Medicore at Best
This is a medicore book that spends quite a lot of time and chapters on programming Mindstorms with other langagues and APIs.

I found "Core LEGO MINDSTORMS Programming: Unleash the Power of the Java Platform" by Brian Bagnall to be a much better book. It is well suited to both beginning and advanced programers. It covers languages basics, but still provides much info to experienced Java developers.

It also includes detailed instructions and pictures describing on basic robotics...things like how to turn a rotary motion to a linear motion, how to change gear rations, how to build differentials, and much more.

There is also a detail chapter devoted to building your own homebrew sensors that even someone with little to no experience in electronics could easily build.

In short, this book is ok,

A good book, but might be a bit steep for non-programmers
Personally, I enjoy this book. It's beaten my expectations, and that's a rare treat.

However....

If you have never done any programming in a language like Java, Python, or C++, and if terms like "firmware", "embedded", etc. leave you feeling upset, this book may be a bit of a challenge.

But then again, if you are interested in moving beyond the capabilities of the software that shipped with your Lego Mindstorms kit, this may be precisely what you want.

Also, if you have been trying to learn some Java but haven't found a project "fun" enough to sustain your interest, this book and a Mindstorms kit may thrill you.

where's the new addition?
This seems to have alot of info and is well organized but this is the 1999 addition with 1998 schedules and ads. Things change pretty quickly with our community - we need an update.

What to do?
This book is an excellent source of travel for women! It includes accomodations, tours, outdoor activities, etc. This is a "must buy" for women.

Very bad book
This book is of poor quality.... both content wise as well as production wise. It fell apart after reading it two times already. It is just a bunch of old photos that you can easily get in a less expensive book. DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK!

An excellent Ferrari book
Fifty Years of Ferrari has been written to celebrate Ferrari's long competition history in Grand Prix and Sports Car championships. It is an outstanding book; detailed, interesting, and well presented. The pictures are good quality and relevant. Alan Henry has obviously gone to a lot of trouble to write and organize this book, and the work has paid off with glorious results. I would recommend Fifty Years of Ferrari to all Ferrari enthusiasts who are interested in Ferrari's long and illustrious racing history.

Good Historical Review
An excellent historical review at first glance. 8-10 photos useful to detail modelers and technical enthusiasts. Many excellent on track photos of various car numbers and configurations. More technical material would have been useful.

Great book for twelve-year-olds
A kid interested in some basic info about Ferrari's history would enjoy this book. An adult looking for a serious overview of vintage Ferrari GTs would be best advised to look elsewhere -- Antoine Prunet's book "Ferrari Legend: The Road Cars" (available from Amazon) is a good choice. The pictures in this book aren't great, the text is superficial...END

Unique historical information about the Mugello track...
This Italian and English language book covers the history of the infamous Mugello track now owned by Ferrari SpA. It includes a number of historical photos from the early days of the track and more recent photos from Ferrari Club Italia's Mugello meet.

For some this may be an interesting book, particularly if you are curious about the track's history. It includes a large number of unique photos detailing the track's construction, some interesting bits on the history of racing in the area before the track was created, and the describes the issues involved in the design of the track.

Unfortunately, I noticed several errors in the identification of different Ferrari models and therefore I'm not sure that the historical information about the track can be completely trusted. If you are interested in the track's history or are filling in a complete historical Ferrari library I'd recommend purchasing this book, otherwise leave it for another time...

Good Overview
This book provides a good overview of Ferrari road cars. It presents the history in a logical fashion and covers just about all the cars in the line and clearly delineates models. Some cars get more coverage than others and some get short changed. I did not like the excessive number of black and white photo's (I think it is a crime to show a Ferrari in B&W) but there are color photos as well, just not enough. Overall a good book, though perhaps too expensive.

Malaysia Diving Guide (Diving Guides)
Published in Paperback by Airlife Publishing Ltd (April, 1997)
Authors: Andrea Ferrari and Antonella Ferrari
Amazon base price: $
Used price: $16.95
Average review score:

Don't bother with this one!
According to the book's front cover - this guide was written by two people who's names appear one above the other. The top name is "Andrea E Antonella" and below this is the single surname "Ferrari." Inside, however, I discover the authors to be Andrea "and" Antonella Ferrari. One of the many problems with this series of books is very poor translation from the Italian language into what can only be described as "Italian English." Much is lost in that translation and, if they can't even get the authors' names right on the front cover, it does not bode well at all. Sadly, the reader will soon realise, like so many of the books in this series, this book needs a completely rewrite.

Malaysia Diving Guide is another book in that large A4 format with which divers have become familiar. The contents page reveals an overall introduction followed by 26 specific dive sites arranged under the headings; Pulau Sipadan, Pulau Mabul and Kapalai, Layang Layang, Abdul Rahman National Park, The Labuan Wrecks (under which heading several wrecks are mentioned in passing - but only one wreck is described in detail!), a curious assortment of items covered under the penultimate chapter entitled "Dives in the Peninsular Malaysia" (sounds like a hotel!) and the publisher's customary final chapter on local fish.

Each section commences with yet more introductions - after which each specific dive site is described with maps (although these might have been printed the right way up - with "N" at the top of the page!), a two-page artists impression of the entire site and written narrative. The book is well supported with page after page of very good photographs - even though some of these are clearly upside down! Dear oh dear!

What is "missing" from the book, however, brings into question it's credibility as a serious piece of work because none of the vital information so essential to the modern, discerning, travelling diver is included. There is no information about; travel agencies, airlines, airport tax, tourist boards, hotels, diving facilities, safari boats, available equipment, what to bring, what to wear, electricity, currency, language, time differences, photography, local traders - and if I missed anything, this book missed everything! In short, this so-called Diving Guide is nothing more than a collection of pretty pictures of pretty dive sites.

Finally, we come to the chapter dedicated to fish life. Sadly, this too is revealed as a flawed piece of work. In this instance, there are 117 common species of fish each drawn by the publisher's resident artist. Whilst some might think this is nothing more than a means of padding out the book - at the expense of the aforementioned vital information, I made a direct comparison with the fishes drawn and described in this book with those from other titles from this same publisher. I was truly amazed to discover so many of the same pictures being used in those other titles - but that these fish have different names in different books. Padding or what?

The book's one redeeming feature, however, remains a very high standard of photography - for which it retains a one star rating. What a pity such excellent photography has been wasted on such an abysmal product.

Ultimate Malaysia Diving Guide
Bearing in mind that this is a Diving Guide, the authors show very detailed expectations at each dive site in East Malaysia. From the map of the dive site and its surroundings, to illustrations of what to expect from 0-30m at that site, as well as drawing of route diver should take from start to finish, along with pictures of marine life and write up pertaining to respective dive sites, the book is very good in preparing the diver for the dives and which ones to choose from.

This book practically replaces the mind of the divemasters as it can allow you to know what to expect and how to dive a particular site. Having said that, it's always recommended that you go with a divemaster.

Expect no more than an illustrated DIVING GUIDE to East Malaysia dive sites. This book can be better improved if these drawings were extended to dive locations in Penisular Malaysia, which in this case, it only has a write up and few pictures of marine life.
