Marijuana Not Guilty As Charged
After reading "Marijuana Not Guilty As Charged" I have decided to become active in this marijuana movement. This book made me realize that marijuana is a medicine. I wonder how long our federal government is going to be wrong(about medical marijuana) to try to prove that they are right. This book addresses their own DEA administrative judge Francis Young and his support of marijuana. David R. Ford also talks about the "steppingstone theory" and addresses the fact that marijuana was once legal in this country and what happened among many other issues. This book has changed a part of my life. I now know that I cannot sit back and let everyone else do the work in the marijuana movement I have to join the fight. Like David R. Ford, I too can do courageous things to help. This book is a must read. In the book David Ford dedicates a chapter to NORML(National Organization to Reform Marijuana Laws) and ten things that you can do to relegalize marijuana.
David R. Ford is so sure of the benefits of marijuana he offers a $50,000 reward to anyone who can scientifically prove marijuana is not medicine. I think this book is a must for the "non-users" of marijuana as well as the users to gain some insight into this misinformed subject. Read this book it's possible that it could help you make the quality of life better for someone you might know or for yourself.

Marijuana: Not Guilty As Charged
For anyone who wants to know the truth about marijuana, its benefits and the conspiricy to prevent its use by freedom-loving Americans, this book provides documented proof on those issues as well as many others. Every member of Congress should read it, so that they have the facts. Author Ford's research is impeccable, the way he offers it is both interesting and entertaining, and the information he gives us not only instills tolerance for those who use this beneficial medicine, but provides hope for any of us who may find ourselves at some future date in need of the benefits marijuana can provide. Hooray for Mr. Ford and those who know the difference between fact and fiction, truth and propaganda, and are not afraid to tell it to anyone willing to listen or read. Parents, especially, should read it, so that they are properly prepared to inform their children about marijuana when the time comes. And the time will come, because marijuana is here to stay. Unlike liquor, an "acceptable" drug that kills, marijuana is a medicine that kills only pain. It's an outstanding book and it stands out from all the lies we have been given in the past and are still being given today.

Let the Truth Be Known!!
I've been working with Cannabis Action Network for about 3 years now. I've recently walked away from doing any political work due to an armed robbery I fell victim to due to being in the wrong place at the wrong time. You would think that would have ended any relations I had with Marijuana at that point.

It's an interesting story but I wanted to say how after reading MARIJUANA: NOT GUILTY AS CHARGED and actually feeling a taste of the REAL drug war that does exist in America, this book helped me to not feel alone and to make sense of what is happening all around us that we take for granted or wish to not see and give our power over to those in Authority in whom we "feel" should be giving us the truth on drugs. When in most cases the story is far from the "truth" in America.

This book gave me encouragement to not be a VICTIM of the Crime of not knowing the facts on Marijuana and gave me a conviction in my heart to let the world know they're is healing, growth, and most importantly Hemp that can bring an impoverished land back to a land of healthy, strong, individually stable people.

After the robbery and learning so much about the legalization of marijuana from short excerpt of one page papers and people I came across, I then found this book. I had many books to choose from. this book seemed to have the right information and well spoken best of all it was all in one great book. I've managed to help many people while working as the Office Administrator for CAN after reading this book. Thank you David Ford for taking the time to reach all of the people you interviewed!

After talking to people across the US over the phone on counseling them for marijuana use while working at CAN I saw the overwhelming need of Americans who felt hopeless and alone due to pressures of family, church and friends.

I grew up living on the East Coast and this book helped convince me how wrong I've been in my thinking but that it's due to my upbringing and the way we are all taught in school and life.
This may be something we have all heard before but the way David Ford lays out the facts and in a well understood way brings one to a new state of enlightenment.

Fascinating & stimulating
This book gives insight in many discussions on business, theology and philosophy among five extraordinary people. But I find it regrettable that the belief of Edison, Ford & Lindbergh in reincarnation is rather superficially worked out. Perhaps because of the religious stance of his wife and the author.
I deem it also regrettable that no mention is made of the membership of Edison of the Theosophical Society while it is obvious he was much inspired by the books of Blavatsky.
Apart from a few inaccuracies (on p. 10: Edison is attributed to have received as a gift every new car that ran from the Ford assembly line, among which the first V8. But the V8 was introduced after the demise of this great inventor, p. 100) I find this book very readable and stimulating.

A Fascinating Book on the Lives of Five Great Men
This book originally caught my eye as an addition to another book I read called Edison: A Life of Invention by Paul Israel. I wanted a book that would cover a little more of Edison's personal life, and this book did just that. However, James Newton's close, dedicated friendships with all of these great men of the twentieth century is truly amazing, and I learned more than I would probably learn otherwise about some of these important historical figures.

The entire book is fascinating, and surely different parts will appeal to different readers. I was particularly enchanted with a poignant description of how Charles Lindbergh handled dying as he lay on his deathbed. I was also fascinated with how environmentally conscientious some of these men were, particularly Edison and Lindbergh, but also Ford. For example, Ford was very interested in making automobile parts out of soybeans in order to reduce the need for metal parts. It seems that all of these men had numerous ideas and ideas for inventions that were way ahead of their time - perhaps some of them still are.

Newton's writing is quite good, and I only have one very minor criticism: it seems that he preaches a little bit and dwells on the religious facet of his relationships with these people. Of course, I'm sure this was a very important part of his relationship with these men and their families, but it seems that there is a grand, overarching agenda he has in constantly illustrating their connection to God and religion.

If you are interested in any of these historical figures and their fascinating relationships with each other, this book is definitely the best book you will find on the subject.

An Excellent read
While reading this book, I was fascinated by each of these men but even more so of James Newton, the author. Reading this book I found that it was full of history, humor, and unfounded wisdom. I began taking notes for my own personal edification. This is truly a must read.

good pep talk; not useful as a reference guide
This book is good, but it is not a useful substitute for a more traditional pregnancy guide (I like the week-by-week guides). There are no illustrations (aside from a few photographs of post-partum moms exercising to get back into shape). The book focuses more on how you, as a mom, can cope with all of the changes, rather than focusing on what is going on with the developing baby during pregnancy. It does fill a unique niche in pregnancy books, but I wouldn't rely on it as a primary source of information. It is more useful as a source of emotional support.

Very Comforting
Sometimes I read the reviews after I read a book to see if I agree with the reviewer. Right now I'm wondering if the reviewer from Library Review and I read the same book. I thought this was a great book that I plan to keep around. At 37 I was quite worried about my health when I found out I was pregnant--it was NOT a planned pregnancy and took me completely by surprise. Midlife Motherhood raised my spirits and offered sound up-to-date information to ease my fears. I recommend it to any woman contemplating having a child after 35--or was completely surprised by it, like me.

Listen to a sister...
It's a great book. Answered all my questions, and then some.

Another Ford romance
We met Anthia Jenkins and Dexter Washington in Bette Ford's 1995 novel, "Forever After". In this latest story, she has incorporated couples from her previous books and has managed to bring us another tale of romance and insight in to the Detroit scene. When las hear, Anthia's sixteen-year old son Jeffrey has been shot in the back by a business owner who mistakenly thought he was robbing him. Jeffrey is now a nineteen year-old college student relearned how to walk after years of therapy. Anthia has finally given up her job as a legal secretary and realized her dream of owning own doll-making business specializing in one-of-a-kind orginals. Dexter, the director of the community center where Jeffrey belongs, has been a source of strength and guidance to Anthia, but over the years she has desire more a loving relationship with this bronze god. A shared kiss one night seems to have left Dexter with feelings for Anthia that he had been trying to deny. His past is such a tangled webe that he fears rejection but unable to stay away any longer he turns up on her doorstep wanting to rekindle their friendship. Of course Diane and Charles Randol from "Forever After" see what's going and eventually Anthia and Dexter must admit they mean more to each other than just friends. Meanwhile Dexter must dealing with the concerns of the center, unwanted advances and past family problems. This book initially got off to a slow beginning but was well worth the end results

This was my first Bette Ford novel and I was not disappointe
I loved this novel! I used live in Detroit and I just loved the fact how she makes Detroit look more than just a crime capital of the world! And the characters were real people that have real problems and that can be solved realistically. I love Anthia and I just gaggled over Dexter. I felt like I knew him from a long time ago. She is a great author and I've discovered myself wanting to punch the lights out of both the the characters as the story evoled. The external characters made the book as well and I would like to see one with the son.

A Great Love Story
OK we learned that Dexter had feelings for Anthia in Bette's book "Forever After" now Bette brings together the two after Jeff has been released from the hospital and is now attending college. Anthia and Dex have become best friends and have falling in love with each other. After a shared kiss they can not think straight.

Anthia was tired of Dex always keeping to himself and never opening up to her. When she comfronts Dex about how she feels she learns of Dex's trouble past. But this does not change the way Anthia feels about him. It just makes her love him even more.

I thought Anthia and Dex would never get it together because they were both keeping their feelings from each other. I was truly happy with the ending when everything came together.

The secondary characters really help bring this book together. It would be nice to see a story on Anthia's son Jeff and Cora. And also on Dana and Jerome.

Go out and get this book and all of Bette's books. You will not be disappointed.

Meow tells it all
Pam being a cat "shrink" - she has shared here a wonderful collection of stories from her adventures of helping owners understand their wonderful whiskered friends. I originally bought this book as a gift for my mother-in-law, but I fell in love with it and bought another for myself. Be prepared to laugh and yet - there is one story that you had better have a tissue box handy. Pam writes in a way you feel as though you've tagged right along with her and you can feel those kitty cats just wrap themselves around your heart. A must read for every cat lover.

Excellent advice for cat lovers
Pam Johnson-Bennett offers excellent, common-sense advice for dealing with feline behavioral problems. The situations and solutions discussed in this book suggest that, no matter how bad your kitty's behavior, there is hope and light at the end of the tunnel. We humans just need to pay better attention to what our cat companions are telling us and to learn how to think like a cat. Johnson-Bennett is one of the best feline behaviorists around and this would be a great book to read if your cat has any issues. Highly recommended

hiss and tell: true stories from the files of a cat shrink
A wonderfully funny, easy to read book. Oh how true these stories and experiences are for cat lovers.

An excellent history lesson for young children
I teach Kindergarten in New York City. My students sat totally engrossed as I read the story of Ruby Bridge's struggle to gain an education in New Orleans, Louisiana.

After I finished the story they asked to hear it again. My five year students actually had a sophistated discussion about the moral wrongs of Ruby's experience. To quote one little boy, "But that's not right. It doesn't matter what someone looks like, they should be able to go to school."

My students totally got it! In January we learned about Martin Luther King, Jr. and they instantly connected the Civil Rights struggle lead by King to Ruby's experience of going to an integrated school. They also learned the value of education. It was an awesome experience.

I highly recommend this book to anyone with children or works with children.

True story of courage in a six year old girl
Wonderful, powerful, humbling true story of Ruby Bridges, a six year old African American girl in 1960, sent to integrate an elementary school in New Orleans. Children of the 1990's will be speechless with astonishment when they come to understand the ugliness of racism. Ruby's calm perseverance, academic commitment, and gracious forgiveness are powerful lessons for all of us, parents as well as children. MUST READ FOR MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY. Ruby's story makes it all make sense.

A wonderful young heroine
The story of Ruby Bridges is a beautiful tale depicting the courage of six year
old Ruby Bridges and how she became the first black child to segregate the
elementary school system in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her story is one of hope
and encouragement to not only African Americans but also to the entire human
race. It teaches perseverance, forgiveness, and hope and should be read by all
to give insight into our history.

As for the illustrations, George Ford used watercolor paints mixed with acrylic
inks and conventional drawing inks to create images that are beautiful and so
real looking they're life-like.

Kudos to both author and illustrator on a job well done. I look forward to
sharing this book with family, friends, and my own children.

Powerful Prayer a Must Read
Powerful Prayers is a Must Read Reading Powerful Prayers provides you amazingly simple examples of commuincating with God through personal everyday prayer. It opens the door to an otherwise complex arena of thought. The discussion between Larry King and Rabbi Katsof is sensitive and thought provoking. The interviews add incredible depth to the discussion. They also legitimize informal prayer, and the many different ways people have found to communicate with their respective spiritual beings. I recommend this book to everyone who is open to exlporing their individual communication with God. It is a must read. It has changed my entire understanding or paradigm in regards to my relationship with God outside of a house of worship.

Simply Powerful
Mr. King delved into the foundation of Spirituality and Religion and made simple an otherwise complex and controversial issue. The book focuses on the individual and his or her communication with God, while setting aside religious beliefs. I would like to recommend to friends who are too formal about prayers and to those who maybe agnostic such as Larry King in his book.

HELPS IN THE SEARCH FOR G-D
Interviewing famous people on this subject sounds a little haimisher, but it works. While you would expect some of the characters interviewed to have limited attention spans, the book is interesting and thoughtful. Thank you Larry and your rebbe friend.

The Deader the Better : A Leo Waterman Mystery

He should have stayed in Seattle
In order to create the fictional town of Steven Falls, the author has created an alternate world where the political boundaries and political organization are different, two towns have disappeared (replaced by the fictional town in a different location), the state police have taken over the county courthouse, and the sheriff's office is no longer in the county seat. Readers familiar with the real location may have problems with the novel. For people from outside the Puget Sound/ Olympic Peninsula area, it might be an interesting cops and robbers tale.

Seattle PI Leo Waterman has a friend who has acquired property to start a small resort and work as a fishing guide. He is an outsider in a small town, where locals have their own ideas for the property. Conflicts with the local red necks and power brokers turn lethal. Leo brings in an assortment of street people, thieves, and shadowy individuals to exact retribution. Leo is not a nice guy when you get on his wrong side.

The novel starts out on a different case before getting to the main plot, and meanders at some points. It is hard to say if anyone wins in the end as everyone, including Leo, gets banged up, and we seem to be left with a trail of broken bodies and shattered dreams. At best, the story would have a PG-13 rating.

This book rocked!!!
I love the Leo Waterman series. Everyone of them has been great. But I think I can safely say that this is my favorite yet.

Leo and his live in girlfriend visit some freinds who have bought some property in hopes of opening a resort. Beautiful little town, perfect location on the water. But things feel a little weird. After returning home, a few weeks later they discover the husband is dead. Leo being who he is wants to know why.

It turns into almost a caper from there on. Leo bringing in people who can do specific jobs for him to help nail those responsible.

A whole lot of fun to read, and And I would highly recommend this series, but this book in particular.

Jon Jordan

laugh out loud!
Do not read this book while sitting in the lunchroom at work! It looks very unprofessional to be laughing out loud when you are sitting at a table by yourself. Leo Waterman's unique view of how the system works, and how to work the system makes for a delightful read.

A shawl for everyone
This book was purchased for me as a gift. My favorites to knit have always been small items. That is, until I received this book. The pictures are beautiful, and the patterns are clear and easy to follow. Most of them come in both chart and written instructions. I have read the descriptions of the myths and legends surrounding these works of art over and over again. Also, there is a wide variety of shawls, from small triangles to very large squares! I have to mention that there is a few errors, and if you look online you can find the corrections. I would suggest that anyone who knits order this book....and be prepared to start knitting yourself a shawl!

Wow! Another great knitting book this year
This has been quite a year for great knitting books. And Cheryl Oberle's book on shawls is not to be missed.

The photography is really outstanding. Cheryl models her shawls in such a way to show the beauty of the shawl and at the same time make an artistic statement.

The shawls represented are quite varied; most are done, however, in sport weight yarn. This is convenient for those who don't want to attempt a project in cobweb-fine laceweight yarn. However, directions are given if you do want to change the yarn weight to suit your tastes.

The schematics include a layout of the shawl shape (oblong, diamond, triangle, etc) and the lace patterns are charted in many cases. There is a nice section on techniques.

All together, a really fine volume in the folk series from Interweave Press.

Outstanding
This is an excellent book with beautiful patterns. I love it. It has a brief history of traditions for each region and 25 gorgeous shawl patterns.
