Excellent automobile reference.
I beleive that anyone looking for an automobile that could have been made in the US, will find it in this book. Very well written and informative.

The Best Source for Researching American Automobile History!
The Author's of this book have done a fantastic job of researching and documenting the early history of the American automobile. I have found this book to be an invaluable reference in researching the history of the automobile stock and bond certificates which I collect.

Even the most obscure and low-key manufacturer is covered. This book is well worth it's price and my only criticism would be...if all other readers used it as much as I do...please publish the next edition in hardcover!!

CD rom
Does anyone know if this book is available as a cd rom

An indispensable tool for collector car enthusiasts.
The Standard Catalog of American Cars is the best source for in-depth information on all makes of American cars. In addition to thousands of photos, the catalog includes specs, serial numbers, production totals, and current values on a 1 to 6 scale. Specs include original prices, weight, options, engines, overall length, wheelbase lenth, locations of factories, and much more. It's a great first source for anyone that's thinking of buying an older American car. It arms the potential buyer with enough information to have an intelligent conversation with anyone selling classic cars. With the information in this book, I've talked to sellers and knew more about their car than they did. As an old car collector and hobbyist, I've found it to be an indispensable tool. The only criticism I have is that I wish it had more photos in general, especially color.

Studebaker: The Life and Death of an American Corporation (Midwestern History and Culture)
Published in Hardcover by Indiana University Press (January, 1997)
Author: Donald T. Critchlow
Amazon base price: $39.95
Used price: $27.97
Average review score:

All but forgotten
My dad was a Studebaker dealer and I grew up reading everything I could about the company. Following them through the early to mid fifties was agony. This is a very detailed description of their rise, near demise, and eventual failure. Excellent history and nostalgia. Actually a bit sad but I could not put it down.

Great Book
Explores the nature of the company rather than just the products. The insights are revealing and the style is engaging. The lessons from this study can be applied to the success and failures of the other American automotive manufacturers. It is valuable for both the automotive enthusiast as well as the student of management and business.

Any stat you're looking for!
This book is a must have for any Nascar fan, particularly if you're a number nut like me. The top 50 in points for every season since '49, race winners also since '49 and every spot in every race since '72. That's just for starters. Too much to write here. Great book, I'll be ordering the '00 edition as well.

A must-have book for any NASCAR fan
The Unauthorized NASCAR Fan Guide '99 is a great resource for any NASCAR fan. This book contains enough information and statistics to keep even the die-hard fans happy. The history of NASCAR is separated into logical periods, and it's a real joy to read about how the crowds grew, corporate America joined, and the drivers slowly turned from moonshine runners to product spokesmen.

If you're a long-time fan, this book will provide you with more than enough information to challenge anyone to a NASCAR trivia bet. If you're a new fan of stock car racing, chapter 21, How to Watch a NASCAR Race, will be well worth the price of the book.

The Unauthorized NASCAR Fan Guide '99 is a must-have book for any NASCAR fan. For less than twenty bucks, this book should be on every fan's bookshelf.

Vintage International Harvester Tractors
Published in Hardcover by Voyageur Press (August, 1997)
Author: Ralph W. Sanders
Amazon base price: $29.95
Average review score:

One of the best books for the history of the Farmall line!
Ralph Sanders does an excellent job of explaining the history of the Farmall from the invention of the reaper all the way to the Tenneco buyout of International Harvester. Excellent pictures, useful and historical text, and wonderful explainations of every tractor pictured. Pictured tractors have some of the best restorations that I have ever seen! A great book for anyone interested in the history of the Farmall line of tractors and International Harvester Company.

Excellent historic details and pictures of IHC tractors
This is the best book I've seen on the subject of International tractors. It has a good amount of detail of the history of the various companies and an excellent mix of old and new photos.

Volkswagen Bug: The People's Car (Autobahn Road Series, Vol. 1)
Published in Hardcover by Evergreen Pr (April, 1988)
Author: Ray Miller
Amazon base price: $54.95
Used price: $40.00
Average review score:

A good read!
Although the basic shape of the Volkswagen didn't change over the years, many detail changes were made. This book does a good job of documenting them. There isn't much text, but the book if full of detail photos showing the small (and sometimes not-so-small) changes from year to year. If you're restoring your Volkswagen to 100% stock condition, you want to know how to tell a '65 Beetle from a '66, or you just like Volkswagens, this book is a good read.

Great Book
This is a great book for noting the year-to-year changes in the Bug. Almost every change is photographed and documented so that you can see it. There isn't much in the way of writing, but mainly pictures and explanations of the VW's and the yearly changes, including the various dealer installed options. This is a great book, especialy for identifying what is original or how something is supposed to look.

Volkswagen: Then, Now, and Forever
Published in Hardcover by Beeman Jorgensen (January, 1997)
Authors: Terry Shuler and Terry Schuler
Amazon base price: $20.97
List price: $29.95 (that's 30% off!)
Used price: $9.99
Collectible price: $14.82
Average review score:

An excellent book on the history of the original Beetle.
Terry Shuler's "Volkswagen Then, Now and Forever" is a comprehensive look at the original Beetle. In addition to its history, there are chapters devoted to and written by key people from those involved in testing the original prototypes to advertising. Of course, detailed information is provided about Porsche, Hitler and their vision and developement of the "people's car." Chapters on the car itself are broken down by year. Many pictures including those of sales literature, manuals and variations of the cars. Also includes history of the Bus, Karmann Ghia and others. If you're only going to buy one book on Volkswagen's history, this should be it.

This book is very informative and entertaining.
Shuler is a great author who includes great stories and a ton of really early VW history pictures and even lots of color photos. This book is a must for anyone who owns any year of VW or who is just interested in the marque. I have read many VW books and this by far exeeds them all. One can see what vast amounts of in depth research Shuler must have undertaken in order to produce a book of such high quality and originallity. I definetly recomend this book.

Excellent book from start to finish
As a recent newcomer to welding, I have discovered this book has taught me a lot of valuable information about the various techniques of the art of welding. The information supplied is well thought out and, combined with useful charts, facts and figures, this book is good enough for the would-be professional and home welder (or weldor!). Read the book to understand.

Authors: David Fetherston and David Featherston
Amazon base price: $21.95
Used price: $12.99
Collectible price: $12.71

David Feartherston's Woodys
This is a great book for anyone who loves cars made with wood. It covers everything from the earliest Pre-World War One cars to Ninties vehicles with fake trim; from beautifully restored originals to hot rods and even custom-built one-offs; and not just wagons, but sedans and convertibles, too. If you want to know how to build or restore a Woody, this is not the book to by (although it's great for inspiration), but if you just want to enjoy looking at these beautiful cars, and finding out more about them, it's a definate must-buy.

Woodys
If you enjoy looking at vintage woody automobiles this is the book to read. There is even a 1951 Chevy wagon that has painted wood that is so good you can't tell the difference between the real thing.

If you love cars, buy this book!
