An excellent collection
My four children and I loved reading this collection of stories from Arabia. Though I highly recommend any book by Mr. Lang, The Arabian Nights Entertainments is my favorite. Happy reading!

Factual, doesn't take sides, a fantastic read for skeptics
This book respects the natural skepticism of the reader and presents a factual account of Arthur Ford's professional and personal life. I was able to read the book only because of its refusal to take up the new-age banner, and instead present as many sides of each case as was feasible. Incredibly interesting reading.

Man, this is good!
Man,this is good! I mean better than Goosebumps (which to be perfectly honest I don't think is any good)! Still, though I'd like to talk about how good this is I really hate it when people don't talk about the plots when they review some thing so... well it's basically about these two kids who discover that a new kind of produce is turning people into plants. If you don't read this book you don't know what you're missing!

The Attorney's Guide to Stress Management

This book is a lifesaver for attorneys
If you are an attorney with absolutely no stress of any kind, you do not need this book. But for the rest, this book (and accompanying relaxation tape) is a godsend. It goes to the heart of the factors that cause stress for attorneys and lays out many effective ways to alleviate it. Dr. Ford shows great insight into the world of pressure and deadlines, as well as the sharp competitiveness of the profession. His easy to uderstand explanations of how stress affects us and ways to lower stressors are especially helpful. A really great book.

The Bible in Verse: A bird's-eye view of Scripture as obverved through the eyes of a poet

Great Addition to the Bible
This book is a great addition to the reading of the Bible in the home. Each chapter is summarized by a brief four-line poem. The meter is simple and the rhyming often predictable. But Mr. Ford's object was to make the content of each Bible chapter easier to learn and recall.

My family, each evening, gathers around the table where we take turns reading verses through one chapter of the Bible. We discuss its meaning and relevance to our lives. Then we read the poem for that chapter from Mr. Ford's book as a summary of what we've read. His rhymes are sometimes witty, but always true to the accounts of Scripture.

This book is also a source of family fun as we read several of his rhyming lines and leave out the last work of the rhyming second line and have the others guess the rhyming word.

In summary, while this book is not meant to be (nor could it be) a replacement for the Book of books, the Bible, it is a great companion to it. It encourages learning and enjoyment of the Scriptures.

Bottom-Line Training How to Design and Implement Successful
Ford successfully explains how to show bottom-line results for the five phases of improving human performance - analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation. The text is divided into these five areas with detailed information on how to implement each. Definitions clarify subtle differences, such as the difference between needs analysis and needs assessment. Comparisons of widely accepted practices are also helpful in allowing the reader to select the best method for their project. This book is a "must" on every trainer's/performance analyst's shelf!

Gorgeous Views of Vineyards, Wineries and Fields
California Wine Country is a most impressive guide.

In 1973, I worked in the wine industry and was given the assignment to visit every winery in California of any size. Since then, I haven't been able to duplicate the feat as the number of new and interesting wineries has expanded rapidly.

This book focuses on the highest quality winemakers in the Golden State, and gives you both an advance view and a sense of what's there before you visit. With this guide, you will vastly increase your enjoyment of touring wineries and vineyards by being able to pick from among the most interesting sites for you.

The photography represents a lot of visits to each area. I doubt if you could capture all of these views, variations in lighting and seasons in less than three years of visits. Even areas I know well I saw differently.

The book places about equal attention to the images of vineyards and the exteriors of wineries, many of which are magnificent structures to behold.

Mr. Leffingwell is not as talented a writer as he is a photographer. But his prose is more than adequate to extend your knowledge of the industry as he explains about the history of each region and winery. For detailed information on wine making, I suggest you supplement this book with other resources. There is a limited discussion of the process except as applied to super premium reds and whites. There is no mention of how sparkling wines are made.

The historical information is a little over focused on religion, Prohibition, the Depression and marketing.

I was pleased to see the extensive discussions of the microclimates in each area. Very nice!

I was disappointed not to find a better description of the wine qualities at each vineyard. Again, I suggest you supplement this book for that with one of the better wine guides.

I hope that Mr. Leffingwell will update this book quite frequently.

As a final test of how good this book is, my wife and I visited several of these areas last year around when the book was published. We used another guide, and had a wonderful time. However, if we had had this guide, I think we would have had a much better time . . . because we appear to have missed half of what we would have wanted to see.

A final word of caution: Contact the wineries directly to verify times for tours and tastings. The information here was different from what we discovered on site in July 2002 in a few cases.

Before you leave this wonderful volume, I suggest you consider where else a preview of what you are going to see adds a great deal to your enjoyment. What about a complimentary appetizer from the chef to whet your palate for what is to come?

Funny, funny, funny. What surprised me most was finding out it was based on actual events (meaning that they did go on a camping trip). I enjoy everytime I listen to it.

a great resource for a laboratory scientist
"The Chemist Companion" is a must for the laboratory scientist. It is an invaluable resource for everyday questions like recipes for solvent mixtures, cooling baths, cleaning baths, etc. The index is straightforward and easy to use. Much of the information is in easy-to-read tables. Information is referenced and clearly written. A valuable resource!
