questionings and struggles are openly admitted - punctuated with the extreme experiences he saw in the war. He weaves these experiences together with his meditations on the book of Romans found in the Bible. The result is a look over his shoulder - sometimes in the cockpit of his OV-10, and other times in his bunk as he read his New Testament. Anyone wondering how to make sense out of the horrors of war, anyone wondering-in the light of the terror we see on TV these days-if God exists, anyone wondering if faith in God has a place in a soldier's life...should look over Geoff Gorsuch's shoulder.

A great start to a series
Being a Star Wars Junkie I have often wondered if I could ever read any other sci-fi book rather then the ones that dealt with the SW universe. Amazon recommended this series to me based on my purchases and after putting it off for a long time I went ahead and tried it out. I liked it. The story is good, fast moving and has suspense and action like a Star Wars novel. Kane and Grant are likable characters and for a while there I thought were more then just friends, who knows? Bridget looks like Mara Jade Skywalker's sister and is sexy and tough. The villains are a mixture of human and alien and control the various cities that have surfaced after the destruction of Earth. Basically the story takes place two centuries after a nuclear war has destroyed most of earth and has left it a wasteland. However humanity or some form of it has returned but is entirely controled by mysterious rulers known as Barrens. Those who are useful and do not have any defects live within the cities, those who are not and are deformed in some way live in the outlands, but things are not that simple and for Kane and Grant who are part of the Barren's police force they are about to discover terrible secrets. If you like Sci-fi and action packed books you will enjoy Exile to hell; recommended.

Synopsis
WILD RIVER -- MADDENING MEN...WINSOME WOMEN AND THE UNTAMED LAND THEY LIVE IN ALL ADD UP TO LOVE

Rancher Kegan McPherson was as harsh and unforgiving as the Oregon wilds, with a disposition that matched a bucking bronco. Though all too familiar with Keegan's unyielding nature, Beth Ralston dared to come home- to brave the land that was her heritage- and the man who was her soul.

But Keegan was truly a wild McPherson, with a fire in his gut, stone in his heart- and a bone deep distrust of Elizabeth Ralston. Once, they'd bridged their ancestral rivalry with lovemaking that touched the stars. Now, between them lay this no-man'd land... where only eagles dared to soar.

THE TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS OF BEING QUEEN...
Jean Plaidy, also known to her legion of fans as Victoria Holt, was a prolific writer of historical fiction. In this, her ninth volume in her "Queens of England" series of books, she relates the first person narrative of a little known Queen, Catherine of Braganza, who married Charles II of England. Together, they led England during the restoration of the monarchy, after the death of Oliver Cromwell saw the end of Puritan rule in England.

The marriage of Catherine of Braganza, who was from Portugal, to the newly restored King of England, Charles II, was a purely political alliance. Catherine was the daughter of King Juan IV of Portugal, who had previously been known as the Duke of Braganza, a vassal of Spain, as Spain had invaded Portugal in his father's time. When Catherine was five, after sixty years under Spanish rule, her father drove out the Spaniards and assumed his rightful role. His rule was a tenuous one, however, as the only foreign countries who recognized Juan IV as King of Portugal were France and England, who were enemies of Spain, at the time. The Pope, however, under the thumb of the Spaniards, did not, and other countries followed suit.

When Catherine, the Infanta of Portugal, was about eighteen years of age, her father died, leaving her mother, Donna Luiza, Queen Regent, of Portugal, as her brother, Alfonso, was only thirteen years old. Shortly thereafter, in the year 1658, Cromwell died, and within two years, Charles II of England was restored to his throne. Donna Luiza sought the marriage of her daughter, Catherine, to Charles II, as a way of being able to shore up her defenses against the ever pervasive threat of Spanish subjugation. By the time Catherine was twenty two, she was married to the thirty year old King of England.

Catherine was a Catholic Queen in a Protestant England that had never forgotten the cruelties of their last Catholic ruler, Mary Tudor, also known as "Blody Mary", for her excesses againt those of the Protestant faith. Consequently, the English were cool in their reception of Catherine. Moreover, she was married to a King who was a natural philanderer and whose amorous escapades with the beautiful, though notorious, Lady Castlemaine, as well as with the cockney actress, Nell Gwynne, among others, would cause her much heartache.

When Catherine failed to produce an heir, and it became clear that she was barren, there was much political intrigue in hopes that Charles II would divorce her and marry someone with whom he could beget an heir. That the King was capable of doing so was evident from the number of children he begat with his mistresses. Still, this merry monarch, much beloved by his people who viewed his amorous escapes with amusement, refused to discard his faithful and loyal wife, despite the fact that the public reviled her.

The author weaves a compelling, first person narrative of a Queen whose personal travails are little known. Against a backdrop of historical events, political intrigues, and well known personages, her story artfully unfolds, capturing the imagination of the reader. Hers is a story all too familiar. It is the story of a young noblewoman whose personal happines is subjugated to matters of state. Well written, it is a somewhat romaticized account of a life lived in the shadow of political expediency, and its pathos will keep the reader turning the pages.

The power of eagles will really bring out the power in you
Well, let's cut to the point here. It's a good book. It's got a great idea to it. It uses Eagles as a metaphor, to relate the way they live their lives to our own individual accomplishment in our lives. This is the second book I have read of Towery's. The first one I read was the Wisdom of Wolves. Towery divides the books into chapters on several different topics - symbolism, vision, celebration, mentoring, teamwork - and so on and so forth. They are all very general topics.

I didn't like how Towery was quoting 7 year olds and such alike saying stuff like - 'When I think of the eagle, I always think of my dad because he's going places.' I really didn't see a point to this.

But I will use it for various papers I write at uni, and I thank you Mr.Towery for writing this book - very interesting indeed. Your writing is on a personal basis - and I suppose thats what made me buy the second book. I appreciate your personal signature at the beginning of the books too! Keep up the good work!

An interesting concept. Give it a try.

N.B.
What a great surprise this book was! Reminded me of a Tom Clancy book, only shorter, a quicker read. Couldn't put it down. More than just a fast-paced, action adventure story. Raised some provocative and timely questions about responding to terrorists. Subtle humor. Some political and social commentary. Author proceeds to help Afghan kids? Great idea!

Only this way can they learn the greatest secret of the eagle clan. This is a book I enjoied and am pretty sure anyone else would enjoy it to.

Great audio book for the car
Once I tuned into the voice and adjusted the knobs on the tape player, this proved to be an excellent choice for in-the-car reading. The stories are reasonably short (one cassette each, as a rule) and quite entertaining. There's not much of the left-wing propaganda that comes out in the television series. This is just Rumpole using his ingenuity and accumulated experience to deal with an assortment of cases, from the woman accused of pushing her husband off their yacht to the policeman accused of taking bribes. There's even a case that Rumpole regrets winning when he realizes his client is guilty after all!

Good stuff, and I hope to listen to numerous additional tapes like this one.

Really Great book!
You ever wanted to know why drums are so important in a pagan circles?. You ever wonder why pagans use drums to reach to the God/Goddess?. Ms. Telesco's book "Sacred Beat" has really filled in the gap of the "why?"..the beat is important to many pagans. A lot of great info and history. A must read for all wiccan/pagans alike, and one of Ms. Telesco's better books on the market today. Well worth the money and time!
