Afro-Bets do excellent job
This book was purchased for my 8 year old daughter as a Black History month present. She has read the entire book and has as enjoyed looking at the pictures. It held her attendtion and got her more interested in Africa--which made me extremely happy. The way the book was layed out allowed her to get a better understanding of what was going on. Using actual photographs with the cartoons really gave her a different approach to reading. She was allowed to see the actual events and dress of Africa in certain areas. That's what drew me to the book in the first place. If an individual is teaching or introducing a child to Africa, this is a good book to do so with.

Not every anthology should be a Leviathan
From the Ministry of Whimsy Press, publishers of the fantastic LEVIATHAN anthology series, comes this first in a new series: ALBUM ZUTIQUE. "A series," the back cover notes, "devoted to the surreal & decadent." Yes, yes, and so it is. But is it good? You bet. The fifteen stories contained herein are all beautifully written, truly a feast for the eyes and the mind. There were a couple stories that I'm not quite sure I got, and a couple more that I'm quite sure I didn't get, but even the few that went right over my head in terms of content were so beautifully written that I almost didn't mind. Standouts are the pair of stories by the always fantastic Rhys Hughes, and the hauntingly beautiful entry by K.J. Bishop. But there wasn't a dud in the bunch; not a one I didn't enjoy reading. So why only four stars? Two reasons. First, as I noted, there were a couple stories that I didn't get. Second, and more importantly, while this is a beautiful, beautifully produced volume, the cover price is a little steep considering the 200-page, 50k word size of the volume. Even so, ALBUM ZUTIQUE #1 is a welcome and more-than-worthy addition to my bookshelf.

Next up: ALBUM ZUTIQUE #2, which will be Rhys Hughes' A NEW HISTORY OF INFAMY. I, for one, can't wait!

The Anatomy & Development of the Formula Ford Race Car
Formula Fords were the starting class for a lot of famous race car drivers including Michael Andretti. This book covers Formula Ford from 1968 to 1992. Not much as changed on Formula Ford (except Formula Ford 2000 cars have front and rear wings) and yes there is still Formula Fords racing in SCCA competition. Been there, done that!

An excellent introduction to Ford
I bought this as an introduction to Arthur Ford, and it serves that purpose admirably. It is a shortish volume published by the Spiritual Frontiers Fellowship, which Ford was instrumental in founding. It is, therefore, solidly pro-Ford -- but it doesn't ignore his personal flaws or the controversies surrounding his mediumship. It consists of passages from Ford's own writings as well as the writings of his closest associates. One particularly interesting part concerns an auto wreck in which Ford's sister and a friend were killed and he was left in a coma. Writing 25 years before anyone had heard the term "Near Death Experience," he described a classic NDE. In case you aren't familiar with Ford, he had nearly a 50-year career. Two of his main claims to fame were solving the riddle of the message Houdini had left for his wife ("Rosabelle, believe") and putting Bishop Pike in touch with his late son. I previously hadn't taken Ford seriously due to the controversy surrounding the Houdini episode and some of the other anti-Ford propaganda, but this book led me to do additional digging. Ford clearly seems to have had a great deal of genuine mediumistic ability (whatever that may be). He was also a complex individual who would make an interesting study even if he had been a complete fraud. I would recommend this as an excellent introduction to Ford (or a good summing up as to what he was all about, if you are already familiar with him).

Ford & Topp 68000 Assembly Language
Ford and Topps work is well structured, organised and clear. For
students and professional engineers wishing to master Motorola's
68000 and its siblings' assembly language this is an excellent text. The sections abound with examples and in pointing out how the orthogonal architecture of this processor and its rich addressing modes ease I/O programming as also for data structures.. linked lists, decision trees and so forth. The weakness if any is in the programming of the more sophisticated the second generation interface graphic, memory management chips which work in the asynchronous mode as also some discussion on the assembler vs high level block structured languages like C or C++. I hope to see this corrected in future editions.

A Participant
First, I am biased. I worked with Ms Jurey in the "White House basement" and on presidential trips as one of her VOA radio broadcast engineers for more than seven years during the Ford, Carter and Reagan administrations.

Having said that and because I was personally involved, I found her book to be very interesting. I can attest to its historical accuracy.

Ms Jurey's wrote her VOA radio reports in a style that any world-wide short-wave radio listener could understand. This book is written in the same style.

I recommend it to journalism students, particularly students who intend to go into Radio-TV journalism.

Corrick's Ford a forgotton battle
In W. Hunter Lesser's book called The Battle of Corrick's Ford is a breif summery of the events that followed from the Confederate retreat from Rich Mountain (west) Virginia of July of 1861. This is the story of out numbered Confederate soldiers in the First Campaign of the Civil War and the diaster that led to the event of General Robert Garnett's death giving him the honor to be the first of many General officers to be killed on the field of battle on either side.

The Journey Home:A Kryon Parable:The Story of Michael Thomas
I have read quite a number of books on inspiration, motivation and those claiming to answer all the doubts of human mind. The thing lacking in most books is they assume a lot about the reader. The degree of doubt is high in such books. Questions like, Why I am not getting the passion? why that excercise is not working?, Is something wrong with me? keep arising all the time. And in the end you end up in a deeper mess than you were before. It does'nt work for most of us I feel. The good part about Micheal Thomas is that his story starts bang into the kind of mess most of us are, bored with life, living but with no excitement, always realizing the futility of everything. The satisfaction that I used to get in little things before is not there even for bigger things. That is exactly Michael Thomas is feeling when the book starts. And as he transforms as and when he gets his answers and as a result I too transform. Most of the time I wish I was Micheal Thomas so remarkable is the identification with him. The book is not a how-to guide to all your troubles, a panacea, but more of self analysis. If you are filled with questions nobody is able to answer grab this book and read it in peace and silence, you may be amazed with the end result.

Wonderful
I just picked up a used copy of this yesterday and read it last night. It contains three stories that take place in Liavek, the backdrop for a series edited by Emma Bull and Will Shetterly in the 1980s. One of the three stories already appeared in the series, but the other two are new. I was thrilled to find new Liavek material, and enjoyed it very much. The stories are engrossing and go in directions you would not expect. Wonderful! I only wish I'd found this years ago.
