Eagles Roar: Air Combat with the Eagle Squadron in WW II
The book appears to be more ficton than fact. According to Vern Haugland in his book "THE EAGLES' WAR", much of the action the author attributed to himself occurred after the author had returned to the United States in March 1941.

A Look of Eagles; A Book to Break the Heart
I aquired this book on a whim because it was about horses and the price was right. I thought I was buying a nice children's book, that I could read to the children I care for.

It starts out nicely. It seems to be a pleasant story about a boy and his grandfather who are down on theire luck finding that special racehorse, a beautiful gray yearling called 'The Cat'. But just when you think things are going great, tragedy strikes. And just keeps striking, right to the very end.

The ending left me upset, angry and in tears, and makes me mist back up everytime I think of it. This book is a senseless tragedy, and unnessacarily sad, in my opinion. I am very glad I read it before bringing it to the children.

I do not recommend A Look of Eagles for children under 14, and even if you are over that age, all I can say, is it will only upset you.

Not my cup of tea
I was a little disapointed with the book. I was looking more of a story of the action of the 101st in the Battle of the Budge, not a pictorial of the current 101st. The photos are good, but not what I had in mind.

I struggled to read the whole thing
For a book touted as "true" and "the way it happened" this book is so full of errors I had to force myself to read the entire book. Page after page is filled with historical mistakes. Not unusual for a novel, but the author insists she has her facts straight. She doesn't. She just tells it like she wants to. She puts historical characters in places where they weren't time and time again, invents letters and diary entries, and continually twists history. Frankly, the truth is much more interesting.

Not worth it.
This is one of the few SF novels I quit reading before reaching the end... when I reached page 200 or so and still nothing interesting or significant had happened, I said, "That's it."

What is this?
Reading this book was a total waste of time. Nobody wants to read something that was written about something that happened so long ago. Personaly I don't know what was going through the author's mind as he stuck this massive confusion of words together and tried to call it a book.I will never again invest my time in reading a book writen by a clown like Donald Gordon Payne.
