Ferrari Reviews

While there are a few new things in this book, there is no call to take a $50 book, put it in a $100 box, and expect good reviews. Instead buy Ferrari P3/412P by Huet and Carrieri, Ferrari P 1961-1973 by Cassuci, or the simple paperback Ferrari 'P' Series by Beehl. Marasca's book would be an excellent buy in ordinary hardback at a reasonable price. I kept a copy simply because of a replica under construction.

This is mainly a photo book. Out of 88 pages, about 43 are dedicated to photos of the same red coupe. And although it's a nice car, it's not a concours car. The engine, chassis, and suspension photos show a car that's been driven (as a Ferrari should be). Although there are a few interesting shots of prototype Daytonas, this is not the book for learning a great deal about the car. There are only 12 pages of text, plus a bit less than 4 pages of driving impressions from Paul Frere. You can learn more from old Road & Track issues.

If you want a Daytona book, try to find "The Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona" by Braden and Roush (Osprey ISBN 0-930880-07-2). That is the definitive reference for the Daytona.

At Amazon.com, the publish date of this book is March 1999 but it is actually November 1998.

This is only a small book and do not expect much detail in the history of Ferrari F1. If you are a busy man and just want a quick run through, this will help.

Ferrari F1 fans, skip this one. I don't think you will get any excitement from reading this book. If you look for content, this one is lacking. If you look for colorful pictures, there are only some average ones.

This is a 1998 reprint of a 1990 book. It has numerous typos, transposed photos, and little updating. Worst is that it treated the "Brocket collection" as an ongoing enterprise in 1998 when by then the lord had been doing time...

If you are looking for a pictoral chronology of Pininfarina's relationship with Ferrari, this book will cover the basics. Not much info. about the company or design work that goes on at Pininfarina-even though the title suggests it. Unfortunately, most of the pictures aren't real photos, but profile drawings instead. A little disappointing.
