Good reference for less than 8 bucksI liked this book because it's small and concise and it tells you just what you need to know. As a beginner golfer I learned all the essentials that are valid today even though this book was published back in 1964. I think some things in the book should be updated but I still keep it in my bag as reference. Great all around book for the beginner golfer and for the price.

bringing the heavens to earthThis is a glorious book for both its visuals and its reference material. Filled with color plates from earlier centuries and black and white schematics of almost every constellation you can think of. I found this book inspiring as an artist, and extremely helpful in sourcing some of the many myths and naming devices for the stars. I was fascinated, as was my 9 year old nephew.

Eleven fine books in one volume, great reading & a bargain! The title of this one could be a bit misleading and confusing. More accurately described as 11 shorter books or novellas, this one is a treasure trove of fine writing by wonderful writers (William Styron, Eudora Welty, Philip Roth, Ernest J. Gaines, Stanley Elkin, Jane Smiley and more). Arranged so that there is at least one story from each decade since the 40's, this book offers a look at some of the finest writing out there - not only from today but from years past.
This book is a bargain as well. With the price of books being so high these days, if you tried to buy these 11 books separately, you'd be hard-pressed to find them all for a price anywhere near the cost of this volume. Lots of wonderful reading and a great price to boot make this one an easy pick.

A tasty American BuffetA collection that clearly defines America's lasting contribution to the form. Richard Ford carefully canvasses the past fifty or so years of great, and often overlooked, writers. Missing, but not missed, are the staple short story writers like Hemingway, Faulkner, and Fitzgerald. But, the brilliance of this collection is that it traces the trajectory of what these pillars of the form initiated. From Baldwin's jazzy, layered "Sonny's Blues" to the raw and devestating "What They Carried" by Tim O'Brien this is a must have for writers and lovers of great writing.

wow, SJGames does it again...and absolutely blows me away with their Discworld supplement. before i read the Gurps books, i had never even heard of (let alone read) the Discworld book series or their author, Terry Prachett. now, of course, i am in love with the Disc. SJGames had disappointed me before with their attempts to adapt things for GURPS (the World of Darkness adaptations, in particular), but i could have read Gurps: Discworld, ignorign the rules, and still have laughed my ass off, marvelling at the imagination of Prachett and the beauty with which they condensed a huge (14 book) novel series into about 200 pages of humour, drama, adventure, and yes, stats. this is, of course, not to mention the absolutely GORGEOUS art littered about the insides. i don't know where they found Bill Kidby, but i hope they paid him enough to keep him interested in doing more work for Steve Jackson. basically, if oyu want a good sourcebook for the Discworld, well...world, if you want a book full of fabulous (and hilarious) fantasy art, or even if you want another GURPS book, make this it.
