Medicore at Best
A good book, but might be a bit steep for non-programmersHowever....
If you have never done any programming in a language like Java, Python, or C++, and if terms like "firmware", "embedded", etc. leave you feeling upset, this book may be a bit of a challenge.
But then again, if you are interested in moving beyond the capabilities of the software that shipped with your Lego Mindstorms kit, this may be precisely what you want.
Also, if you have been trying to learn some Java but haven't found a project "fun" enough to sustain your interest, this book and a Mindstorms kit may thrill you.

Great book for twelve-year-olds

Unique historical information about the Mugello track...For some this may be an interesting book, particularly if you are curious about the track's history. It includes a large number of unique photos detailing the track's construction, some interesting bits on the history of racing in the area before the track was created, and the describes the issues involved in the design of the track.
Unfortunately, I noticed several errors in the identification of different Ferrari models and therefore I'm not sure that the historical information about the track can be completely trusted. If you are interested in the track's history or are filling in a complete historical Ferrari library I'd recommend purchasing this book, otherwise leave it for another time...

Don't bother with this one!Malaysia Diving Guide is another book in that large A4 format with which divers have become familiar. The contents page reveals an overall introduction followed by 26 specific dive sites arranged under the headings; Pulau Sipadan, Pulau Mabul and Kapalai, Layang Layang, Abdul Rahman National Park, The Labuan Wrecks (under which heading several wrecks are mentioned in passing - but only one wreck is described in detail!), a curious assortment of items covered under the penultimate chapter entitled "Dives in the Peninsular Malaysia" (sounds like a hotel!) and the publisher's customary final chapter on local fish.
Each section commences with yet more introductions - after which each specific dive site is described with maps (although these might have been printed the right way up - with "N" at the top of the page!), a two-page artists impression of the entire site and written narrative. The book is well supported with page after page of very good photographs - even though some of these are clearly upside down! Dear oh dear!
What is "missing" from the book, however, brings into question it's credibility as a serious piece of work because none of the vital information so essential to the modern, discerning, travelling diver is included. There is no information about; travel agencies, airlines, airport tax, tourist boards, hotels, diving facilities, safari boats, available equipment, what to bring, what to wear, electricity, currency, language, time differences, photography, local traders - and if I missed anything, this book missed everything! In short, this so-called Diving Guide is nothing more than a collection of pretty pictures of pretty dive sites.
Finally, we come to the chapter dedicated to fish life. Sadly, this too is revealed as a flawed piece of work. In this instance, there are 117 common species of fish each drawn by the publisher's resident artist. Whilst some might think this is nothing more than a means of padding out the book - at the expense of the aforementioned vital information, I made a direct comparison with the fishes drawn and described in this book with those from other titles from this same publisher. I was truly amazed to discover so many of the same pictures being used in those other titles - but that these fish have different names in different books. Padding or what?
The book's one redeeming feature, however, remains a very high standard of photography - for which it retains a one star rating. What a pity such excellent photography has been wasted on such an abysmal product.

Ultimate Malaysia Diving GuideThis book practically replaces the mind of the divemasters as it can allow you to know what to expect and how to dive a particular site. Having said that, it's always recommended that you go with a divemaster.
Expect no more than an illustrated DIVING GUIDE to East Malaysia dive sites. This book can be better improved if these drawings were extended to dive locations in Penisular Malaysia, which in this case, it only has a write up and few pictures of marine life.
I found "Core LEGO MINDSTORMS Programming: Unleash the Power of the Java Platform" by Brian Bagnall to be a much better book. It is well suited to both beginning and advanced programers. It covers languages basics, but still provides much info to experienced Java developers.
It also includes detailed instructions and pictures describing on basic robotics...things like how to turn a rotary motion to a linear motion, how to change gear rations, how to build differentials, and much more.
There is also a detail chapter devoted to building your own homebrew sensors that even someone with little to no experience in electronics could easily build.
In short, this book is ok,
