Great Book!
I purchased this as a Christmas present to myself this year. It has become my favorite gift. I love Tanguy's paintings! Along with Miro', he was my favorite Surrealist. It's was good to see some pictures of the man and his life. Nice illustrations. Informative.

Beautiful Surreal Landscapes Abound!
I am by no means an "ART" person, but there are a few artists that tickle my untrained eye, and Tanguy is on top of my list.
This is a comprehensive and insightful look into the works of this underappreciated surreal artist. Move over DALI here comes Tanguy! Get this item while you can!!!

An essential volume for lovers of 20th Century art.
No library of 20th century art would be complete without this splendid overview of the life and work of French-American artist Yves Tanguy. The background and technical information is thouroughly researched and wonderfully written, and the illustrations, including the flawless color plates of the paintings, are sumptious and wonderfully reproduced. A very well-designed and well-made book, too. Buy it!

4/4: A Lrp's Narrative

Every word is true
Having been the first paltoon to go through training at Nha Thrang with the Special Forces once 51st Infantry LRRP was formed. I can honestly say Gary speaks the truth. Many of the incidents recorded in the book were shared with some of my fellow employees where I work at. To my surprise one afternoon, a friend presented me with a copy of the book. Many things that I had related to him were in the book. I am very glad the book was written. I had no idea that the unit was awarded so many awards for valor.

TELLING IT LIKE IT WAS
This book is a must for those interested in what really happened in LRP units in Vietnam. The bond that existed among these men and the sacrifices they would make for each other was what the LRP's were all about. Mr. Ford is the only credible author to come out of F/51st LRP, and his book, like those of Kenn Miller, Rey Martinez,Kregg Jorgensen and a small handful of others are must reads if you are either a military history buff, or just want to know the truth.

Roadrunner6
I find this book very imformative. Having been with a LRRP/RANGER (Echo 50/75) I think that the writer lived it, and knew just what he was talking about. Roadrunner6 out

To the point Job Search
This is an excellent job search manual for anyone who wants to get it done right. It takes years of experiences and nets it down to simple, directed steps. If you are looking for a book that is "fluff reduced" this is the book for you. Highly recommend it!!

We enthusiastically recommend this book
Bookstall 99 is proud to add "The Accelerated Job Search" to our list of recommended business and professional books. We look at many books, recommend very few, and our reviewers must be in total agreement before we issue our approvals. This book we felt was exceptional in it's use of resources, in-depth research, timliness, and ease of reading. It is the only book on job search we are recommending. Dr. Wayne Ford has done an excellent job in producing a complete text for the job hunter, regardless of the level of experience. He logically lays out a sequential approach to getting organized, setting up an effective strategy, and following proven methods in achieving success. A particularly well thought out book with the reader in mind.

This system works!
The system and techniques laid out in this book really work. The proof is that it helped me find a very good job in a short amount of time. It gives you the best techniques available step by step. I admit I bought 7 books when I started looking for a job. This is by far the best one. Everything I did improved, from my resume to time management to organizing. I am enthusiastically recommending this book to any and all job hunters.

The American Axis: Henry Ford, Charles Lindbergh, and the Rise of the Third Reich
Published in Hardcover by St. Martin's Press (August, 2003)
Author: Max Wallace
Amazon base price: $19.57
List price: $27.95 (that's 30% off!)
Average review score:

Will the real Mr. Ford & Mr. Linbergh please stand up?
In his new book, The American Axis, Max Wallace has painted a portrait of two Americans that people seem to love, but had a very sinister past.

Henry Ford, the American manufacturing genius, and Charles Lindbergh, the aviation hero, are the subjects of this book. Both Ford and Lindbergh are revered by much of the American populous, but Wallace has shown us the facts about the darker sides of their respective personalities.

Henry Ford has always been thought to be a red-blooded American, a capitalist with a love for the United States. In the book, however, his anti-Semitic side is exposed and the ensuing discussion reveals that Ford was anything but all-American. He was, as the title of the book suggests, a person that helped the Third Reich's rise to power in Wartime Europe. By promoting anti-Semitism and manufacturing goods for the Nazi war machine, Ford has demonstrated that his true loyalty laid only to himself.

Charles Lindbergh is generally only recognized as the "hero" that flew the first non-stop transatlantic flight. In reality, however, this book depicts him as a naive person that was easily swayed and duped into believing that the Nazi cause was an appropriate movement to follow. His beliefs appear to have been easily manipulated by others around him, thus being duped into passing incorrect information to the Allied government about the strength of the Nazi military before war was declared.

Overall, Wallace has done a very good job of revisiting these two American figures and demonstrating that their reputations are in need of a thorough review. I would recommend this book to anyone that has an interest in behind the scenes activites of World War II. Any Ford or Lindbergh fan should also read the book, but be conscious of the fact that widely held conceptions of these two men may be dashed by the facts presented and conclusions drawn.

An Important Book
Every so often you read a book that you want everybody you know to read as soon as possible. This is the one. America's most eminent historian, Arthur Schlesinger Jr., endorsed this book so it is obviously historically sound. But it is also a great read from beginning to end as you learn how these two famous Americans genuflected at Hitler's altar.
If the Japanese hadn't made the foolish mistake of bombing Pearl Harbor and drawing America into the war, it seems probable that the Nazis would have achieved their goal of swallowing Europe without any interference from Roosevelt. And, as this book reveals, it was largely because of the lobbying by these two horrendous men, who both dreamed of the day the Nazis controlled half the world.
I learned a lot from this book that surprised me. One thing I found particularly intriguing is that whenever Henry Ford and Charles Lindbergh publicly attacked the Jews, they were roundly condemned by both Jews and Gentiles for their dangerous views. I never realized how many non-Jews were dismayed by anti-Semitism even before world war two. Only the fanatical anti-Semites and American fascists supported their poisonous hate campaigns.
But, this book shows that Ford and Lindbergh were at their most dangerous when they spoke in a sort of code that allowed them to go undetected by the radar of public opinion. Ford spoke of the "International financiers' while Lindbergh warned of the "forces that control our nation's press". Anybody with a brain knew who they were talking about but they could get away with it as long as they never said the magic word, "Jew" that would set off a fury. They both learned this lesson quickly and helped Adolf and his gang almost take over the world.
It turns out, by the way, that the Ford Motor Company is not quite the innocent bystander that they would have people believe when it came to the use of concentration camp labor and manufacturing of Nazi arms at its German plant. It is shocking how much the company did to bring about a Nazi victory. At one point they even refused to sell arms to England while the British faced a Nazi invasion, while at the same time they were turning out thousands of military vehicles for the Third Reich. It seems that the executives at their Detroit headquarters knew all about this and encouraged it to continue. I know what kind of car I'm never buying again!

And, like icing on the cake, we learn that Dr. Seuss was more than just a kids author. He started out at a New York paper called PM drawing cartoons attacking Charles Lindbergh's fascist sympathies. Interesting!

"Heroes" exposed
The author was the first unauthorized biographer allowed into the Lindbergh archives at Yale and he discovered how much damning information Scott Berg left out of his own authorized biography a few years ago. He finds all kinds of letters and unpublished writings revealing that Lindbergh's antisemitism and Nazi sympathies were much more serious than portrayed by Berg. But he says that Lindbergh was not actually a Nazi. Rather he was used by them to keep the US out of World War 2 so that Hitler could achieve his goal of taking over Europe. He describes Lindbergh as an "enigma" who had Jewish friends but thought there were good jews and bad jews. The bad jews supposedly controlled the press, the government and Hollywood and were secretly plotting to get the United States into World War 2. Well, it turns out that it was the Nazis who were secretly plotting, plotting to install Lindbergh as the head of the US isolationist movement (probably without Lindbergh's knowledge, but you never know.)

Ford comes off as a rather stupid bigot who also believed there were "good Jews" and "bad" International Jews. Hitler said that his own hatred of the Jews was inspired by Ford, who he called "my inspiration."

The strongest part of this book is the investigation into the Ford Motor Company's collaboration with Hitler, even after America entered the war. He discovered that Edsel Ford, Henry's only son, was about to be indicted by the American government for "Trading with the Enemy" at the time of his death in the middle of the war. The company used slave labor to rack up huge profits by selling Hitler miltary vehicles and armaments that were used to kill Allied and American soldiers. It's a shameful chapter in American history.

I guess my only complaint is that there's not enough about what made Henry Ford tick. It's a bit of a cop out to call him an "enigma." There's alot more about Lindbergh's personality than his friend Ford, which is unfortunate, although they both had very similar views about the Jews. Unlike Lindbergh, however, Ford was not a white supremacist. While Lindy hated blacks and Asians and considered all non-whites inferior, Ford treated blacks very well. He seemed to hate only the Jews.

Good Medicine, Great Sex!: How Marijuana Brought Me Creativity, Passion, and Prosperity

With a Song in His Heart
I raced through your fine new book with strong feelings, memories of my beautiful stays in Hawaii, and Northern California, I feel empathy for Dennis Hunter and the tragic situation he and others face for their courage. The lies and misery caused by and the greed of those in power must cease. 'Good Medicine, Great Sex' is extremely timely, immensely important, enthralling and an inspirational autobiography.

Dave, Godspeed to you!

Greg Blunt

An Autobiographical, Provacative and Stimulating Romp
Author Ford is amazing! Reading "Good Medicine, Great Sex" proves we don't have to smoke pot to get high -- just reading about it can get the adrenalin flowing. Ford takes us on a whirlwind spin through a good portion of his electrifying and titillating life experiences, stopping just long enough at times to give us the facts about marijuana and sex. If only Big Brother Government would get off its dishonest soap box and give us the truth, we could all be more creative, more passionate and more prosperous. Why should Ford have it all? Why not us, too?

You won't be able to put this down!
I picked up "Good Medicine, Great Sex!" before leaving on a flight from San Francisco, California to Rome, Italy. I decided to read the first few pages before going to sleep. I didn't stop until I had finished it. The trip across the Atlantic seemed to pass in minutes.

I loved this book. Dave Ford definitely knows how to grab people's attention. The title alone will probably attract many readers, but word-of-mouth and positive buzz will really launch "Good Medicine, Great Sex!" I think it will go on to even greater popularity than his previous work, "Marijuana: Not Guilty As Charged" (which I thoroughly enjoyed). Mr. Ford has always been way ahead of his time. Young people throughout the world share his opinions on the medical benefits of cannabis and its harmlessness for social use. I certainly will never think about it the same way! The U.S. government has conditioned us to think of marijuana as a narcotic as deadly and dangerous as heroine and cocaine. It should look to Europe for guidance. In The Netherlands, government-grown marijuana may be purchased in pharmacies for maladies ranging from glaucoma to cancer to AIDS-related illnesses. Britain, Belgium and Luxembourg are in the process of passing similar laws. I hope the U.S. will one day follow suit.

Mr. Ford's books have finally allowed me to think about cannabis objectively. Anyone who still believes the myth that marijuana is a narcotic with no medical value must read "Good Medicine, Great Sex!"!

Remains (a story of the Flying Tigers)

Remembering the Forgotten Air Force
The China-Burma-India theatre is the least-documented theatre of WW2. Here's a novel based on history, which educates you about that theatre and period without your even realising it.

The background that Dan Ford creates is impeccably accurate in almost every aspect -- the history, the military background, the technical detail, and the social and sociological environment. The characters ring true; right down to the way the pilots respond to bonus agreements, and the ground crew to the cornucopia of materiel that the Americans seem to bring in their wake, when they go to war. Against that authentically-reproduced backdrop, Daniel Ford tells a tale of young men from different environments, mainly American, but also British, Indian, Japanese, and New Zealander, flying and fighting and making love. Read this book, and give a thought to all those real-life men, who lived the real-life stories on which it's based. They really were a great generation. And this book is one they themselves would probably have enjoyed.

Was that Pappy Boyington I saw?
In any novel that's based on real events, it's a huge temptation to look for real people amongst the fictional characters. I suspect that Dan Ford had the famous Pappy Boyington in mind when he dreamed up the character of "Uncle Wiggly"--the hard-drinking, two-fisted pilot who lamed his knees in a landing accident at Rangoon. Likewise the sweet-natured squadron leader has got to be based on Bob Neale, who as a civilian was the high-scoring American fighter pilot in the spring of 1942. It's great fun picking these characters out of a story that pounds along like a novel by Jack Higgins.

Definately a five-star book. Anyone whose read Dan Ford's excellent history of the Flying Tigers will want to have this novel in his collection also. And anyone who hasn't, will find it the best possible introduction to the men of the American Volunteer Group--not to mention a Japanese air force pilot and some of the English and Burmese girls who populated Rangoon in the last days of the British Empire.

Mark Hallet in Denver

A story of "faction" for fans of the Flying Tigers
Dan Ford wrote an excellent non-fiction account of the American Volunteer Group, so he knows his subject. In "Remains," he draws from the colorful personalities of several real members to create his fictional characters--young mercenary fighter pilots who experience events that really did happen in the desperate days before the fall of Rangoon. "Remains" has a far more earthy quality than you'll find in any non-fiction work, making it a believable and highly enjoyable read.

A wonderful journey into ADD
"Sparky's Excellent Misadventures" is a wonderful little "journal" by Sparky, who takes us into his life at school and home as he copes with ADD. Sparky's misadventures acquaint us with those events which sometimes get him into trouble. After visiting the doctor, Sparky learns about ADD and discovers how the "little pills" help him to do better in school and control his behavior. This "journal" will help children and parents understand ADD from a child's point-of-view both before and after treatment. An easy-to-read, humorous approach to appreciating each child's unique qualities.

8 year old loved it!
My son was recently diagnosed with ADHD and I wanted to get him some books so that he realized he wasn't one in the world with ADHD. He loved it. He has started writing a journal -- red pencil and all.

Just Wonderful For Everyone Involved With An ADD Child!!
I bought this book along with several others when my 8 year old son was diagnosed with ADD. Along with the ADD came depression and anxiety, due, of course, to a high IQ and stresses in school. I wanted to buy some books for children about ADD to donate to his classroom, to better help my son's peers understand why he acted "goofy" sometimes. This book is absolutely fabulous. I read it first, and I had to laugh. My son read it next and he laughed and laughed. He was delighted to see his own personal thoughts and feelings, expressed by another kid (Sparky), written about in a journal format. He was joyous!! He thought Sparky was awesome! He couldn't wait to bring it to school! I can promise you that your ADD child will be so happy to read this book, as will you. I even gained alot of knowledge and insight into my son's FEELINGS and thoughts! YOU NEED THIS BOOK!! You absolutely will not regret it!!

A World Beyond by Ruth Montgomery
I found this book when I was about 17 years old. It had just come out and there were not many books on the subject of reincarnation back then. I have now read many books of this kind. It is my opinion that A World Beyond gives the clearest and most accurate picture of the other side. Although Journey Of Souls by Michael Newton, is also excellent .. if you need to be "drawn a picture" .. A World Beyond, does just that. I highly recommend this book to anyone with an open mind and a desire to expand their beliefs.

awesome
Wow what a book. I came across it by accident, picked it up and started reading. I could not put it down. It is just how I have believed life after death to be. To actually read something that describes my thoughts. The purpose of our existance, it is a must to read.

A WORLD BEYOND
WOW! What a great book, couldn't put it down. I had heard of this book from my Grandmother when I was very young. Not until now (25) had I read this. This book helped to renite my inner feelings of life after death, I had been so busy as we all get and how wonderful to reawake myself. Not for the "good bible beater"... Well maybe. I hope everyone who has contact with this book is able to approach with an open heart. There is a wonderful message that awaits all of us. My love to you Ruth and Arthor.

Apache Pocket Reference

Good info, good price, ok binding.
For material that's mostly already online, this book is a good investment. I get really tired of window-switching references, and sometimes I like to sit away from the computer while I'm looking up stuff on directive syntax or whatever. For that, this book is worth the price.

I'd still like a more suitable binding for a small book with a font chosen for density. Lord, won't you make me said book so it will lay flat? That would make this dealie a five-star pick for me.

Never leaves my side
I, incredulously, bought this book not expecting to refer to it because I know everything ( ;-P ). I have found that it a most invaluable resource. If you know (and love) Apache, this is the synopsis you need sitting on the left hand side of your keyboard.

Perfect volume for the price.
A large system of configuration commands and syntax is a useful and powerful tool for allowing people to easily control complex pieces of computer software.

Large configuration files have one major problem; you tend not to look at them often enough to get the language and syntax down pat. You find yourself making too many tiny errors in command name or syntax and struggle with one window editing the file and one or more windows open displaying the documentation.

With Apache I have this problem in spades. The configuration system may be well designed and the syntax as easy as possible, but most people will still struggle to keep every detail in their head. I know what I need to do, have a fair idea how to do it, but the details elude me.

That's where this little volume comes in immensely handy. I have several of O'Reilly's pocket references and find the PHP, Apache and Perl ones never stray far from my computer. This one provides a wealth of reference information packed into a small, inexpensive little volume. It has enough information about the exact name and sytax of the Apache configuration directives that I don't need to go to a larger book or delve into the manual.

Oh, and for those that want this volume to lay flat. I ran my copy through a paper cutter and trimmed the spine off. After punching holes in the pages I then had a loose leaf version that allowed me to add my own pages of notes in various spots and lays perfectly flat. It only took a few minutes. Sorry, O'Reilly - but it is more useful if it can lay flat and being able to add notes is great.

Ford N Series Tractors (Originality Guide)

A must-have book for the Ford tractor collector/restorer
Although there may be a few minor details subject to scrutiny, this work meets an important need. Replete with color and B/W photos, the authors point out the differences between the various Ford N-models, and attempt to illustrate the important details to be considered when restoring these tractors. Paint details, variations in models and years, options, and anomalies are described in detail. As with many Motorbooks International publications, there is a tendancy to use oft-published photos, but this is not a major concern. A section on the popular Sherman auxiliary transmissions includes a table of various gear ratios and speed ranges. Original and aftermarket reproduction aprts are compared and the appendix includes a pretty thorough list of suppliers. While this book is not the final authority on the subject, it is by far the best thing yet to come out on this topic. Highly recommended.

correction/amendment to previous review
I previously stated that the pictures used in this edition were previously published. This statement is in error. The confusion arose because many tractors included have been seen in other works. The author assures me that these pictures are all new issues.

great book full of interesting info.
this was a great buy. it has great info about the models, specs, restoation, and even funk and sherman stuff.
