An excellent home-management book
This is an excellent get-started book for those who are discouraged about getting their home under control. I first read this book ten years ago when I was a newlywed, and it was a real encouragement to me. You will find creative ways to organize and get control of clutter; manage your time; kid-friendly chore ideas and age-appropriate chore charts; super ideas on how to save money; nutrition information and how to eat smart, etc. It has a fresh, creative, no-nonsense approach to making the most of your time, money, and resources. It's super for those of us who have not had a lot of practical training in good home management and great for those who have. I find it a great motivator every time I read it! It encourages you to roll up your sleeves and get started!

Fran Hamerstrom: a peer to Rachel Carson
This beatifully written biography describes the early life and career of wildlife biologist Frances Hamerstrom, the first female graduate student of Aldo Leopold (author of A Sand County Almanac) and pioneer in the field of wildlife biology. Hamerstrom's account describes her upbringing in Boston in the early 1900's, her marriage to Frederick Hamerstrom and their joint careers as graduate students, and wildlife biologists in Wisconsin. Filled with humor, you will laugh to read of her transition as a teenager in Brookline sneaking out to go ballroom dancing to that of a dedicated biologist. Even the biology will make you laugh as she describes trying to capture a hawk by getting it to land on a fencepost-- and 'decorating' the rest of the fenceposts with bouquets of goldenrod to make them un-land-upon-able. A great read!

A terrific example of historical fiction.
A wonderful accomplishment. The story itself is historically accurate in an admirable way, and you feel an attachment to the well-developed characters. A wonderful read and a welcome addition to the 1889 Johnstown Flood literature.

Artistic Ice
Toller Cranston is artist both on ice and on canvas, and this book perfectly captures the essence of his bizarre talents.

It is an irresistible mixture of autobiography, sketches, poems, paintings, humour and tongue-in-cheek observations. One is left with the feeling that, by reading this book, one has entered Mr Cranston's rarified world - or, as he would describe it, one has entered the Fourth Dimension.

Ice, as an art form, burst into prominence in the late Seventies, with the advent of two artistic giants - Britain's John Curry and Canada's Toller Cranston. Of the two, Toller Cranston was the true innovator - never afraid to explore new directions and never afraid of failure. These are the qualities he brings to this absorbing book, and the results are dazzling.

girl age of 15
I thought this book was very interesting and how iut told about the past and and how families earned a living. And how children had fun when they didn't have things that children today have.

Appreciation
Elva was the person who showed me and thought me that I 'v forgotten my appreciation for whom I love. She explained by, giving her life as an example or guide, how to be sad and happy in the same time. Actually,In my life I had gotten most of my needs from my parents yet I didn't know or realize how they work hard to get them. Life for me was just to take but not to give even a thanks for who gave me. Elva's book addressed my life as being grateful for my parents and all my family who took care of me. However, I knew that having migrant family is not shame and I'm no longer thinking about it in the negative way. My family overcome the disadvantages of their background, discovered their true talents, and, in the process, found their selves as I did.

elva's barefoot heart
i was amazed. i cried. it is so sad. i believe that we all kids should read this book. it gives us ideas about how different lives people have. the book, batefoot heart shows how rough migrant life Elva and her family had. while her family moved back and forth to the minesota and wisconsin beat fields, her family never had nice house and enough food. novertheless, her family never gave up their future and dream. elva studied hard and got her dream came ture. she successfuly graduated form Standford university and got a job in IBM. however, she realized that she has an empty heart. later on, i tried to find her traces, her migrant childhood and she found her barefoot heart.

Also known as "Science and Religion"a food for thought book
To anyone intrigued about how Western scientific observations and Vedanta philosophy can be related, this book is an excellent starter.
The book attempts to convey to the reader how religion and science need not necessarily conflict in their aims and offers ample reasons for why. One interesting chapter is about a type of faith and Reason and another 'homeostasis and the human consciousness' is related to an existential purpose.
Lastly it offers a way to moral health for human society as a whole, irrespective of belief or ideology.
i personally recommend this book for those who are unsatisfied or cynical about the aims of science and religion and the purpose of human life.
If anything detracts from the book, it could present its findings in a more critical, analytical, less eulogizing fashion at times. however for those sincere in their reading this should detract little from what Swami Ranganathananda`s book has to offer.

wonderful book about pioneer Alaska
The historic town of Eagle, Alaska, is literally at the end of the road, over a hundred miles of rugged gravel Taylor Highway from the Alaska Highway. Nonetheless, it is a major destination for tourists who brave the road, or who come down the Yukon River from Dawson City, due to its wonderful museum, historic buildings and artifacts, and outstanding guided tours.

Elva Scott of the Eagle Historic Society & Museum has presented a collection of essays about the history of Eagle and the pioneers who built it. Here you can read about Erwin (Nimrod) Robertson, the only man who ever ate a grizzly bear with its own teeth, and Judge James Wickersham who brought law and order to the lawless frontier.

A must-read for anyone interested in history.

One of the Best Biographys I have Read!
I am 11 years old I read this book for my book report. "On and Off the Ice" had plenty of funny stories about Dorthy Hammil's skating career. The only problem with this book is that it barely talks about Dorthy Hammil's life "off the ice." In the end I got points taken off on my book report because I only told about her life as a figure skater. Some of you will be interested in the fact she married Dean Martin Jr. son of Dean Martin who she met through Desi Arnez Jr. (Little Ricky from I Love Lucy) Overall I loved this book and I think that most people will like it.
