The Haynes General Motors Automatic Transmission Overhaul Manual (Techbook Series)

Haynes GM AutomAtic Transmission Overhaul Manual
This book is excellently written To be an invaluable to to anyone interested in rebuilding a General Motors automatic transmission. It gives a good theoretical base to start from, describes the needed tools, and give excellent step by step instructions.

The only negative thing that I can say about this manual is that it only covers four models. Covered are the TH 200-4R, TH 700-R4 TH 350,and the TH 400. Also, only the mechanical versions of the four speed transmissions are covered.

Since these are probably the most common models, these limitations don't really decrease the value of this book. Definatly a must have addition to any true Motor Head's book collection.

Heavy Equipment Repair

Explains universal mechanical principles to the layman.
I read this book 25 years ago when I was a fledgling truck mechanic, and I found it to be a comprehensive, useful guide to all things mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, etc. It is a must for someone wanting to have a basic understanding of these principles, and how to apply them to cars, trucks, tractors, welders, air compressors, pumps, etc. Separate chapters on Disassembly and Assembly, discussing methods of work; a chapter on The Inclined Plane, and relating this principle to ramps, screw threads, gears and leverage, and the angle of a bulldozers blade; a chapter on Lubrication, with a cartoon drawing of an old neglected bulldozer sitting in the field, covered with cobwebs and dust, a cat resting on the hood, and the caption, "bearings are probably rusting." This book should be in every mechanics library.

Great introduction to heavy-duty truck systems
This book, along with Ian Andrew Norman's book, gives a fantastic introduction to the world of heavy-duty trucks. If you are diesel technician student, or a journeyman mechanic, this book is definitely for you.

The History of Baltimore's Streetcars
Published in Hardcover by Greenberg Pub (October, 1992)
Author: Michael R. Farrell
Amazon base price: $45.95
Average review score:

Comprehensive, yet easy and enjoyable to read
Written in an easy-to-read style, this history of Baltimore's streetcars covers the entire period of operations from City Passenger in 1859 through close of operations in 1963. The book is an update of the original _Who Made All Our Streetcars Go_, including new material on Baltimore's current light rail system. The book also includes a series of vignettes about streetcars, which bring life to the history portion. In addition, there are hundreds of photographs, illustrations and maps.

This book reads more like a story than a history book, and I enjoyed it very much because of the accessible writing style, the subject matter and the photographs. Anyone interested in streetcars or old-time Baltimore should find this book fascinating.

Fantastic repair manual!!
It was the first time I saw a "Haynes Service and Repair manual", and I was suprised with the contents (technical information, photos and pictures).
I hope that this quality continues with the recent manuals for the new models.

Absolutely Essential!
Hot rodding and custom cars were coming of age in the early '50s, and for a few short years beginning in 1951, Hop Up magazine (sister magazine to Road & Track in the early days) was the first and probably best of the little, pocket-sized hot rod magazines. Original issues are highly sought after and tough to find.

This volume (a 6x9 book that's thick as a brick) contains every page of every issue of the first year of Hop Up magazine, and the material -- car features, how-tos, and even ads -- is pure gold. Wanna know what it was like in the '50s? This is the real deal. If you're into hot rods or customs of any kind, this book is essential reading, and Mark Morton deserves our thanks for making it happen....

Who is the Right Author?
My name is Carlton Jackson and I am the author of "Hounds of the Road," published in the early 80s by Popular Press of Bowling Green State University in Ohio, and Kendall/Hunt in Iowa. I have no idea whatever of why this book is being listed as authored by "Pat J.BGU." When the book was first published Kendall/Hunt listed it as R. Browne (who was at that time the director of Popular Press). I thought I had corrected the problem. The book deals with the Greyhound bus company, and I am presently writing a new introduction and a new final chapter for a revised edition of this book. It will be out in early January 2000l. For anyone out there wondering about this matter, I am Carlton Jackson of Western KY University, and I AM THE AUTHOR of Hounds of the Road. I will now take steps to get this matter cleared up. Cheers, Carlton Jackson
